  1. Cracking humblebrag from yourself here Shando.
  2. Trump defending vaccines and China's education system this week. The face turn of all face turns is imminent.
  3. The regionalism down here and how it manifests is pretty funny. Yorkshire is by far the wildest with it being quite viciously divided into North, East, South and West and then everyone in West Yorkshire hating everyone else within West Yorkshire as well. Manchester probably does it best but I think that (as you call it) misplaced civic pride means artists and residents consider themselves more proud of their wee tinpot town than they do as Mancunians. The opposite of the so-called Weegiefication of Scottish culture up here. I also find modern Manchester artists don't make a thing of it the way Glaswegian artists do whether it's Lewis Capaldi or Limmy. I alluded to it but I met someone a fortnight ago who told me they were from Glasgow and when I asked where responded with Greenock. You ask someone from Stockport where they're from and they'll say Stockport. Same with Bury, Oldham and even Altrincham. ETA: I should add that not everyone does the above obvs. Have met people who are bizarrely proud of being from East Kilbride for example.
  4. Seeing the best band in Britain, Real Lies, again next month.
  5. I am calling for a total shutdown on anyone above 50 attempting to do patter on this site until we figure out what the hell is going on
  6. It’s literally commented upon by Savile himself in the Louis Theroux doc. The idea that some rando weirdo doing docs on the periphery of the culture is aware of it and those in power weren’t is mental.
  7. I plan on buying both eventually. Fancy trying to crack Returnal over a few months and everything I’ve heard about the game once it clicks sounds amazing. Disco Elysium is incredible. Fairly bog standard point and click on the surface but far and away one of the most well-written games ever made. The most I can say that a game feels like a novel. I haven’t cheered as much at a reveal as much as I have at a specific moment in the ending of that game. Kim Katsuragi also the only sidekick who’s actively made me a better PC while playing.
  8. Class how it was easier to buy it last year than this year
  9. My basis for Greenock being Glasgow is less about geography (that was my beef with these people) but more that I’ve had multiple people from various parts of our United Kingdom tell me they’re from Glasgow then say Greenock. Even Paisley residents haven’t done this. The Greenock boys on here are mostly sound but the folk you’ve sent out into the world have too much cringe for their place of birth.
  10. The guy could kill a wean on live TV and still get cheered in Manchester. He’s Bret Hart in Canada at this stage and fair play despite not being a fan he’s did the work.
  11. Took me moving to Manchester to learn that Salford is a different city to Manchester even though it clearly isn’t other than because a river separates the two. Even then I live on the Manchester side and pay Salford CT rates. A total mess and should be an acknowledgement it’s a suburb of Manc. You can’t give it to Paisley. It’s got Glasgow Airport, a suburb. Greenock could maybe have a shout if every single Greenock resident I’ve met outside of the west coast hasn’t told me they’re from Glasgow and got annoyed when I’ve said “that’s not Glasgow.”
  12. I think the people of Fife have taken enough of a slagging for being parochial mutants and they deserve something for that. On that basis you have St. Andrews and Dunfermline and we should be acknowledging the ancient capital and, I hope, Yes voting town over the dumping ground for failed aristocrats who couldn’t get into Oxbridge.
  13. Beyond some platitudes, speeches, and token legislation they haven't done any "IndyRef2 shite" lol. That's part of the issue with the current party.
  14. They think the costs are worth it They were too busy wokeing from home
  15. That article GHB linked to points out that this isn't happening and that Disney especially are monopolising culture.
  16. I feel like there's been at least three Mail front pages blaming wfh civil servants for British personnel dying during the evacuation. I definitely saw one a couple of weeks ago.
  17. Granny Danger voted unthinkingly for one party all his life then switched to another to do the same thing and thinks this radical decision gives him a right to lecture everyone else. A waste of time with nothing insightful or original to offer.
  18. It really wouldn’t because the problem with Scottish Labour goes far deeper than their line on independence. It also won’t happen because the people who would’ve taken a softer line were soundly defeated in the leadership elections.
  19. It's not a great movie by any means but it's fine for what it is and that's cause they had a superb director in Alfonso Cuaron.
  20. I think the SNP support and are striving for independence I just think they haven't fully comprehended that the nature of politics has changed in the UK and I don't think they have the stomach or understanding of how they get independence.
  21. Most people aren't going to make a substantial effort to get into a football team and the pull of Rangers and Celtic, fairly or unfairly, is much greater than anyone's local team outside of a few specific examples. I gave up supporting Dunfermline after about 2 years living away from Fife because I had zero remaining connection to the area and the cost of supporting far outstripped any enjoyment I got.
  22. Ofc I’m not asking in good faith because you’re doing a barely concealed stereotypical dog whistle and as expected when challenged on it have utterly shat the bed. If you were creative or honest about it then you might get a good discussion. I think the argument over what makes up the best family unit is missing the forest for the trees because what most assures a child will be brought up well is economic security and an ability for people to spend time with their kids. Two things which have been repeatedly undermined by 40 years of neoliberalism forcing everyone to work longer hours for less pay.
  23. And I’ve said it wasn’t an acceptable answer and it looks like no one else thinks it is either. What’s your question?
