  1. Then of course immediately balanced that by devoting almost exactly the same amount of time to explaining why an absolutely routine 2-0 Liverpool win over a relegation candidate with a fraction of their budget for which the bookies would scarcely have given you odds demonstrates how incredible their manager and players are.
  2. I’ve made my feelings on the tackle itself clear in the match thread but that doesn’t impact on my affection for Craig Gordon as a man and certainly not as a goalkeeper. Wonderful talent, great servant to Hearts, Celtic and Scotland. With a little more luck with injuries I think people all over Europe if not the world would hold him in the same kind of regard we do in Scotland.
  3. At the risk of going on about something that turned out to be far from the most important outcome of the challenge, I fully expect a few fans to say “But he got the ball, so it’s ok” without really having a clue about the rules but for the var team and the ref to watch that back and decide it’s a fair challenge is mind boggling. These are the same refs who send guys off for tackles half that wild without getting within 3 yds of their opponent.
  4. Winning the ball is pretty much irrelevant when the challenge is dangerous / out of control.
  5. Really sorry for the guy, hopefully that’s not the case. He’s been a magnificent goalkeeper for 20+ years now and seems like a good guy with it all. But that is a penalty all day. Practically Harold Schumacher stuff, except the ball happens to hit his chest.
  6. What about a tweet containing the words “rock bottom” and a keeper getting busted wide open (to use the wrestling colloquialism) by a foreign object? 2/3 ain’t bad.
  7. Honestly, I took a while to get into the World Cup for a variety of reasons, but having watched that final and the quality of play generally the thought of watching Scottish football again just leaves me utterly cold. I haven’t been tempted for a moment to watch even the briefest highlights of any of the games since the restart. Just the thought of having absolutely mediocre Old Firm teams rammed down my throat by the media as though they’re anywhere near “decent” never mind “elite”… no thanks.
  8. Not gutted the games off to be honest. We need to get off to a flyer and an awkward away game on the plastic against a Livingston side who are horrible to play against at the best of times never mind on a freezing cold day just had “back to square one” written all over it.
  9. f**k, that’s terrible. Thanks for posting that, I hadn’t heard. He was a top guy.
  10. Am I right in saying you get suspended for red cards in friendlies?
  11. Davie Laing is honorary president, but doesn’t have much to do with the club these days, although he was there yesterday. He certainly doesn’t plough in money like he used to. When the facility was built he (apparently) wanted to do a lot more with it, for example add a large covered area but the council (who were to be the owners) refused to foot the bill. And since the council ultimately owned the facility, it wouldn’t have made sense to make significant improvements -hence all the portacabins. I believe the club have fairly recently taken possession of the facility from the council so hopefully they’ll do something with it.
  12. Further than even the mighty Blackburn Rovers (who were willing to sell him at a considerable loss after only 18 months) if some of the posters on here are to believed…
  13. So, his CV in England at a time when the league there was massively weaker than it is today reads Blackburn (!) Birmingham (!!) Blackpool (!!!) and Fleetwood (!!!!) but if he moved down there today he’d magically appear (as captain no less) at one of the top 5 clubs on the continent??? I’d love to see your working on that one.
  14. Doesn’t look like everyone’s quite ready to move on yet…
  15. Hearing a fairly wild rumour about a new signing for Lochee United. I’ll leave it at that for now…
  16. Me too, although this one doesn’t quite have the same lustre as most of the others due to the time of year and, y’know, widespread human rights abuses and things like that. I did consider boycotting it, but I think I’ve stumbled upon a happy compromise - I’ll watch the games, but as a protest against their infringement of civil liberties, I’ll drink heavily whilst doing so. They hate the booze, the Qataris. That’ll show ‘em.
  17. Must be something in the water down here in Carnoustie then…
  18. Similarly Sportsound touting Nicky Clark as the best signing of the season (and Shankland too, although there was less we could do about that one tbf)
  19. Heard McIntyre following Van Bronckhorst’s fairly passive interview. Tears & snotters. “An’ an’ an THAT for ME just sums up what we’ve seen from HIM and HIS TEAM in recent weeks!!!!”
  20. Settle an argument then - Who had the bigger dobber? Lion-O or Pantera? And another thing - given they were basically giant cats, not once did they spend an entire episode sitting around tonguing their own arse. Not exactly realistic.
