Agree,  but one of the problems facing Rhys or any suitors is he has no coaching badges........

Unless teams are willing to do a Naismith style managerial mash up,  remember McAvoy was manager and Naismith in charge of football operations or some nonsense until he did his badges..

Rhys 's lack of badges is one of the reasons,   Airdrie like Buckie and a few others have only Entry Level status as a club,  which would have scuppered Airdrie if they got through the playoffs and saved the skin of the Premier club...  Disagree if you all want,  bit that seems to be the situation....

For Airdrie fans that should be very good news....

Imagine the irony if we did manage to get promoted  and we went cap in hand to 'oor' Willie Aitchieson  to become our 'Manager' with Rhys McCabe the Technical director until he sat his badges....

Rhys's badges, or lack off have just been discussed on Sportsound and how ironic it is that the most highly rated young manager in the country isn't "qualified".

We were entry status last summer and have until 1st July 2024 to reach Bronze. I'd be shocked if we haven't reached the requirement and it's been suggested on the Bookface page that there's nothing to worry about.

For me my ideal keep list would be -
    Rae
    Ballantyne
    Fordyce
    Hancock
    Megwa
    Aiken
    Frizzell
    Lyall
    McCabe
    McMaster
    McStravick
    Telfer
    Todorov
    Gabby

I’m not that bothered either way about Watson or McGregor and think they could and should be improved upon. But they’re also both good and, probably, relatively cheap squad options who can do us a turn in a couple of different positions so they’re worth hanging onto for that.

I have a lot of time for them both but Hutton and ATS should stick exclusively to the dugout now IMO. Will be interesting to see what McCabe’s plans are in terms of carrying on playing. His ability on the ball has been pivotal in games this season. But he’s been caught out for a pace a few times and this must be the least he’s played over a season in his career?

Think there’s little chance we’ll see Megwa back in a diamond unfortunately. I’ve heard the Rae to United and Murray Johnson returning stories too. I’d love to keep Rae but I’d be happy with Johnson as a replacement. Nonplussed about whether or not Hemfrey is the sub goalie but I think it does need sorted from pre-season. It wouldn’t surprise me if Gabby went back down south seeing as his partner and family are all still down there. Is Lyall out of contract at Rangers?

If we can keep the bulk and base of that squad then I think we’re a couple of good centre-halves (for Fordyce to take under his wing) and a good striker (in ye come Ben Wilson) from really consolidating our position.

As far as I'm concerned the loanees have now gone and we have to look at the permanent signings as most loan deals tend to be last minute.

Couldn't disagree more regarding McGregor. Never thought he would make it but I see vast improvement in the guy and pace like his is really hard to find at our level.

As much as it’ll be a tough ask I think we will keep the core of the squad. I keep going on about it (especially in relation the McCabe) but we are as good for them as they are for us. If we manage to keep the core of the squad I’d like to see us add a keeper, a starter CB, a back up CB and a goalscorer. I’d also go in with an offer for Megwa, he might have better offers either at Hibs or elsewhere but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he looks like a star playing in our system and id put my house on making the money back and then some by selling him on.

It's been mentioned many times on here but current players under contract is an unknown therefore a fee would be required for them to move on. Wouldn't disagree with your Megwa comments but fear we'll get blown out of the water when it comes to the finances but what a boost it would be to start next season with him and Hancock as the full/wing backs.

If we're to have a sub keeper next season it doesn't look like it'll be a sub for this guy. Coupled with an earlier enigmatic tweet from Josh with an egg timer and a previous poster suggesting that Muz Johnson may be on his way it certainly seems that he's away. If not then I'd have to say it's extremely disrespectful to team mates to f**k off on holiday whilst play offs are ongoing. Screenshot_20240510-071420.thumb.png.2867f1e2787af778ea0c620d0c4eaf73.png

A bit harsh to speculate and criticise a player recovering from bleed on the brain!

Was just coming on to say the same thing.  This has been an incredible season to be an Airdrie fan, seeing us not only play a level up but actually competing, taking on good teams and beating them, and doing it by playing entertaining football that's good to watch.  Whether the season ends tonight or goes on for another few games, they deserve immense credit for what they've done.

Agree, given where we've been in recent seasons it's a much more comfortable watch than the League 1 play offs and the disappointment that followed, well until last season.

Having said that, I still believe we can get through tonight but we can't afford to give away goals like we did on Tuesday and that's taking nothing away from McBeth's screamer but it came from us losing possession.

I think the keeper should be coming for a floated ball that far out, so is initially to blame. But it should be obvious when the ball is halfway through it's flight that he wasn't coming for it (and the fact he presumably didn't shout for it) therefore the defenders have to deal with it. Watson and Ballantyne fall over each other trying to get to Graham, and Megwa is completely asleep wondering towards his own goal when he should be with Robinson. Just really poor all round.

We're so reliant on Fordyce heading 90% of the cross balls that come into our box.

Aye I tend to agree. Whilst we were expected to go down, we have consistently showed that, on our day, we are as good as anyone in the league. With ballantyne coming back then it should let us go back to the formation which helped us win the last few games to secure the play off, including beating Raith away. I am Not overly confident but stranger things have happened.

So barring any unforeseen injuries it looks like we'll line up:

                   Hemfrey

    Watson Fordyce Ballantyne

                  McMaster

    Megwa Telfer Frizzell Hancock

                Todorov McGill

Lyall & McGregor perhaps unlucky to be left out but they'll definitely be used at some point.

I take it that assessment applies to Todorov as well? As I seem to remember him celebrating in front of the QP fans when he scored his late winner against us.

So maybe it's just young male athletes in high pressure situations letting off a bit of steam eh?

    Good luck next week.

I'm normally fine with all this but double flicking the victory sign could be a tad problematic at certain fixtures featuring other Glasgow based football clubs.
