But how many were from crosses?

On a more relevant note, given the marginal forecast on Saturday, how does the surface cope with the rain and will strong SSW/SW winds cause any excitement?

I feel our pitch actually plays better the wetter it is so that shouldn’t be a problem.

There have been plenty of games ruined by high winds in recent memory though. For some reason gale force winds and our brand of hoofball don’t mix.

    This.

We've not been great at defending crosses for a few years, probably since the Higgins and Dowie pairing, although the first part of last season where Brownlie was pretty dominant in the air was ok, but 19QOS19 has a tendency to fixate on it endlessly to the extent as above he's counting crosshots fizzed along the ground as extra evidence of it. It's a bit early to condemn the current defence for it to be honest. Indeed the current defence has been pretty dominant in the air and hasn't largely been troubled by an open play cross yet. W've had issues at set pieces, particularly two very cheap ones on Saturday but it wasn't really the defenders at fault, more midfielders who didn't do their job when added to the mix.

Unless Dom Thomas has radically changed his style since his two loan spells with us he tends to play on the right and cut inside onto his left to fire balls at goal. He's not a get to the byeline and hang up a cross type winger. Contrary to the fear above I'd be delighted if Raith throw in crosses from open play all day. Pretty confident the centre backs will deal with them. It's set pieces that are the issue, not open play crosses. We lack height in the squad outwith the two centre backs.

Did they? I barely read anything about the undeniably harsh injustice Kelty had. Hearts got lots of column inches but they are the 4th biggest club in the country probably and made their own publicity. I saw a lot more about Thistle than was ever written about Stranraer and Kelty, especially once they joined the joint legal action with Hearts.

I'll confess I didn't follow the fallout all that closely, once the decision was made all the talk became rather tedious and futile, but I know radio Scotland kept banging the drum for Kelty with the argument that it was making a mockery of the newly introduced pyramid system.

It was a shitty situation all round that we undoubtedly benefitted from while others were undoubtedly hard done by but I thought the hard luck story about Kelty was out of proportion considering what they were "robbed of" was a chance to play a two legged tie, for the right to play another two-legged tie, which may have seen them promoted.  It's not quite as harsh as Partick being a point behind us with a game in hand, or the Raith/Falkirk scenario discussed above.

I'm sure most Rovers fans can relate. I know I was far from confident of us going on to win the league from the position we were in although I'm fairly confident it would have come down to the final game of the season at Grangemouth.

In fact there was a reasonable chance that if the Saturday fixtures had gone ahead instead of being cancelled at 24 hours notice we would have lost top spot to Falkirk.

It's still funny though, injustice or not....

Oh yeah, absolutely hilarious.  The fact our bacon was saved at the expense of Falkirk and an Ian McCall led Partick was delightful.

With a record like that I can see why Partick Thistle we so aggrieved at their demotion last season!

Whilst I can't imagine Thistle's record over the same period makes for much better reading , none of our support are under any illusions how fortunate we were last season.  We won a watch no two ways about it.  Despite the media largely focussing on Hearts and Kelty I think Partick probably suffered the largest "injustice" out of everyone.

  5. People commenting on decisions based on what they think the rule should be rather than what it actually is has got to be the second most infuriating thing about football.  I blame the numerous pundits who make a living from doing exactly this.

Of course the most infuriating thing about football is watching Queens defend set pieces.  I wish I knew who to blame for that one.

It was the guys who were standing outside the ground at the fence. Would have been funny if it was someone inside the stadium 😄

I just assumed it was Aaron Muirhead.

14 games in total and 11 league games without a win.

For me, the “more positives than negatives” chat is like the old joke “Otherwise, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?” The negatives are so massive they significantly outweigh the positives. If you give the opposition 2 goals in every game, the good teams are going to add to that, leaving you having to score 4 or more to win.

It is the half arsed attitude that really gets on my tits. Standing around watching a player in the 6 yard box, like it is somebody else’s job to deal with it. It gives the impression that they don’t care about conceding goals. Maybe some of them don’t and they figure they will be in the team in any event. Then, once we’re in L1 they will naff off somewhere else.

Agreed. I’m certainly not taking solace from the fact “we’ll be alright once we sort the defence” given we’ve not been able to sort the defence for the past two seasons and we’ve not been alright in them!

  7. I thought in the main it was a very impressive showing and although you can't read too much into one game it gave a lot of cause for optimism.  Fitzpatrick looks to be the pick of the signings, his powerful direct running was at the forefront of everything good that we did.  Dobbie looks to still have it, not that I ever really doubted him, but I was a wee bit concerned what sort of shape he was going to be in after missing some of pre-season.  East and Shields look like being the right kind of foil for him both putting in a power of work, with the latter scoring a peach of a solo effort.  Big Obileye looks solid at the back, he won't lose much in the air over the course of the season but also looks comfortable with the ball on the deck.  I also liked the look of Maxwell, perhaps our run of top notch left backs will continue?

As far as negatives are concerned, the goals we conceded were hugely disappointing, as was losing the shootout after the amount of work we put into the game.  I also hope Wullie Gibson at right-back is just a stop gap.  He didn't make any glaring errors but St Mirren were always looking dangerous down his side.  It would be nice to get a specialist full back in as well as another centre-half or two.

Great effort all round from everyone players and media team.

My screen froze a few times sometimes for a couple of seconds and few times for 10-20 seconds. If it's my equipment how can I make sure it won't happen again (TV is new).

I wasn't expecting replays but that was great. Who were the commentators?

It's most likely just a blip in your internet connection at home.  Even large scale platforms such as YouTube and Netflix etc. suffer from the occasional "buffering" issue so if it's only a few seconds I don't think it would really indicate a problem as such.  If your TV has the facility to be cabled into your router rather than connected via wifi (I'm assuming that's how you were connected) that may improve things but it relies on your router being in a suitable location to do this, and you having an Ethernet cable.
