Well at least we didn't disgrace ourselves, quickly 3 down and I thought we were in big trouble. Had a few chances and Mason to his credit was causing them problems down the wing the first half. Looked more composed in the 2nd half and despite aiming to limit the damage we were still going forward.
Ultimately outclassed by one of the top sides in the country but we tried and didn't "park the bus".
Whilst it's admirable to have a go and given our recent defensive record it was easy for Rhys to continue with the same shape but retrospectively, it didn't work as we were wide open when Hearts came forward and losing 3 goals in 10 mins is pretty poor at any level. File under lessons learned.
Mason did have a good game and looks ready move up a level (don't know his contract situation but doubt he'll be here next season)but he was badly at fault with the 2nd goal no matter how good a pass it was.
Having said that there was still some good signs but definitely struggling up front, McGregor's pace was worrying the Hearts defence but we do need a plater with a bit more guile up there to compliment what we have.

Does anyone else have a sneaking suspicion megwa will be back to us on loan in the next few weeks?
He's not in the Hibs squad today.

Looks like McStravick is out for Sunday. Presumably Donnell in from the start in his place? A bit of extra physicality might not be a bad thing. I suppose the alternative would be Ballantyne starting with Watson moving inside and McCabe moving into midfield.
I'm a big Ballantyne fan but will depend on how fit he is and he might be better suited playing against Forrest than Watson, but do we really want to change the back 4? At least we have options and could Lyall replace McStravick?

Anyone going to go to the 1924 centenary dinner? My dad and I probably will. But £100 a ticket and not in Airdrie, on a working Sunday night? Not ideal, better be bloody good!

Sounds a good plan to me,aye and if shankland is giving us to much bother we will bring on Hutton
Shankland is giving me the fear. Fair play to him he's absolutely red hot at the moment and a certainty to make the Euros squad.

Back 4 seemed fine on Friday night and with Ballintyne back fit I think we are sound enough,I certainly wouldn't want Watson dropped for Megwa,
Can't have enough good players Jack.

Could Megwa make a return yet? Lost his place to a 16 year old yesterday (he did replace him though) and other RB's, Cadden on bench & Miller returning from international duty this week, albeit that he seemed to have an absolute mare and a target for the boo boys.

I wouldn't expect him to leave for another championship club and probably too soon for Hibs, my hope is that the lure of keeping on playing will keep him here another season so lets get the deal done, we've got a bit of extra money in this season so lets spend it on that.
Yeh, his biggest problem is his age but he's going to get mentioned when most jobs in Scotland come up. He needs to manage his career carefully as a wrong choice could set him back but he's a clever guy.
As we are all aware, PH keeps everything close to his chest but there is absolutely no way he's not been discussing new contracts with him and Dycey.
Of course situations change quickly in football and a quick look at the league table sees us in a healthy 5th place but 5 points from the relegation play off. I'll be much more relaxed if we can get 4 points from our next 2 league games against Ayr and Morton given that we've lost twice to Ayr and Morton are the league's form team.

Hoping for a TNS win tomorrow purely on the basis that I do not want to read an Airdrie v Falkirk cup final thread.

Airdrie side as expected although good to see the guys who have been out injured making the bench along with our new signing Donnell.

Another plus from the match preview is that Cammy Ballantyne is back taking part in training. Next reserve match is 13th February so hopefully he can feature in that and be back in the first team squad for our next League game v Ayr on the 17th.
Even better, Cammy on the bench tonight.

We should have new! Anyway, despite that he looks an interesting signing and adds a bit of height as well.

The flip side of us being competitive in this league is that I can’t remember a time when this league was so competitive. It’s been said before but a run of two or three poor results can drag us right back in to the myre again, but if we were to win these two we’ll be well on the road to guaranteed safety. In my mind I was thinking that ~32 points would be the mark to stay up, but seeing how things are set I think realistically we need to be looking at ~38-40 now. It’s all very well set up for an exciting second half of the campaign.
Yeh, 38-40 points will definitely be enough for any club not to finish bottom but yes it will be required to finish 8th.
Arbroath look to be really struggling though and not helped by injuries therefore I fear the worst for them and can actually see them getting tailed off.

McCabe has generally been great at centre-back but every now and then you see that isn't his natural position. Standing with his hand up for offside and not bothering to run back because he's so confident it's offside, when he has no idea that Watson is behind him playing everyone onside, is schoolboy stuff. Even if you're certain it's offside you have to go back with the man, he would have been in a position to win the rebound if he'd tracked back.
On the game it's probably a decent point. Partick will finish 2nd at worst I think so it's an encouraging performance to go toe to toe against them. As I said in the other thread, it's clear that at home we'll give everyone a game, it's how many points we can start taking away from home which will decide how high up the league we finish.
Our defensive line, which has been superb recently wasn't great but was Watson too deep or McCabe too high? Hancock's positioning was my first thought but perhaps the highlights might clarify. I do however concur that not running back is not what fans want to see.

I've still got one eye on the bottom 2 places of the table even though I do believe It's virtually impossible for Arbroath to finish out of the bottom 2. Two free hits coming up and wins would be great confidence boosters but ultimately our next 2 league games, Ayr (H) & Morton (A) are much more important and will go a long way to securing 8th place.
We're in a decent place but I still would like to see us signing a mobile centre forward as it would add so much to the side and different to what we've got. Perhaps someone in the mould of Jermaine Hylton until the season end might be realistic.

Yip with regards the Ayr game but whilst Dunfermline are on a bad run, our record is poor against them even though at times we've played well.
