It's far too easy to blame referees and I reckon  players will make far more mistakes per game than the man in the middle,  if players stopped cheating non stop ( let's be honest football must be the only sport that you're a cheat from your first kick of a ball  ) then it would make a ref's job that whole lot easier   .

Whether It's stealing 5 yards with a throw in, taking a corner an inch outside the D   , surrounding ref's in packs trying to get guys sent off , diving and feigning injury or any other form of cheating it all makes the ref's job all the harder , if players improved their conduct then ref's would at least have half a chance and instead they're on the proverbial hiding to nothing.

Its too easy to slate ref's and they've got a really horrendous job and I don't think the standard is any worse than before,  quite often fans are blinkered and use the ref to deflect their own teams inadequacies,  if the same fans took in a game as a neutral with impartial viewing then they would probably leave the game not even thinking of the ref's performance.

I agree with this, however some of the mistakes they make are horrendous and they don't help themselves.

Like the one near the end of the game on Saturday when the referee (who I thought had an okay game apart from far too many bookings) blew for a free kick to Beith instead of letting the game play on, as there was a Beith forward with the ball in the box about 12 yards out from goal with a clear shot at goal.   He actually apologised to the Beith players, which is big of him but effectively cost them the chance to equalise.

Took myself off to Harris for a week in September. Harris itself was as majestic as always but the reason for going was to give myself a chance of getting out to St Kilda. The week was pretty windy with the trip cancelled at the first attempt. However, it was a go for the following day. I will admit the 2hr 45min boat journey to get out there was fairly tortuous with 9 of the 13 on board suffering from sea sickness, luckily enough not me but it was very rough going across the northerly swell.

St Kilda is awesome, I've wanted to go for a long time ever since I flew around it years ago in the RAF. You get about 4 hours on Hirta which is long enough for a good look around and to walk up to the top of the cliffs etc. You then get back on the boat for a trip around the sea stacks and Boreray which was amazing.20220915_115233.thumb.jpg.ee7fbe13078f68a74a0da2aac2b672fe.jpg

    That looks great.

We tried to go in July 2017 but both our days were cancelled because the sea was too rough to land, which was so disappointing.   Haven't managed to fit it in again but would like to

Superb player. May need to beef up a bit but a boy with real talent.  On his game he is unplayable.  His ball control while moving at speed is lovely to watch. Queens Park could be on to a winner here .  He doesn't score ordinary goals either he has put away some belters for Arthurlie this season.

His leaving will be a big loss for Arthurlie.   Very good player.

I have to disagree with this,  I don’t think I have seen very few games this season where I have thought the ref did not have any impact on the outcome of a game.  It’s not the aspects of the game which you have mentioned handball and offside it’s  sending offs that are not sending offs and vice versa players getting booked when it’s a red card, it’s giving a throw in to the wrong team and then that team scoring from the throw in. The standard is getting worse as the SFA fast track refs up the levels and they are not ready,  I mean 4 years ago I was watching Kevin Clancy, Andrew Dallas and and Don Robertson refereeing junior games now they are doing rangers and Celtic games and they are not good enough.

Wish it had been only 4 years - maybe 8-10 years ago.  Dallas lied about Kenny Shiels 9/10 seasons ago when he accused him of foul language, which Kilmarnock/Shiels proved was not the case as there was a camera filming behind the dug outs that Dallas never knew about.

Clancy has been on the international list of FIFA referees since January 2012.

Steve Hackett at Glasgow was outstanding. What a top team of musicians. First half of Hackett material then Foxtrot. Wonderful stuff. He's some guitarist.

First time i've missed him in years due to family commitments.   Good to hear it was a good gig.

Club: Hearts 0 - 2 Kilmarnock  - to win the League in 1965 I was only 3 at the time.  If not that game the game earlier in that season when we came back from 4 goals down to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-4 on aggregate in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.   (I think Tommy McLean made his debut for us that night).

Country: 1967 victory over England at Wembley.   Failing that either game against France for the 2008 World Cup (I Couldn't get tickets)

Other: Partizan Belgrade v Kilmarnock in the Europa League would have been my choice as this was to be my first away match in Europe watching Killie.  My father and brother were there, and sadly I don't think we will get another chance to see us play away from home in Europe.

Other match would have the World Cup Semi-Final between France and Germany in 1982.  Either that or the Italy v Brazil game in the same tournament.

I must admit, the sight of Neil Lennons face when Super Killie ended his treble dream at Hampden when Celtic apparently only had to turn up will remain in my Top 100 football memories.
The thing you lot will never understand is that we have never cared who we’ve beaten to win the silverware, I mean, The Tennent Caledonian Trophy win at Ibrox in 1979 is probably the very best in my time, you simply had to be there! Goan the Diddys

I was at both but beating Celtic in 2012 was a far greater experience than winning the Tennent Caledonian Trophy (TCT) IMO.   While the circumstances of winning the TCT were hilarious it doesn't beat seeing popcorn's face at the end of the game, then listening to him moaning again.

However the actual winning of the League Cup was the best experience in my lifetime of watching Killie, simply because to the level of the opposition, and was IMO something that old firm fans could possibly experience if they were to win a European trophy.

They will disagree though, which they are perfectly entitled to do, with them being entitled people.

Just saw on twitter that the guy who grassed Arthurlie up is a committee member for another team from another division.  The tweet also alludes to the fact his team have played suspended players as trialists. How can that be allowed if true ?  The guy in question is normally all over threads like this but is strangely quiet. Hiding under his stupid wee hat I presume.

That's really disappointing if true, however Arthurlie and the player need to look at themselves, especially the player.   I can't understand why determining the issue of  imminent suspensions are not covered properly as part of the signing-on process for new players.

    Haha, f**k sake!

They were banging on about the pitch as if it had murdered a load of kids, and seemingly it was stopping Celtic 'playing their game'.

Thank God it stopped them then or it would have been 8.

This subject is the biggest load of crap that's ever talked about with regards to Scottish football.   I genuinely don't think we get any advantage from it and I always think these pitches favour the better football teams.

I’ve stopped going to away games completely. Once you add up the ticket price, travel costs, and so on, just don’t want to do it any more.

Until relegation a couple of years ago I would easily go to more than half of our away games, but i'm now at the stage where I am now most likely to only attend the likes of St Mirren (a local game for me), Motherwell, Livingston and probably Hearts as my brother stays very close to Tynecastle, due to the prices charged by the clubs plus travel costs - You are talking of over £50 before buying any food or drinks.   I'll probably head along and watch Arthurlie if they are at home when Killie are playing away from home.

For Ross County to charge £28 is unbelievable - how can they justify that?

I also think Kilmarnock are totally wrong charging the 2 cheeks as well as walk up Killie fans £30 - if I didn't have a season ticket I wouldn't be anywhere near it.

I'm on a works pension but too young to qualify for state pension/concession prices so I can't justify paying the full prices being charged by the majority of the clubs.

If you’re anything like my age the momentum rule that was brought in years ago makes it a coin toss whether a forward pass is called or not.  Load of shite if you ask me.  Parallel line from where the ball is released.  If it’s caught forward of that it’s a forward pass.  Too much inconsistency from refs with the momentum law.

Cheers.   I wasn't aware of that as Iplayed rugby in the mid-late 70s.

I can understand the logic of the rule but to me a forward pass is a forward pass irrespective of momentum and 2 of the SA tries definitely included 2 forward passes.

At least i now know why these decisions are made, albeit I don't like them.

It doesn't seem to be an issue in Rugby League, which I much prefer.

Absolutely the best Scottish keeper ever and arguably better than Shilton & Clemence.

Who can forget "Two Andy Gorams" though?

I was at Ibrox the day Killie fans sang that song and he took it really well if memory serves me right and also at Hampden the night he made his debut and the fans sang 'You're not English anymore"

Without a doubt the best Scottish goalkeeper I have ever seen and arguably as good as any other keeper in the UK, including Shilton and Southall.

Listened to Sportsound yesterday when they did a tribute to him which was excellent - I had forgotten he played with both  Motherwell and QOTS.

Think he was in his early 40s when he was at Killie, but he was always naturally fit, helped by being a non drinker/non smoker.

He was born less than 2 weeks  before my father so by the time I was going to the football regularly he was nearing the end of his career.

I became more aware of him when he came to Kilmarnock as assistant manager.   Could still cross a great ball during the warm ups.

As you say he was very fit, probably someone well ahead of the trend in his playing days.

I think I was talking rubbish when I said he played for our reserves in his late 40s - I now think that was Rab Stewart.

Sad to see wee Davie Wilson's passing announced to day. Aged 85, Davie played for many years at Ibrox and was instrumental in many of the club's triumphs in the 'sixties. Later he turned out for Dundee United and then Dumbarton, both with considerable success. He favoured his right foot, but was very good with his left, and mostly turned out as a left winger.

Also a manager at the Sons and Queen of the South, Davie gained 22 caps and scored 10 times (probably) for his country.

One memory of Davie which sticks in my mind was his goal, his second of the match, to defeat Partick Thistle at Firhill towards the end of 1969-70 season. Thistle were struggling at the foot of the table, and Davie refused to celebrate his goal as it would have pushed the side he trained with at Firhill towards the abyss.

    Great player.

I seem to remember him paying for our reserves in his late 40s

Was there not a particularly tousy affair at Celtic Park just after Burns left Killie? I believe Killie were 2-0 up but lost 4-2. Possibly that game?

I remember a mate of mine (Celtic supporter) was at the game and reported that evening it had had significant niggle and aggro etc.

Just checked and it seems that game may have been the following year. So, who knows?

I think it was from a game (November 1993) when we drew 2-2 at Rugby Park and Tom Brown was sent off for trying to punch Peter Grant.   If I remember correctly I think he missed.  Mark Skilling scored a late equaliser too.

Nowadays I don't mind Grant - funny how less important things are as you get older.

Met Jim Smith (ex-Dundee )in a few work meetings.

    He seemed fine.

Comes from the same town as me but I didn't know him as he was slightly older than me,  Met him on holiday in Paignton about 30 years ago - I think he was with Montrose at the time as I remember discussing Ivo Den Bieman at the time who had just signed for Dundee.

Alex McLeish is also a nice guy, who still keeps in touch with some of the guys he went through school with.

Did you not one end of season game give up 3 stands to Sevco? I’m sure you used to regularly give up 2 stands to the bigot brothers.

You and Motherwell have a major advantage over St Mirren in that you each have a massive away stand which is probably twice the size of our 2 stand system.

Personally I’d rather just ban the cnuts.

We used to give up two ends, which as I've mentioned above, nobody wants to go back to, but never three sides to my knowledge.

    They did, yes, in 2011.

3 stands handed to Rangers as a special event to celebrate their title win.

Wrong - they got 2 stands that day, but bought up loads of tickets for the other 2 stands. The main stand and the East Stand were both meant to be only for Killie fans.  It was horrific that afternoon and PC Plod and his assistants were utterly incompetent in stopping them git into these 2 stands.

That game and the aftermath of the day Celtic fans mis-behaved in 2003 when they lost the league at Rugby Park on goal difference are the 2 worst experiences I have ever experienced in over 50 years watching Killie.

The next season (2011/2012) we gave Celtic fans 3 stands the day they beat us 6-0 to win the league, just weeks after we beat them in the League Cup Final - and allowed their DJ to perform as well - dreadful.

I made sure I cleaned my seat the next time I was there first before sitting down.

Re St Mirren, ensure you only give the bigots one stand maximum.
