Only a week of the season left and the good news is that most of the team and management will also be out of contract.
The player situation is pleasing but the board need to decide (hopefully before the end of May) if Gus is the man to lead us forward
He has been poor in the first, will he be any better in the second?

What a load of rubbish on our official site tonight.
Apparently if Ayr win one more match then we are destined for division 2.. Now while that may prove to be the case it isn't factually correct as things stand. If Ayr take 3 points and we take 6 (pretty unlikely I know) we in all probability would finish 9th.
The same article also claims that Raith's victory last week secures their first division status. Again not true as things stand.
Really poor.
DD I think it puts a positive spin on the inevitable. The result on Saturday consigned us to relegation, it really is as simple as that. I would fancy teams in the the Dumfries Saturday amatuer league to do better than Queens against Raith and County in the next two games. Too many of our players simply do not have the balls to win the next two games on the trot.
I have resigned myself to this fact a long time ago.
No, I will be pleased when the vast majority f**k off in the summer and we get players in that want to win the (2nd Division) league.

On a cheerier note, remember that Queens youths are playing Celtic in the Youth Cup Final tonight. Seems like the future is not all gloom.

I won't be back until Gus is gone. We need a McInnes or Pressley type manager - young and ambitious, not another journeyman like Calderwood. I'd give Johnston a shot.
That's fair enough, albeit not all young managers get it right. Look at Gough at Livi, Brown at Clyde. You can even add Lambert at Livi to that.
However, I take your point. Johnston would probably be the obvious choice if we were going down that route. Or perhaps we could try and steal Hartley from Alloa.
If we need a new manager I would be happy enough with any of Johnston, Hartley or Calderwood.

An embarrassing home defeat to Livi sticks the penultimate nail in our coffin. It is probably best looking forward to next season now
Whilst I don't want an entirely new team for next season, there are not many I would keep.
If we are wanting to win the league next season we will need players with some fire in their belly. As it stands, only Robinson, Johnston, Parkin and Carmichael would remain for me.
As for the management team, well ultimately they have failed. I hear Jimmy Calderwood will be free at the end of the season. He might be worth a punt.

Gavin Reilly maybe but not sure if he played for the 17s that won the League cup, that was the Degnan, Smillie, McShane, Black age group.
Ah, the league cup. I think a few of that team also won the school's Scottish Cup with Dumfries Academy, round about that time as well.

Great to see the youths doing so well. I seem to remember the u17's winning the Scottish Cup a couple of years ago. I wonder if many of the boys from that team were in the Squad the other night?

I would like to thank our good friends from Greenock, as they have kindly donated us 8 points from a possible 12 this season. Two wins at Palmerston and two draws at Cappielow mark them down as good guys in my book.

Oh well, ten years of 1st Division football are almost at an end, but what are your highs and lows over that time? We have handed out a few doings and the one that springs to mind for me was the home match against top of the league Livi (2007?). A 6-1 spanking was dished out as we jumped above them. The 4-0 thumping of Morton in Greenock last season still raises a smile and Stranraer collapsing in 2005/6 and saving us was heart warming too.
As for the lows, ultimately most of them have been this season, albeit you can also look at the reigns of Scott and McCall, even Chisholm had a sticky patch. Remember the season after the cup final when we went about three months without a win? That was a team that should have challenged for the league.
There was of course the Gretna season and we were on the receiving end of a few pumpings from them which was hard to take. However, the 3-0 win at Raydale when I think everyone in the town had Queens on for a win that day, at something like 7-1 was good. We also benefited from their gallactico policy when they went tits up so it wasn't all bad.
Then of course there are the players we had Dobbie, Harris, Tosh etc. All brilliant players the like we will be lucky to see again in a Queens shirt.
The ultimate feel good factor during our stay was of course the Cup run and the brief European jaunt. Everyone knew it was something unlikely to happen to us again and we lapped it up.
It is the end of an era for us and next season it will be Dumbarton and Brechin. Whilst it feels bad at the moment come August I'm sure we will be ready for the new season and hopefully a title challenge. If not we will always have Copenhagen!

John Hughes. Maybe he'd have brought in some players that weren't scared to go into opposition territory.
I'm sure he was still holding out for a job in England at the time. Clearly the lack of interest from down south has forced him to review the situation. Anyway, the appointment of Gus was welcomed by the majority of Queens fans and to be honest I think we need a bit of managerial stability rather than changing again.

Who do we think would do doing a better job given the current budget constraints?
As it happens I would expect us to be one of the favourites to come straight back up if we did go down. Ayr (twice),Stirling and Cowdenbeath have been promoted with with squads of a similar/poorer quality to ours. That said, I think we will stay up and I am happy to give Gus another shot.

Literally tripped over an old Queens prog in the loft the other day .Picked it up and started reading . It was the Palmerston Scottish Cup game from 1985 against Dundee Utd . The United squad was something else McAlpine , Narey , Milne , Sturrock , Bannon , Dodds , Kirkwood and others .This must be one of the finest - if not the best - opposition side I have seen at Palmerston. I remember Pat McCluskey had a great game for us as we went down 3-0. Anyone else have reminisces of this game ?
I remember this one too and I'm sure Milne ran us ragged. We got our picture taken with Jim McLean and Maurice Malpas after the game. They spent 10 minutes or so talking away to us before they boarded the bus back up the road. Good guys.
I think we also played them at Palmerston a season or two later and the beat us 2-1 in the Skol Cup. George Cloy brought it back to 1-1 with a penalty with 10 minutes to play but they scored at the death.

If the board are desperate to stay up then they must make a decision about the boss soon. We have a run of games coming up against the teams around us in the league and if we don't get a decent return from them we're done for. After today my confidence in us getting enough points together to stay up has pretty much gone. The only problem would be finding a manager able to get an instant response out of the players.
I'm surprised there is talk of McGlynn getting the sack. Ultimately, Raith like Queens have had to make big cuts in their budget and that has taken its toll.

Now hold on a minute , I have just had to pick myself up from the floor after reading this. This rodgering must have affected you big time . Also , have just read that you think football success is cyclical as well . Well, we can see a demise but not any relative success. Please tell me that you are not counting beating East Stirling and Albion as the glory years . This `spin` is so skewed that New Labour might even be embarrased about it . Have you even finished above Qos in recent years ?
VT wasn't around in Morton's glory days. Infact I doubt he is old enough to remember the last time they were in the Premier League as it was known. Therefore it is very surprising that he harks back to days that he has no recollection of.
VT's reality (like most of us) should be coloured by the mundane fayre of the third, second and first divisions. However, he seems to be completely seduced by a bygone era and oblivious to the fact that those days are long gone and unlikely to be repeated. Still a pig-headed, unwillingness to face facts never hurt anyone did it?

I think I've made it pretty clear that I know absolutely nothing... about anything really.
I take it from other posts however that you're suggesting that Willie Gibson's coming in?
If true, that would be quite exciting. I wasn't his biggest fan first time round, but he became much better after leaving and he could make a difference for us, despite the fact that his career has gone off the boil somewhat just lately.
What would others think?
I think he would be a good addition if it was true.
