  1. On the treadmill this morning as the forecast was for heavy rain. Don't think it rained the whole time I was in the gym.
  2. There is a great article in this months runners world for those looking to take up running and for those just starting out. Cant find it online at the moment but it gives tips, advice and programmes for 5 stages of fitness from those who do nothing to those who are looking to introduce some speedwork. If you are thinking of starting out I would say it would be £4.50 well spent (or wait til next month when it should be available online) I managed a 6km run this morning and was fine despite the wind and rain until the half way turning point when I realised I had been running with a strong tail wind. Also a bus soaked me by veering into a puddle at the side of the road.
  3. Did my first long slow run of the year yesterday ran for an hour and 5 minutes (longer than I had intended as I have a diversion because of some flooding) and covered 13.25kms. Pretty pleased with this as it is the furthest I have run in at least six months. I have taken a rest day today as it is my first day back at work so I'll be back out tomorrow morning if I can drag myself out of bed. Planning the following Tuesday - easy run (5 to 7 km) Wednesday - Intervals 4-5 x 400m Thursday - easy run (5 to 7 km) Friday - Hill repeats 4 x 300m Saturday - rest Sunday - long slow run 60 to 70 minutes
  4. It was like running through treacle this morning!
  5. I went over on my ankle this morning. Managed to recover but I was clearly compensating as my calf of the other side cramped up. Would have been better staying in bed!
  6. the incline on treadmills needs to be set between 1 and 2 to simulate running outdoors - you might want to up the incline
  7. Tell me about it. I'm trying to get back into after fannying about most of the year. The difference between my pace and stamina this time last year compared to just now are unbelievable
  8. Last 2 mornings have been bitter - running tights have been used for the first time this autumn/winter - brrrrrr! I have to say I love running in this kind of weather!
  9. Cheers I will give it a go - not on this particular run as I am serving it to others but the next time its just the wife and I.
  10. So you add the dr Pepper in addition to the BBQ sauce, I thought you would make a bbq sauce with the dr pepper. do you not end up with hundreds of liquid?
  11. I am going to try the the dr Pepper method this weekend. did you just replace the bbq with a tin of the stuff or did you add anyhting else in (was thinking a mix of onion, tomato and chiplotle paste?)
  12. Rather belated from me but we had a wee girl, Hannah, on the 26th September. She is lovely
  13. yes - see website - register and print off barcode and just turn up http://www.parkrun.org.uk/
  14. I agree with the gloves being the most important winter running gear even then I sometimes lose the feelign in my fingers. I usually wear a woolly hat if it is really cold and stick it in my pocket after I heat up. I also own 2 pairs of running tights which I wear under shorts (these are really good) and a couple of compression tops which I use as an extra layer. The best advice is to layer up when running in cold weather - you can always take an extra top off and tie it round your waist.
  15. If anyone fancies it Asics/Runners world are running the Target 26.2 again. Entry into the Paris Marathon plus training from some top coaches http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/target262/
  16. Should start to feel it looser in a couple of days. The first time I hurt my IT band I left it for weeks and it took weeks to stretch out again.
  17. Foam Roller is the what you need. I posted a link to some exercises previously on this thread I'll dig it out for you. I had this problem and now can feel it coming on so deal with it before it becomes an issue. ETA - http://www.pieandbovril.com/forum/index.php/topic/75234-pb-running-club/?p=6348094
  18. I am making a pumpkin lentil and chicken curry for tomorrow. Will report back with recipe if it's any good.
  19. I went out for my first run in months at lunch time yesterday. God it hurt - I keep reminding myself that the first run back is always the hardest. I cant believe how much my fitness has slipped over this last year without any events targetted my training lost focus and eventually just stopped. Potential Targets for next year - Embra Marathon - Mighty deerstalker - this looks really good http://www.ratracemanvsmountain.com/ Never done an adventure race and the man vs mountain looks the baws
  20. I tried a indian spiced pulled lamb basically a variation on the pulled pork. Made up a little curry saucve to go with it and the results were fantastic.
  21. Some tips for measuring your maximum heart rate http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/general/heart-rate-training-find-your-maximum-heart-rate/181.html You can improve your max heart rate and it should be used a guide if you are using a hearty rate monitor for your interval training.
  22. This how I started as well - I would recommend this to anyone looking to start. I think there may be a free app as well if you are into such things
  23. Brilliant time Kenzie. I did this 2 years ago now and loved apart from the last 2 miles, the hill at Dores didn't bother me so much as I knew it was coming. I managed a 3 hr 30 so very impressed with time. I got another KB from London. Thinking about the deerstalker down in Peebles and looking for a marathon in 2014 maybe Edinburgh but not sure. Defoe back to the GSR next year
  24. micropore over the nips is my prefered option
