  1. Was going to say it sounded like your IT band (tendon in thigh). The best thing for me was the foam roller exercises (excruciating but works)
  2. Was it a GP you saw? If you have a IT band issue the worst thing you can do is go cycling - I would suggest a visiting a specialist sports physio
  3. I ticked the box to say "no thanks" to a fleece for a race I've never run
  4. Another rejection for London that's 8 years on the trot
  5. https://www.entrycentral.com/event/103880 30th October but full with a wait list
  6. Looks like Airdrie Harriers are your best bet. http://www.airdrieharriers.com/ Motherwell Athletic Club meet at Strathclyde Park (http://www.motherwellac.com/) and Hamilton Harriers are Uddingston/Bothwell way (http://www.hamiltonharriers.co.uk/) are the other two probably nearest you in Lanarkshire. Shettleston is also an option http://shettlestonharriers.org.uk/ List of other clubs at the scottish running guide link below http://scottishrunningguide.com/area-focus/
  7. Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromso? http://www.msm.no/
  8. Week to go to the Glasgow Clyde Marathon - Well into tapering and I hate it - 50 min run tomorrow and 40 mins on Thursday (although I am enjoying the lie ins)
  9. Interval training is the best way to get quicker. I would also recommend hal higdons training programmes - I managed to get down to an 88minute half marathon and 38 minute 10k about 4 years ago http://www.halhigdon.com/ Plenty of options depending on your current fitness level
  10. I had a similar problem a few years back - it was my piriformis - fairly common runner injury The piriformis muscle: Starts at the lower spine and connects to the upper surface of each femur (thighbone) Functions to assist in rotating the hip and turning the leg and foot outward Runs diagonally, with the sciatic nerve running vertically directly beneath it (although in some people the nerve can run through the muscle). I rested - the pain went away - trained then pain (and limping) came back immediately. I saw the physio and he gave me a deep tissue massage and a couple of stretches. I was ok to train on it and with the stretching I was right as rain after a couple of weeks. I still include these stretches as part of my warm down. Paul-r-cfc is on the money it wont go away after a visit to the physio but they should be able to give you the advice to get it sorted - if at all possible try to get a specialist sports physio.
  11. Has anyone else signed up for this? https://www.entrycentral.com/clydemarathon I feel that I may have rushed my decision
  12. Booked the Jurys Inn Gateshead - pricey but the missus is coming with me so I couldnt go for the basic. ETA - apparently getting back into Newcastle afterwards is a nightmare
  13. Got into the GNR through the ballot - well chuffed! Any recommendations for accomodation?
  14. For the Carpets I would start with the Life album best overall album and the rest is probably picking up singles Saturn 5, Dragging me Down, I want you (version with Mark E Smith), Caravan and the Island Head EP. Charlatans - up to our hips is my favourite as well although some friendly is a close second. The charlatans suffered a little by going on too long. On the topic in general - the Roses and Mondays are streets ahead of the other two. I was never a huge Mondays fan at the time and I was onyl really into Pills n Thrills. It was only as I got older that I appreciated that Bummed is far superior. Was never into James saw them at come back gig a few back at the academy and I was reminded how much I disliked Tim Booth.
  15. I have applied 5 years in a row and hee haw so far. Think Thundermonkey has had about 10 attempts without getting in.
  16. London marathon fail letter again! Gutted!
  17. After a few set backs I have maanged out for my first run in ages. Just a 5k this morning and I wont get out again until the end of the week but really glad to get out. Hopefully this is the start of the long road back to the GSR in October.
  18. We've been really lucky. Both of our babies have slept through from about 5-8 weeks. Was certainly harder the second time as we worried more about the older one being disturbed. Would recommend this book - basically common sense but helps you spot the signs of when the little one is ready to sleep a "core" night it also has some tips if sleep problems develop http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sleep-easy-way-peaceful-nights/dp/1844037053/ref=sr_1_32?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1398242204&sr=1-32&keywords=sleep
  19. Got to be quick! Dont think it will make much difference as I doubt I'll get a ballot place.
  20. 2015 London Marathon ballot now open. http://www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com/
  21. Back into today after a poor 5-6 weeks where I only managed about 4/5 runs including nothing inthe last 4 weeks. Managed to cover 6k this mornign but it was a slog and slow. I'll ease into with a speed session tomorrow, rest day on Sat and a long"ish" run on Sun. Before my enforced rest period - I was starting to feel good again and my times were starting to fall so feeling disappointed that it feels like I am starting from stratch again.
  22. i like the sound of that. Let us know how you get on
  23. I used the treadmill for this in the past. Try running pyramids upping the pace every 2.30 mins up to a peak then start bring it down by the same amount e.g. 2.30mins at 12km/h, 12.5, 13, 13.5, 14, 13.5, 13, 12.5 or whatever pace you can manage (you can vary of each step as well) I find it easier to push myself harder doing this knowing that I will only have a short time at the and it is amazing when you are coming back down the speeds how much easier it feels than on the way up.
