I could be wrong, but I think Strauss, Atherton and Hussein all had fairly poor county records relative to others, yet had the tools to be good test players. I just think there is something about Pettini that means he would thrive in a test arena. Shah fills me with zero confidence, as does Bopara. I'd give Key another shot before either of them.

Broad is a better batsman than Flintoff. Shame he can't bowl though. Broad at 7, Flintoff at 8. Bring back Prior to bat at 6 and keep wicket. Bring in Mark Pettini from Essex instead of Vaughan.

I'm currently very much liking John Connolly. Halfway through the Reapers at the moment and am loving it. Thoroughly recommend his work. Also two of the books are accompanied by a CD of themed music. The second CD "Into the Dark II" is terrific, especially if you like your music depressing and dark.

I'm not so sure. The money swilling about in India these days is incredible, and when you think of how many people live there and how big cricket is over there, the potential is limitless. I think the competitor league and the Allan Stanford stuff is likely to fall by the wayside in a couple of years, but i can see the IPL thing staying strong. I think there is another season in October or something? I just worry about the impact it will have on test match cricket. England will have to allow their players to compete next season, which means you cant really organise a test series whilst it's on.

Anyone been watching the IPL stuff on Setanta? Some brilliant stuff, including Gilchrist's 100 yesterday. Big crowds too. This is going to be absolutely huge in a couple of years time. Will it end test match cricket though, with players choosing to snub their country and long tours to who knows where to earn 250K a time playing a couple of weeks in India?

Wug, I do indeed have trust issues when it comes to people's gambling boasts. As I said, when these people are asked to proof their bets to back up their claims - they always have their "rare" losing week/month. It's just liar central.

Absolutely. Taking out the "jinx" possibility () it is amazing how many people's winning streaks come to a mysterious end the minute they actually start posting their picks. I don't believe anyone here can genuinely make a living out of gambling, unless they either have insider horse/dog knowledge or are a professional poker player.
