Those disciplinary tables prove Morton fans' point about the last game. We get a higher number of bookings per foul committed than anyone else in the division because referees are already predisposed to be looking out for big bad physical Morton, as shown by us somehow ending up with twice as many bookings as Queen's Park last week. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and if we ever approached a game the way Airdrie did at Cappielow we'd be down to 8 men by half-time.

Please, please mate, this nonsense is exclusive to old firm fans.

  2. Another match preview and for tomorrow night we'll be without Rae, McStravick & once again, Murray Aiken. It's looking very much like his season is over and appears that he's had a set back with his recovery which is extremely disappointing and lost season for the boy.

Perhaps we can get him back next season as he'll be way down the pecking order with Hibs especially with their recent investment.

I do generally agree. I never fancied Watson at centre back last season either and I do think he’s made fewer mistakes there this season, though a lot of that is probably down to the team being a lot more structured defensively. Agree on Megwa too, I’d have Ballantyne back in on Tuesday night.

I thought I’d be kind to O’Connor as I usually moan about him when he plays but yeah, other than the goal he wasn’t in the game at all. He very much needs a loan spell in League Two next season. McGill or McGregor being fit enough to start on Tuesday night would be a huge boost.

Megwa certainly had his poorest game to date in an Airdrie shirt to date but not sure I'd be dropping him with Ballantyne's fitness still a bit off although I'm a huge fan. Watson has been excellent recently at CB but always has an error in him no matter what position he plays.

Lyall is beginning to frustrate the life out of me, talented yes, but other than his performance against Arbroath he's not doing nearly enough. Absolutely anonymous in the 1st half last night and can't keep dipping in and out of games. With Telfer not having his performance either last night, no one else stepped up though.

Still early days for Hemfrey but clearly not as comfortable as Rae on the ball and I'm really concerned about him on cross balls, and not just the 2nd goal last night. I'm still prepared to put it down to lack of game time but I'm a tad worried.

An absolute certainty to me that McGill or McGregor will play against Arbroath on Tuesday, maybe even both in which all of sudden is our biggest game of the season.

On to today's matches and I will be keeping a big eye on Firhill. An Inverness win would tighten the league even more and heap pressure on everyone up to us especially as they have Arbroath at home the following week.

  4. Well it's back to league business and 3 games in week which will define our final league position and a win on Friday would put real pressure on the teams below us. We've been really disappointing against Ayr so far but heartening to see the McGregor, McGill were back on the bench for the cup final and that Lyall & Megwa will be back in contention to start.

Dunfermline are at Arbroath on Saturday and I would expect them to win so they could profit if we again don't turn up at Ayr.

I actually agree with this, it's very early days but he has been very lucky that the defence have been able to cover for him in his games thus far as he looks as if he could be an absolute bomb scare when we are under proper pressure.

He's not played a lot of football lately, and perhaps there's a reason for this, but as you say it's far too early to write him off although it's noticeable in his 2 games that he's taking no chances with the playing out from the back. I'm sure this has came from the manager and is a sensible approach given his recent lack of game time and I can't imagine it was easy to find someone who was, but ultimately it's the style the manager wants to play.

  6. Great achievement from the Diamonds. Rae, Aitken, McGregor, McGill not fit & lost McStravick & McCabe through injury during the game. Add in Megwa& Lyall both cup tied, yeh I'll take that!!

Great to see a rather confused Pie & Bovril with loads not knowing if it's New York or New Year. 🤣

After that sticky period and Dows quick run in for the opener, we finally got the midfield and forwards going , especially Lyall and McStravick.

Good to see five different scorers and although Boric was dodgy at Watsons goal he saved a bit of a hiding later on.

Arbroath did show a bit of a fight early on but once Airdrie got the fourth they  looked like a side soon facing relegation.

I like McKenna as a player but his foul on Frizzel was worthy of a straight red card. Little and O'Brien now seem just beyond their great partnership.

Hard to judge our new keeper but our defence was excellent for the most part. It certainly did help when Reilly went off and Mega had that side to himself from then on.

    Onwards to the cup final.

I'd need to see it again but our thought our keeper was at fault for Arbroath's 2nd, the balls squared across, well inside the 6 yard box. Looked a bit hesitant to me but understandable given his lack of games.

No issue with the time wasting tbh. Think we’re forgetting the time Rae takes to take a goal kick when we’re winning. However, little and McKenna should’ve been off for me.

McKenna lost the plot for the challenge in front of the Arbroath fans, could easily been a red.

Thought it took Airdrie 20 mins to get to grips with Arbroath trying to boot the full team into the stands and once Reilly went off Arbroath offered nothing.

PS Ricky Little is finished at this level and should’ve been sent off twice.

    Fair comment.

Never seen anyone in this league tormenting Megwa like Reilly was, hope he's ok, but I was glad to see the back of him and Airdrie dominated from that point on. Actually thought Lyall was pish for the first 20 mins until turning into prime Messi for the rest of the game, and definitely MOM!

Unfortunately, it's all over for Arbroath for me and bang goes one of my favourite away days.

Obviously no idea what he's like but I hope we don't put too much expectation on him to play out from the back like Rae does, at least initially. We've had good result recently being a bit more direct and whilst those were away on heavy grass pitches I'd hope we'd keep being relatively direct tomorrow until the goalie beds in. I felt that was part of the problem the boy Henderson had last year when he came in, instead of just asking him to focus on standard goalkeeper stuff we had him as a playmaker from the back and it just caused confusion at the back.

Had a little google about him and some Rotherham fans did suggest his kicking wasn't great so it seems you've made a pertinent point as Rhys's game plan starts with the sweeper keeper! His lack of action has to be of some concern and I would suspect he's basically on trial until the end of the season.

We'll have to wait and see.

  11. The challenge cup final is of secondary importance to Saturday’s game, obviously I’d prefer we won both but with ICT & Caley playing each other then we have a massive chance to increase the gap to 9th place and of course sneak into the top 4. Arbroath in last chance saloon and they know draws are no use to them so i expect them to more attacking than normal.

As @Mr November said, our current injuries are leaving us very short of pace and with Gal looking completely out of sorts, although he’s also had an interrupted season, it could well be Josh O’Connor coming in for his final chance. Quite honestly, if he doesn’t start this game then he never will.

Maybe me being cynical buts that tells us absolutely nothing. Hope he is ok and course that is what’s important but why not say what the outcome if he is taking the time to post “disappointing news”

Just needs a “PM me chick” reply to someone who asked what the news is.

I think the "disappointing news" from the player himself tells its own story. Yes I suppose, we don't know how long he's going to be out but probably he doesn't either yet.

  13. The player's reaction to Josh's injury (broken jaw/cheekbone?) suggested that it wasn't good news and that looks to be confirmed. Big blow but I suppose the search for an emergency loan has already begun.

Gabby coming off early is also a concern especially with Lewis McGregor out which may give more opportunities to Josh O'Connor to provide a bit of pace up front.

This is one of reasons I really hope we can stay up, had a look at league one table earlier and a few things stood out, if we hadn't won the playoff we probably wouldnt have won the league this season either, QOTS look like they are in a similar trajectory to us and staying in league one for a while and what's happened to Edinburgh CIty?

Edinburgh City in dire financial trouble, struggling to pay wages and got a points deduction.

I think it’s a very different situation with us and Raith, to be fair. There hasn’t been an incident of our players racially abusing Todorov, then the fans abusing him for reporting it and getting the player banned…

As above, last night is a bit of a non-story. He was walking off the park slowly (as he’s entitled to do), fans were frustrated and booed, he shushed them. People making a mountain out of a molehill with this one. There’s still a mutual respect there.

Indeed it is, I think its fair to say he instigated the "shushing" with the Rovers fans and responded to boos with a "shush" last night.

Anyway, I hope he is  "shushing" the Caley fans on Saturday.

  16. Great management from Rhys as he's always on about implementing our style of play on the opposition but obviously took one look at the pitch and decided to go hoof ball and great to see the return of the Beastie boys as there's been accusations that we can be a bit of a tippy tappy soft touch. A bit lucky as Frizzell would have walked if the VAR gurus were watching even though it wasn't for me but a great cross for the first and good to see him play well.

The back 4 were outstanding all night with, as usual, Fordyce being a magnet for cross balls.

Dunfermline fans suggesting that the pitch (touchy subject I know) is not in the best condition therefore I wouldn't have McStravick in the starting 11. I might not have him in anyway as he's not contributing enough and he was getting brushed aside by Longridge too easily for my liking. Note the difference when Hancock blew past Longridge for his goal on Saturday.

Admittedly Frizz has been struggling but Lyall & Donnell haven't really impressed to date either. I can't pick the side tonight but we need to find a system that includes Megwa, Ballantyne & Hancock. McCabe will replace McMaster if fit but the suggestion that he has a hammy doesn't look good. McGill looks a certain starter too given that he's a lot more mobile than Toddy or Gal. Be delighted to get a point tonight.

Well we don't need to bother about squeezing in our 3 full backs. Ballantyne not in the squad and lets hope is not a recurrence of his previous injury.

Agree with much of this. I still think he’s wasted in too much a wide role like he played at Dumbarton and there’s a reason he kicked on so much with us after moving more central but he played his best football when Easton was the 10 and he was playing a deeper role. I think he’s best used as an 8 that can drive the team up the park rather than as the central playmaker. Would McStravick, Lyall, Donnell be any better as the 10 though? I’m not sure. I think Lyall seems a fairly similar player to Frizzell that would be better driving from deep. Donnell looked good when he came on at the weekend I thought but he really struggled against Ayr. Not sure how he’d do in that role. McStravick might make the most sense but he’s maybe more likely to struggle physically in the middle than against a full back and I thought he got a bit bullied on Saturday although he had decent flashes.

Said it the other day Jakubiak looked frightening when he came on and pretty much ended Taylor-Sinclair's season.

Couldn't agree more, I know he doesn't have the greatest goal scoring record but his pace, and our lack of, is a definite cause for concern. McGregor is our only forward who's quick and can get in behind but unfortunately he's out again.
