  1. Good for age qualifying times for London. I am hoping to get near this but will probably have to wait until I hit 40. http://www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com/marathon-centre/enter-virgin-london-marathon/good-for-age-entries/
  2. great day for a run yesterday - cold but bright and sunny! Loved it
  3. After the GNR rejection and the moray marathon being canned - I am considering this http://highlandperthshiremarathon.co.uk/our-event/routes-map Anyone done it before?
  4. Whatever GPS watch you go for it is a fantastic training tool - would recommend them to anyone
  5. Cheers I knew that but I refuse to run for any of the big charities.
  6. Congratulations. I got an unsuccessful and my back up plan of the Moray marathon looks to be kaput as well as it's been cancelled. I have absolutely rotten luck on ballots failed about 6 times on the London marathon as well. Absolutely miserable this morning when I went out for my run but it did give me a chance to try out my new jacket!
  7. I might take a couple of times (over a few days) but you should start to feel it loosen gradually. The first time it happened to me it took over a fortnight to lossen it off but I had left it a month before going to the physio and was limping really heavily. To begin with I didnt think it would ever get better but slowly it start to loosen off - initially only after I used the foam roller. I am actually feeling my left IT band tight after a hard hilly 4 mile run this morning.
  8. The physion told me that a tight IT band it will just keep coming back unless you find a way to stretched it. I cant recommend the use of the foam roller enough - I know recognise when it is coming on and can stop it becoming an issue. I was also told that there was no reason why I couldnt keep running on it (it hurt like hell but I wasnt actually doing myself any damage).
  9. Foam Roller! I posted earlier in this thread with a youtube clip I will try and dig it out ETA http://www.pieandbovril.com/forum/index.php/topic/75234-pb-running-club/page-82#entry6348094
  10. 6x400m hill repeats this morning. Fucking horrible! That is all
  11. Just turn up and run. you get a token with your position number when you finish which is scanned at the same time as your barcode. This is then match up to the timing device at the finish. Usually get a text or email about lunchtime depending on how busy the run is.
  12. I made the mistake of taking out jelly beans instead of jelly babies once. They glued my mouth toghether
  13. Qaulity session for me this morning. 5x 400m hill repeats. Pretty consistent with my times on the up leg 1.24, 1.29, 1.30, 1.30, 1.30. Ideal morning for it cold and no breeze
  14. I was unaware of the season ticket thing that is very interesting. I know there are places reserved for local clubs etc but this in news to me . I dont want to run for one of the big charities rather get a balot place and rasie some money for a smaller charity edit to add too pricey for me - I have other options if I dont get a ballot place http://www.greatrun.org/Events/Information.aspx?ctid=472&id=1
  15. It's a ballot - no guarantee of entry. I've applied for the London marathon about 6 times now and not had a sniff
  16. gym day today - core and upper body - my arms feels like they are going to fall off
  17. Good timing for the half marathon. I did the Great Scottish Run 4/5 weeks before I did the loch ness marathon in 2011 - a great idea to test your pacing before the big one I really need an event to keep my focus up - as soon as I sign up for soemthing I know I will keep going even on the coldest and wettest days. I think it is because I'm a bit tight and cant bear the thought of losing money. I think I am going to sign up for the great edinburgh run, I have applied for the ballot for the great north run (if I dont get in I might try the Moray Marathon) and I will hopefully manage the Great Scottish Run this year. GREAT!
  18. The route is pretty hilly and the rule of thumb is that you should give yourself 2 weeks recovery after a marathon. If you treat as an "easy" training run you should manage ok but I think it might be a risk if you try to race it especially if you have events planned later in the year
  19. I havent run a 10 mile race before so instant PB for me. I think it looks a good course in terms of ticking off the touristy bits unlike the EMF which looks utter jobby
  20. Anyone else thinking about this http://www.greatrun.org/Events/event.aspx?id=3
  21. This is really important and one of the best things about running. You are competing against yourself and set your targets according to what you can achieve
  22. To be honest everytime I have been fitted for shoes (3 times - didnt like the brooks I was recommended) I have bought that pair - every subsequent pair has been purchased online.
  23. The other thing to do is get fitted for shoes at a specialist shop and then look for them cheaper on line. I go for ascis 1100 range and usually pick up the last years version for £50 to £70 online. I have 3 pairs at the moment - one pair just about done, one pair broken in and a 3rd pair still in the box.
  24. I know when I do a long run sometimes my form begins to suffer towards the end and I get a pain across my back and shoulders. Might be something like this Nice morning for a run cold but not frosty - easy 6.5kms was a nice way to start the day
