  1. I'm currently liking Michael Marshall. Read The Straw Men and The Intruders, and halfway through The Lonely Dead. If you like John Connelly's books, you will like Marshall.
  2. Spookily enough that's exactly the one I did. By the shoogly bridge I take it you mean the wire tightrope thing to get to the waterfall? Weather was incredible for this time of year. Got a few cracking snaps in the sunshine. Stayed in a great little chalet thing near Banavie that was terrific value if anyone is heading out that way for the weekend.
  3. Take a few Prozac before you go, and avoid sharp implements for a couple of hours after
  4. The Boy With The Striped Pyjamas 9/10. Fantastic film, which everyone should go and see. Won't spoil it by ruining the plot, but set around the family of a German concentration camp commandant in the Second World War. Was the weirdest aftermath to any film I've been to see. After it finished no one in the audience moved during the credits rolling for well over a minute.
  5. I'm going to Fort William for the weekend. Can anyone suggest a good walk for Saturday?
  6. Yes, I agree. I thought it could have been better.
  7. It was a surprise hit with me. I was bought it as a present and ran out of things in the house to read. Some of the places in it I have been to, and others I now want to.
  8. Just finished the excellent "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. A Dracula book with a twist, which is as much travelogue of the Carpathians as anything else. Very well written, and is surprisingly a debut. 8.5/10.
  9. Disappointing, but predictable. Bogdanovic is a total loser. Pisspoor effort from Murray and Hutchins in the doubles. Jamie Murray isn't half the player he seems to think he is. Comedy quotes from Murray about the rest of the team though. This from the guy who invented a fake injury because he wanted to blouse out of a trip to Argentina earlier in the year.
  10. Davis Cup a bit overshadowed by the Ryder Cup for obvious reasons! Jamie Murray and Hutchins in the doubles today. Good move by Lloyd I think. The other Murray will win his singles tomorrow and Bogdanovic is total wankpiss so this game is really the decider.
  11. Never a truer word said. I thought tennis clubs were bad but they have nothing on golf.
  12. Apply for a season ticket at Grangemouth, but do it now for next season as there is usually a waiting list. £200 quid, play as often as you like apart from Saturdays. Means you can't get a handicap or play in medals, but that shouldnt be a problem first year you are learning.
  13. C.I.T.R. is possibly my favourite book.
  14. Spookily enough, I just finished that today. I thought the story itself was interesting, but it was very poorly written. There is quite an interesting website created by the prosecutor in the case. http://www.billpetersondistrictattorney.com/ Worth a read if the story interested you.
  15. Yes, and you are totally wrong, as has been pointed out. Your basic failing is confusing belief in your own ability with arrogance, when they are two completley different things.
  16. Guy on 5 Live also told a story about Nadal at Wimbledon. Nadal had rented the house next to his neighbour for the 2 weeks, and his neighbour's kids wanted to go round for an autograph. Guy eventually agreed, and when they did Tony Nadal answered the door, said Rafa was in the shower , but if they came back later it would be no problem. Kids went back an hour later and Nadal sat and chatted with them about tennis for 45 minutes, gave them signed t shirts and stuff, all the day before a match. Said he was a diamond and very softly spoken and humble. Nice guys do win!
  17. I've heard that too. Apparently Ernie Els is a total gent too. Read an interview with him and the guy doing it said Els invited him to his house for dinner that night with his family and a round of golf at Wentworth too. Interviewer said he's been around professional sport for 20 years and never met a more down to earth guy than Els.
  18. Really. And are they "the best"? Do you know Tiger Woods and Rafael Nadal or some no mark golfers on the EuroPro Tour carrying their own clubs?
  19. Only when not removing his shorts from his arse crack Exactly, and belief in their own ability, which is absolutely not the same as arrogance.
  20. Explain. What exactly does Nadal do on court that is in any way arrogant other than err, win an awful lot? Is it the arrogant way that he organises his water bottles on the changeovers you are referring to?
  21. Err, no you don't. There is nothing cocky about either Nadal or Federer on court. Nadal is also universally regarded as being incredibly humble and nice off court. I have seen nothing arrogant about him on court.
  22. Lleyton Hewitt was an excellent player. You don't win multiple Grand Slams by being "not very good", no matter how hard you work. I didn't like his on court persona, including big "Cumonnns" when his opponent misses, which is poor tennis ettiquette, and one of the reasons he was much despised in the game. Not as much as Marcelo Rios mind you, who every year won the players vote for "Most Hated Player". Not sure who currently holds this title. Nonsense. Sport is no different to anything else. You get a complete mix of personalities, from the very humble to the arrogant b*****ds. It is a complete myth that you have to be an arsehole to succeed.
  23. Individual sport. He's competing for himself, pure and simple. I prefer Federer and Nadal as players. If he was playing Hewitt I'd have supported Murray. If and when he next bothers his arse to play Davis Cup for GBR I will support him in that.
  24. Yes, some w****r made this same point in this phone in. Even when Wright of all people corrected him about it, and said Murray's remarks were totally taken out of context he reverted to plan B which was "err, the Scots hate us, so why should we support one of them".
  25. Heard an embarrassing phone in on the way home from work yesterday on Talk Sport, where idiot Scottish people queued up to embarrass themselves by trotting out the old paranoid lie about "When he wins he is British, and when he loses he is Scottish". Dear oh dear.
