  1. There's too much pressure to have a good time around this time of year so I've sympathy for anyone who struggles to get into the spirit. I've taken a step back and just allowed plans to fall into place that I can cancel on without making ruining anyone else's evening. I have a mad one planned for NYD at Pressure then I'm packing in the nights out for as long as I can to focus on just getting into a settled daily routine that's healthy and productive.
  2. Imagine being those weans and having to postpone your present opening in the faint hope of seeing a senile old racist. Wild stuff. Couldn't they just wait till their grandparents come round for dinner?
  3. The Tory party continuing to own Nick Clegg in his political afterlife.
  4. "Hello friends..." Lost in the Sauce with Patton Oswalt was my favourite ep on the Soundcloud. The Patreon stuff is brilliant especially the movie reviews, the 300 review and Snyder's dual obsession with fascism and dicks was so funny. I do like Virgil Texas although he talks a lot less than the rest but they're all really good. Cumtown is kinda similar humour but much less focus on politics. It took me a while to catch the vibe but Adam Friedland's brilliant anywhere else I've listened to him so it's worth sticking with.
  5. Velveteen Dream coming back to save his buddy Aliester Black as well (please for the love of god let this happen)
  6. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/12/28/us/politics/trump-interview-excerpts.html?referer=https://www-vox-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/policy-and-politics/2017/12/29/16829806/trump-interview-new-york-times?amp_js_v=0.1&usqp=mq331AQECAEYAQ%3D%3D Fair play to him it's literally the first time I've ever wanted to read a full interview with a president. Psychotic stuff.
  7. I think Northern Ireland being a settler state founded and maintained by a colonialist British state, with a large degree of Scottish involvement, is probably why Corbyn and a lot of other UK leftists want a united Ireland but are significantly cooler on an independent Scotland. It's not my view but I understand the point.
  8. The queue for EU passengers is normally way way shorter than the non-EU queue.
  9. Been listening to a lot of Chapo Trap House and Cumtown recently.
  10. They're all luvvies jockeying for a commentariat position in a post-indy Scotland. I don't think any of them are particularly insightful or offer anything groundbreaking. Then again, neither does the vast majority of the commentariat at a UK wide level.
  11. Was bang into this. Could just imagine Johnson logging on to the forums, reading all the obsessive theorising and actively aiming to piss off all the nerds. As for the statements about the force, I replayed Knights of the Old Republic 2 recently and they've definitely taken some pointers from that game which is still by far the most interesting Star Wars thing I've ever seen.
  12. Imagine your entire schtick being about how authentically working class you are and you don't know the biggest insult flung about when you were a wean.
  13. lol forgot about Loki. c**t acts like he's straight out of a Dickens novel set in Glasgow's east end but he doesn't know what a VL is. Fraud.
  14. You're not some lone ranger calling out hypocrisy and abuse from the left, you're just some bore that comes on here periodically and gets ragdolled before pissing off for a week.
  15. There was a literally a story this week about the British govt "losing" archives. It's a deliberate tactic.
  16. oaksoft's solution to the abuse of statistics is to rely on his blind instincts so I'm not sure anyone should be following that lead.
  17. The union of the Crowns had already placed long term unification of the British Isles in motion and aye of course the English had largely saw to it that Scotland couldn't have functioned on as an independent nation hence why the Scots in that period were looking at unions not only with England but France and the United Provinces. We had good relations and trading links but we were increasingly having to face up to the reality of economic protectionism which was shutting the Scots out of the markets and pushing Scottish traders into smuggling before 1707 which I think Devine talks about. On the actual terms of the Act of Union, Scotland could've easily been subsumed within England and ceased to exist as any form of separate entity but as it stood Scotland continued to exist with its own legal system and religion that was largely free of interference and the 18th century at least showed a large measure of administrative independence which was better than a lot of polities in Europe at the time. I don't think your bit about Norway necessarily contradicts what I'm saying? It's not the fault of a 1707 parliament if the post-45 government in Westminster failed to effectively utilise the oil boom that we had in Scotland, those in 1707 could hardly look 270 years in the future and foresee Scotland discovering oil and I think that's reflected somewhat to the lack of any substantial independence movement before the 1970s.
  18. I find the demand for absolute independence to be a bit daft and the stuff of the 19th century or something tbh. The world's interconnected now and the Tories attempt to obliterate workers rights in a post-Brexit blitz shows that the politicians closer to home don't necessarily care more for you.
  19. Estrella and Innis & Gunn are probably the tip top of what you can expect to get in most decent pubs around here but if I'm out with the lads and don't want to come across as a flash c**t I'll order a T and enjoy the comfort it brings.
