Totally get why Morton fans are confident given their recent form and the law of averages suggest it might be there turn to beat us, but they also suggest that their long unbeaten run will come to an end soon.

I will be optimistic if Fordyce is playing and pessimistic if he's not, as was proven last week.

One for Morton fans. Iain Wilson was a player I admired and thought he was a tremendous signing for QOS last season in league 1  but had a terrible season and now he seems back to the player he was the previous year. I'm aware he did have a couple of injuries and I suppose it's difficult to play on QOS's shite playing surface but why the massive turn around?

Now that Fordyce is playing and a couple of big players missing for Morton, I'm now more optimistic but would still rather have the Manager playing in place of McMaster even though he's been pretty good recently.

Very tricky game coming up, we cannot afford another 3 points to disappear with a trip midweek to Tannadice looming.

Hopefully and to be honest I expect Fordyce to be back at CB alongside Watson,  I can see McCabe sitting this one out, a bench job for him and Megwa probably.   Back 4 of Ballantyne, Watson, Fordyce and Hancock..      McMaster sitting, with Frizzell, Lyall and Telfer in front of him, with McGregor and Todorov up front,     in all honesty I would take a draw of offered..

With Ballantyne just back from injury and a load of games coming up, I can see Megwa replacing him although I wouldn't be surprised if we change shape if Fordyce doesn't make it.

Delighted to have Megwa back. We certainly lack in other areas but I’m not sure there’s many teams in this league where I’d swap our full-back options.

I’m not advocating for changing the shape from a diamond, which has worked so well recently, but we did start a defence of almost entirely full-backs in the first half hour at Kirkcaldy in the 1-1 draw. It looked oddly defensive on paper but we played something like this until Hancock went off injured and looked excellent for that short spell:

    Rae
    Watson - ATS - Hancock
    Megwa - McMaster - McCabe - Ballantyne
    Telfer - Frizzell
    Todorov

Any word on Murray Aiken? That’s been almost four months now so fingers crossed he can play a part during the last quarter. It’s a shame his season has turned out like this as I think he’d be a great fit in one of the wider diamond positions that Telfer and McStravick have played recently.

The manager did mention in last weeks pre-match preview he had a minor set back but almost ready to resume training. As always he never gives much away with the injury situations and never mentioned McStravick either.

We are very difficult to score against, 7 clean sheets in our last 9 league games is ridiculous and we are also scoring goals,  15 goals in our last 6.

Yip, you have the joint 2nd best goals against record in the league, with emm, Airdrieonians.

Granted, you certainly score more than us.

Lyall definitely has ability but I'm not sure of his best position. It appears that he would best in Frizz's role.

Dycey's fitness needs evaluated quickly as we are so reliant on him.

I get the point about moving Hancock into central defence but what a loss that would be the left back role. Our best player by a mile at this time.

    Concur about Ayr threads!

On a side note, Dougie Imrie confirmed last week in a pre match interview that he also tried to sign Lyall but he chose us.

    I think the main points that we've learned from the game are that;

Aaron Lyall needs to start, I thought he was excellent when he came on.

McCabe is good at centre back but only when Dycey is playing next to him.

Watson is far better as a right back and is a complete bombscare at centre back.

Lewis McGregor is a better player playing his new role in a front two.

If Dycey is out for a longer period of time I'd probably look to switching Hancock to centre half to play along side McCabe, I don't think Watson and McCabe work playing there together. I'd put Ballantyne at left back and Watson at right back.

I agree with most of the posts above, I don't think we played badly at all but you can't be gifting teams 3 goals, not just at this level but at any level.

On a positive note there's only one more game left vs Ayr and only one more binfire of a match thread left this season.

We have one potential loanee only to come in, 2 weeks left of the final window of the season,  what do we do....

Apparently we have asked Hibs about Megwa again and been knocked back, even although the lad wasn't even on the Hibs 18 today..  do we keep knocking on that door till it opens,   or have we enough full back options. And we could.maybe explore the option of a potential centre back that could give us a hand on basic defending skills in what os bound to be a fraught end to the season..

If we could guarantee that Ballantyne & Hancock remain fit for the rest of the season then the preference would be a centre back however how hard it is to turn Megwa down. However, if Fordyce is out, even for another 2 or 3 games then a centre back would be an absolute necessity!

It seems pretty much a universal opinion since pre season about our need for a centre back.

At times played some of the best stuff we’ve played all season. Hancock excellent, McMaster excellent, McGregor excellent. All three goals conceded from very basic errors and it becomes a game lost that we should have won at a canter.

Mr McCabe, please start Lyall next week, he’s excellent.

It's Greenock next week, lets hope Fordyce is back given that there's very likely to be an aerial bombardment!

  10. We actually played quite well today but simply no team at any level can give goals away like we did and expect anything.

Ballantyne will need a few games to get back up to speed and Donnell showed up well but ditto. More importantly lets hope Fordyce is back soon as he is sorely missed!

I mentioned during the week that we needed a forward with a bit of guile, Jamie Murphy's set up for the 2nd goal was a good example of what I meant.

The problem we have is that our talented tricky midfielders are not scoring goals. Hopefully now that Frizz has scored he will settle down in front of goal and just pass a few into the net. Telfer has it in his locker to score but again it is just not happening and we need to be less reliant on the strikers getting all the goals.

McCabe needs to move back into midfield and get Janny and Ballantyne back as a unit. Hearts 4th goal was due to McCabe not holding the line then standing with his arm up. Players in their natural positions at the back have been drilled against this their whole playing career and McCabe has done well at the back as the results show but his strength is in front of the defence controlling the game and using his superb passing game.

We also need to start some squad rotation to avoid a pile up of injuries and we have players who can come into the team and still play in the system and do a good job. Not sure what the latest on Fordyce is but he would be a big miss if out for an extended period.

Totally agree that a Fordyce injury would be massively worrying as we have no one close to matching his aerial ability. Hancock would be next but that in turn would be another issue given his recent performances as a leftie.

I think Doncaster City is a McKay creation or vehicle. They were only established a year or two ago and play at the bottom of the English pyramid., Central Midlands North League or some other such nonsense. Mark McKay is the chairman and Jack McKay plays for them, as does our trialist from this pre-season Muhamet Gashi. I think it was Doncaster City who tried to get into the Scottish Cup last season under the Treaty of Durham.

Right, admit it, who has read this fantastic highly amusing post and googled the "Treaty of Durham"?

My thoughts are that seeing as the adverts had the prices exclusive of VAT it was clearly being marketed towards corporate sponsors and probably there weren't many tickets left for the open market, including 1924 members.

Sadly a friend of mine and a season ticket holder of 48 years couldn't secure a corporate table or even a single seat.

Poor show as unique events like this are for the real fans!

The BBC are reporting the crowd as 6555 (?!). Not sure how they got to this figure as Hearts must have sold near enough 4500, the main stand was full other than section A (250) and a few rows behind the dugouts/a few empty seats here and there (say 150 tops). Even stripping out the middle hospitality section I think the figure should be starting with a 7 and not a 6?

Aye, but got to hide some figures from HMRC!
