All this talk about players being tried once and being shite is a bit short sighted. Players like Burke and Harper have been thrown into a disorganised shambles to somehow change the fortunes of a very downbeat and negative team . This was always going to end badly . As was stated, now is the time to seriously start building a team around the younger players as our current campaign is now fucked. By seriously I would suggest giving more than just one player at a time a run of games . England have had to do it and they have stuck by the youngsters despite some very poor results. That is probably the sensible option but until Chesney either walks or has a dramatic change of mindset, this is never going to happen. I can see this current situation of monotonous negative failure continue till well into the next campaign with all the young prospects getting one game to prove themselves worthy of a sideways or backward pass to keep possession to try and keep the scores respectable. The likes of Gauld and Souttar are well advised to stay away from this soul destroying set up until someone has the balls to admit that Chesney is an over paid sheister just going through the motions and tells him to sling his hook along with his equally inept backroom staff.

United signed Harry when he was 12 or 13 (before his growth spurt ) . To still be there and knocking at the door of the first team , who have had 3 managers who all rate him , says it all really. People say his brother was bang average too , yet he holds down a first team place at Hearts.

It has to be said that he is being totally adult about his move to Portugal. He has been patient , he has worked on his fitness and stamina, listened to all the advice about playing a different style of football , learned to adapt to life in a foreign country, learned the language but most of all he hasn't thrown the toys out of the pram and given up like many before him. His time will come . Hopefully now he has caught the manager's eye and the hard work starts to pay off for him. I think he deserves it.

Ryan is one of those players who will play where he is asked. He is possibly too nice a guy to argue where he really feels comfortable. I didn't see the NI game but the Macedonia game just annoyed me seeing him playing quite an ineffective role. The coaching staff should know the strengths of each player and realise when they are being under utilised. It looked to me that too many players were just going through the motions that night which was maybe why Zbragia jacked it .

Maybe because they played him as sweeper in that game ?

Just a word of warning . In 1964 Rangers tried to implement the same kind of plan . They lobbied clubs to gain support to raise a motion to have 5 ( or 6) of the lowest placed and supported clubs removed from the league to enable more money to be allocated to the higher leagues. A lot of bribery and underhand deals were struck and it was only the battling determination and togetherness of the wee clubs which won through in the end. Legal judgements were passed at the time to ensure the same thing didn't happen again ............But here we have the same scenario developing it seems for much the same reasons. I only hope the lawyers are poised to kick this ridiculous idea into touch once and for all.

You ask, what is the point to smaller teams and do they contribute to the Scottish game ? Obviously you haven't thought this one through. Brechin City have recently given two up and coming managers the chance to cut their teeth in the senior game . One is now the Northern Ireland manager the other is at Dundee United. So yes I would say the smaller cubs definitely have a part to play on this evidence alone. Factor in the part they play in their communities , bringing youngsters into the game through boys clubs etc and you begin to see that the smaller clubs are a vital component.

Honestly, how can he come out with a statement like that when we didn't qualify in the first place ? He probably reads forums like this so it's no surprise and no coincidence that he would come out with a defensive statement to counter his previous negative ones . Quite frankly the guy has too much time on his hands ( especially at the moment ) and is desperate to justify his position and keep himself in the limelight. In hindsight I would imagine he wished he had said nothing .
