  1. I'm more worried about our last performance at Airdrie against Dunfermline than conspiracies, as quite honestly its the easiest we've been beaten all season, we were much better at East End earlier in the season. Aiken & McGregor will be missing which hurts us as they are our 2 quickest players from middle to front, although getting used to Aiken being out as that's been 4 months now and hopes diminishing that we'll see him again this season.

Our away record is poor even including last weeks win at Tannadice but as always, we need to score first to win.

Results elsewhere, once again, show that it's up to us to win games to get out of this relegation dogfight rather than rely on anyone else.

Yes, this applies to all sides from Dunfermline down. It's a mini league from now until the end of season.

If results this weekend are anything to go by it could be more. I'd say 45 is safety, anything between 40-44 and you could still be in trouble. ICT getting 4 wins and a draw in 9 games is perfectly feasible, as is Ayr/Dunfermline/QP getting 4 wins each. I know everyone has to play each other so they can't all win, but equally it means every week teams beneath us are guaranteed to get some points as they are playing each other. The top sides are poor so every game is winnable for every team.

Not saying it's a disaster of a result, but was just surprised to see people think it was quite a good result or that 'nothing was lost' - nothing was lost to QP but we lost ground on a few teams round about us which is ultimately matters.

Of course a win today would have put us in a really strong position but Its going to change with every week.  In fact, a win for us on Tuesday would all of a sudden see us looking at the play offs at the other end of the table, likewise Dunfermline. It's crazy!

After these next round of games against the sides round about us which culminate in a home game against Arbroath on the 2nd April, if we're not 3 points clear of 9th, then that will be very worrying.

Not sure I share that positive thought, obviously it's preferable to losing when 1-0 down and in isolation it's an okay result as this version of QP are a decent side. But in the context of the season drawing at home to a bottom half side is a bad result. This weekend we've lost 2 points on Arbroath, Dunfermline and ICT, gained 1 on Ayr and gained nothing from QP despite playing them at home. We now only have 4 home games left and it's been our home form which has largely kept us above he relegation spots.

Draws will probably be enough to keep Arbroath at bay, but other than that they will have us heading down the league given other teams results at the moment.

Yes, it might take us down the league but if we draw our remaining 11 games that would take us to 43 points which I would expect be enough for any side to finish 8th.

  5. Massive game tomorrow with 5 clubs trying to avoid 9th place and a lot of looking at other results going on but the only way to avoid 9th place is to look after yourselves. Whilst 3 points would take us 4 points away from QP with 2 games in hand, its probably more important we do not lose and potentially drop to 3rd bottom.

The comment above will apply to our next 5 games which are all effectively 6 pointers. An average of 1 point game from our remaining 12 should be enough for us to secure 8th place even though the club are aiming higher.

Im not necessary having a go I was just expecting a team that plays thru the lines and I got a team that had the goalie punting it to the strikers for knockdowns.

    you won fair and square.

Different sides react differently to how we play but we do knock it about the back where the intention is for the opposing side to get frustrated and lose there shape, so that we can pass through the lines. If sides decide not to press then its more of the traditional stuff although our keeper does normally play high and is actually a very good long passer which sometimes is a punt like most goalies. In fairness it's had mixed results and we've been caught a few times.

Interesting team tonight. I can’t work out whether it’s a back five again with a fairly attacking midfield or a diamond with Hancock/Ballantyne at centre back.

Pleased to see Gallagher and McGill back in, with McGregor out we need a runner up top and Todorov doesn’t offer anywhere near enough when he’s not scoring, so Gallagher deserves another chance, especially in a game where we might need his hold up play.

Me neither, surprised that McGill & Gal are both starting but you would expect Gal to be the deeper of the 2. Not surprised McStravick is back in as I think its very clear that Rhys really rates him.

Interesting that United make 4 changes as well with Wotherspoon injured, Moult and Fotheringham on the bench.

It's all about opinions, everybody sees the game differently, but we all want the same goal 8th or better...

Just going over a couple of points Watson and Fordyce , with Megwa and Hancock either side coincided with our upturn on form,   Saturday we shoehorned Megwa in  and pushed Cammy in one, it didn't work and I don't actually see why we tried it,  it showed how exposed we were in forward areas ,   What do you think about Lyall replacing Frizzell who has been subbed off the last couple of games,  Lyall played the same role as Frizzell at Rangers,  we need a spark from somewhere,

It's hard to see Lyall getting the nod tomorrow night after getting hooked at half time on Saturday although I wouldn't be averse to Frizz making way.

A quick turnaround from Saturday so fitness will dictate who plays with hints that McStravick could be back in the squad but I do think he'll go the 5 at the back and we'll see the most defensive McCabe side ever.

                                                Rae

      Ballantyne  McCabe/Watson   Fordyce    Megwa   Hancock

                                       Telfer and  4 others

For me when a team gets in a rut the most important thing is to get back to the basics of what you do well and work from there. Don’t overcomplicate things. Questionable whether or not we can call this a rut yet but it’s three losses in a row (including Hearts game in the cup) and while I generally like to remain positive it is most likely going to become four losses on Tuesday night when we go away to the league leaders.

Three of our best players are full backs, that leaves two options: leave one on the bench or play one out of position. You could argue that a back 5 means playing all three out of position, and it’s also a change away from the system we’ve been most successful with. I think we’ve either got to have Hancock partner Fordyce at centre back in a 4, or potentially Megwa although he’s not the tallest, or push one of them into midfield. I was surprised to see McGregor dropped yesterday as I think he’s been doing well but we’re now left with very few options out wide with him picking up an injury. I think Gallagher deserves a run in the team over Toddy as well.

    Rae

    Megwa Fordyce Hancock Ballantyne

    Telfer McCabe Frizzell

    McGill Gallagher Lyall

I think something like that could work. Not entirely keen on limiting Hancock since he’s been so effective down the wing but Fordyce needs a centre back partner and he might be the player best-suited to that. Could try Megwa at centre back but I’ve no idea how that would go. McCabe could drop back to let Ballantyne come inside and Hancock overlap in theory, but that might be overcomplicating things (especially considering since I’m trying to emphasise not doing that and instead getting the basics right). I thought Lyall looked good taking a man on when he came off the bench against Ayr so a wide role could work, but could just as easily drop him into a midfield diamond and play a front two to maintain the shape we’d been using recently.

Not really enamoured with the front 3 who for one reason or another haven't impressed but with McGregor potentially injured again and Todorov we have little options other than bringing in a loanee.

Unpopular opinion but would cancelling Aitken’s loan due this injury and look to bring someone else in not be better now. Very little sign of him coming back. Not that we give much in the way of updates though.

Whilst I'm a huge fan of Aiken and his energy and ball winning abilities have been sorely missed, absolutely it needs urgently evaluated. Rhys did state that he had a minor set back but there's his fit to return date, then his match fitness date. It would be very harsh on the boy to cancel his loan and perhaps sour relationship with Hibs but the club comes first.

Of course, only if there is a suitable alternative!

The balance isn’t right - so many midfielders (young and experienced) not contributing enough in the way of goals or even a goal threat - and we bring in even more. We needed strengthening up front and probably another centre half to help Dycey out/cover. No idea why we asked ATS to step in yesterday in a game like that after we’ve not seen him for months (?) - can’t remember last time he played.

Agree but given our lack of goals, a forward is a priority, but at this stage with the domestic loan market closing in a few days then there is probably no one good enough or more importantly available.  Most fans thought that Gal & Gabby would do ok this year but it hasn't worked out that way although both have struggled with injuries and perhaps Gal's part time status is a step too far.

Its abundantly clear that, at the moment we can't compete financially with other clubs in this league hence why we sign so many young players but sometimes you have to "push the boat out" for that guy who can make a difference to secure our championship status.

I still believe we are very much on an upward curve and we don't need many more wins to finish 8th but they now have to come against the teams around us. Would be great to get something at Tannadice on Tuesday night but next Saturday against QP is huge where a defeat would leave me very worried.

Well I had 0 thought that 10 minutes added time would’ve happened

Ref actually cut it short. 7 mins injury but only played 6.

Anyway well done to Morton and it looks like a top 4 place is virtually guaranteed. We have a job on our hands finishing 8th as I can't help thinking that Arbroath losing a 94th equaliser today has more or less knocked the stuffing out of them.
