He left because he had the same clause as most of the team where he either took a wage cut or he was free to leave. He chose to leave. Wouldn't have wanted him to stay. Somehow he managed 100+ appearances for the club despite not being particularly great at anything except being incredibly fit and being able to run and run. He doesn't create or score enough to play further forward and definitely isn't a defensive midfielder either.
