  1. Remind me how much Celtic offered for James McCarthy.

Oh hang on, I remember now - but were they salted or dry roasted?

    And finally....FTOF.

I am under the impression Hamilton also made us a derisory offer or two over the years. For Craig Bryson I think, when you were challenging for the title. Possibly Malone too?

Anyway, has there actually been any developments yet? I think I've lost track.

  2. Have you ever read her problem pages? She likes to come across as a man hating old spinster, man has an affair he's a c*nt and needs castrating, woman has an affair then she needs comforting because her man treated her so badly. Excellent stuff for passing the time, I'd love to shake the bloke's hand that turned the old witch so bitter.

She's also missing the point that if Rangers were to disappear entirely - it will create an enormous change in this country's social affairs. Whether it stops mass sectarianism I don't know, but the vehicle disappearing would do something.

  3. The SPL better think about this very VERY carefully.

If they want their credibility to go down the swanney - they are absolutely going the right way about it, and I hope the people that have said they will be done with Scottish Football (or at least the clubs that allow themselves to be anally penetrated by the bluenoses) actually follow through with the threat should Rangers get off with their cheating.

  4. To write off his entire work as bullshit would be unfair

The key thing to remember about Neitzche is that he lost his virginity to a whore at University and in the process caught syphylis which eventually sent him mad and killed him. Which explains a lot of the more mysoginist, dark and demented bits of his work

As an ancient Oriental philospher* once said "Genius is twin brother of Madness, sometimes one mistaken for other" Neitzche started off as one and finished as the other. He may have been both for a while. People who quote him as an authority without stopping to think whether he may have had his pants on his head at the time still deserve our mistrust.

    * Charlie Chan the Chinese Detective "Charlie Chan at the Opera" 20th Century Fox, 1936

The stuff I read didn't even have paragraphs, whether that was the translator or him - I don't know. I can't even remember what it was about, I just remember it getting on my wick - was probably hermeneutics or something.

In any case, this is miles off topic - are Rangers dead yet? Have Spartans been elected to SFL3?

  5. The nutter who is oberfuhrer of Rangersmedia has surpassed himself today. Quoting the syphylitic loony Nietchze who inspired the Nazi party, he raves:

    My link

If he looked a bit further into Freddie's writings he might have found this:

I had to read Nietzsche for uni, and as a result gained an immediate distrust for anyone who quotes him. It was total bullshit.

A bit surprised to see Ranger's cretin's going for it - but it makes sense - they just see the word philosophy and think "ooooh, that'll make us sound clever".

Of course Nietzsche did have a brief footballing career, but he got booked for his wankery.

  6. Two things that are annoying me right now:

Instagram. While I quite like the app, it's making a whole bunch of folk who apply a filter to a poorly-taken picture think they're Kevin fucking Carter or something.

These pictures posted by folk who seem to have thousands of followers saying "like this if..." and then, down the comments, "subscribe to me and I'll share you for thousands of friend requests". What the f**k's going on with those?

    Oh god, instagram...

    facepalm.jpg

  7. I really hope the views of the rest of Scotland get taken on board if Rangers do appeal this - the way that it's being covered, even on the BBC website it shows the Rangers fans outrage without showing this very common - "serve's them right, when's the funeral? Where are my tap shoes?" attitude.

I look forward to the visit of Spartans to Broadwood next season.

Also, about Cosgrove giving a view which echoes that, he is a P&B member, I have no idea who he is (I believe it's a state secret) but I'm not surprised he's of the "no to newco" school of thought.

  8. I literally can't find anything from Rangers fans on my feed, I checked the guy who is normally the worst for this pish and he hasn't said anything about the Rangers administration since 13th April when he said "f**k the SPL" - which got 9 likes.

I replied "That's what the rest of Scottish Football has been thinking for years. Lets just hope that common sense prevails and that when you guys liquidate your newco have to apply to division 3, only to get beaten by Spartans on the grounds of a greater history."

That got 5 (4 from people I'm not friends on facebook with), and nobody replied. He's said nothing since, other than something about Jelavic not getting found out - which in fairness, he hasn't. "Don't do walking away" you say?

Other than that c**t, I obviously have chosen my friends reasonably well.

  9. Do they still do "home made" pizzas? I remember you used to get a massive one for about £2 (this was the 1990s!) Great value.

Yes, margherita ones are £3, rest are £3.75 I think, don't know about a haggis one though buddie06smfc - they did go downhill for a while but they've improved again I think they got a better oven for them.

Sometimes they f**k them up a bit - but thats the risk with homemade from a student union!

  10. Trouble with a first floor room methinks.

About the third day I was there I had my window open as it was sunny and warm, but had my curtains closed. I went out to go to the toilet, can't have been gone more than a minute, opened my door and this security woman had her head poking through my curtains, on a walkie-talkie reading out my address before I heard my name coming from the other end of the walkie-talkie.

I asked her what the hell she was doing with her head poking through my window and she started lecturing me on the dangers of having a window open. I told her that I was only gone for a minute and she asked 'Is a minute longer than 19 seconds?' I said yes and she then explained that they have timed it and it only takes a thief 19 seconds to go into a room, steal a laptop, and get out again.

The next day I had my window open again, and was just lying in my bed with my eyes closed. Suddenly there was a slam at my window and a different security guard was looming down at me and again started criticising me for having my window open. I said 'But I was in my room' and he then started saying how there was once a 17 year old girl who was sleeping with her window open and a man came in and raped her.

Weirdest lecture I've ever had at uni.

Ah, I was is a first floor room, I'm assuming by first floor, you mean ground floor if wardens were poking their heads in.

Smoke alarms were the bigger issue I found, although our flat didn't set ours off once hypocrite.gif

  11. Still somewhat disappointed he didn't win. I remember him walking up to me and my mate during the election and asking us if we'd voted, we said 'no' and he announced he was running. We asked him what he was running for and couldn't help but burst out laughing when he announced it was for president.

In fact thinking about it I'm kind of surprised he didn't win. Considering most folk who vote for these things would be pretty unaware of the on-goings of the SRC surely a lot of folk base their votes on thinks like an amusing manifesto or a funny picture. What else do people have to go on?

In fairness, alot of people were worried given the Ritchie debacle and just wanted someone in to sort out the mess a little - I actually voted for Helle, who actually somehow finished behind Chizzy. The socialists were obviously out in force since Dhillon finished 2nd.

Having lived in Stirling's halls and Glasgow's halls I'd say Stirling's are better.

More fun, better location and no security guards checking your room constantly for the heinous crime of having your window open. mad.gif

Whit? That never happened to me when I was there!

  12. Perhaps it's just because I spend most of my time either at the GUU or in the Law Building, but I can honestly say I hardly ever see the lefties any more. I don't even remember having heard of this Our Glasgow lot.

I'm certain they didn't win any of the contested seats. They did get the gender equality officer I think, that was unopposed though.

A guy I have spoken to a couple of times from OurGlasgow was running for College of Arts convenor, why would I want an anti-cuts mentalist representing my college! I want someone representing the people in the college!

  13. I didn't pay much attention to the SRC elections. Did that piss take win the presidential? His manifesto was quite funny.

I'd be surprised if any non-SRC elections at Glasgow were "political" per se.

The only noticeable political activity you have at Glasgow is the plethora of Marxist and anti-cuts posters that people spam the campus with. The SWP don't even seem to have their stall up much these days any more and the Hetherington crew being gone has seen all that die down. Mainstream politics on an organised level is pretty much absent.

The bit in bold is very interesting. There's virtually nothing by way of genuine party-political activity at Glasgow beyond the Lib Dems, SNP and Tories having stalls at the Fresher's Fair. Student politics at Glasgow operates in its own vacuum to an extent.

Really? I find the socialists to be incredibly noisy at Glasgow. There were alot of candidates from the "OurGlasgow" campaign, I don't know much about htem, but they seem like the mad anti-cuts end of the socialists.

Chizzy didn't win, I chickened out of voting for him, but I didn't realise he finished 3rd. Please tell me he beat Dhillon, that would be exceptionally pleasing!

    This was his genuine manifesto.

Lyk a day quine/voter my name is Christopher ‘That’s Chizzy’ Chisholm and I have a vision, please humour me for 300 words. There’s been a lot of gassing about who should your next SRC President, well look no further, it’s me it’s Chip-pe, coming at you from all angles.

Following the Stuart Ritchie debacle of 2011, it’s clear the SRC needs to be more transparent. In order to achieve this I pledge that I will see the John Mac Building torn down and rebuilt entirely out of glass.

I will spend at least one working day of each week listening to the concerns of students directly. I will do this mostly by hiding in bushes near where they’re having conversations.

Re-open the Joesph Black Mines to give students jobs.

I will build stairs or a slide to the Rennie Mackintosh door on library hill.

Since the Main Building looks like Hogwarts anyway I will replace MyCampus by buying 24,000 carrier owls, and implement the Sorting Hat to pick every students’ course at the beginning of first year.

All of the catering faculties will be replaced with Maggies vans, and Maggie will be installed as my first lady.

I will pledge to keep the library open 25 hours a day and make the announcement lady even louder.

I will turn the 12th floor of the library into a petting zoo.

I will give everyone a 2:1, even those who have achieved 1st’s.

University Avenue will be transformed into a canal, SRC buses will be replaced with party gondolas.

I will occasionally send emails to students to ‘switch places’, which will mean students must change faculty until further notice.

I will live with wolves for 3 months to get acclimatized to Council meetings.

  14. Something about the old firm... even the artsy types who align themselves to one of the bigot brothers can't help but allow the paranoia to flow.

Some posts from a normally quite articulate, reasonably intelligent Celtic fan over the last couple of days.

McCabe was playing against nine men, feck sake I could look like Iniesta against that many players as long as I keep the ball moving. First one was never a sending off, particularly in an Old Firm game. Your lot still conceded two goals to nine men, if a team is playing nine men then not one of them should have a yard of space on the park, Celtic were coming into the game and piling on pressure before the sending off, it ruined the game.

Bocanegra's was a red, here's why, it was a clear goalscoring opportunity, at Cha's one Wallace is heading away from goal, the keeper is coming out, if he turns inside Mulgrew is there, it is not a clear goalscoring opportunity. Also Bocanegra scythed Samaras down as opposed to the most minuscule of tugs from Cha. Having said that it was stupid to give the ref any chance to do us as he was always going to, we were never going to be allowed a fair playing field on a day like that at Ibrox, we had Rangers under some real pressure with two decent attempts on goal and a counter-attack led to the sending off. Wallace was also well offside at Little's goal so I think all Celtic fans are entitled to feel that the ref cost us the game. Rangers played well, Aluko's goal was brilliant. But Celtic were showing they had enough to come back and win the game, before Wanyama's red I thought we would still get a draw out of the game. And if that was a red then Whittaker should have also been sent off for his challenge.

The level of contact has nothing to do with it, it's denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Therefore it is a red card. Cha's red was not denying a clear goalscoring opportunity as wallace was running away from goal, there was cover and Forster was probably going to get to the ball first anyway. What Celtic's early chances tell you is that they were settling back into the game, and even with nine men we had enough to score two, think of what eleven would have done, with the options we could bring on from the bench. Calum Murray: Rangers' MOTM.

Oh FFS. Better team one? You are the one's who'll be deluded then. Sone Aluko had one good moment all game, it's a great goal fair play. In case you didn't notice Samaras almost did the same thing minutes later. In fact, two great saves and a glaring miss from Stokes stopped you from falling behind before the sending off, with the options Celtic have on the bench I don't think even the most ardent Rangers fan would argue you would have one that game had it stayed eleven vs eleven.

Cha's sending off is not a sending off, this is the last time I'll say this. By the letter of the law, it has to be a clear goalscoring opportunity, being last man doesn't even come into it, Forster and Mulgrew are covering, Wallace doesn't have the ball under control, he's running away from the goal. Cha has barely touched him. Murray saw a chance to kill a potential powder keg of an old firm game in Glasgow had Celtic won, and he took it. Wanyama's red I think is dubious, I can at least see why it was given, but if you want to hark back to the winter old firm game then what about Healy's challenge on Forrest or McCulloch's on Kayal? Both were far worse than Wanyama's challenge and only one even received a booking, so don't even start. If anything then Whittaker should also have been sent off when you consider he was the only one in that challenge with his studs off the ground (you will notice they hit Wanyama's shins.

Two meaningless goals, if you have eleven on nine not one of the nine should even have three yards of space, to me that shows you would not have coped with eleven, particularly the way Celtic were keeping the ball when we created our chances.

Your second goal, the one that sealed the game, was offside. In fact it was at least a yard and a half onside.

The same linesman wrongly flagged Stokes offside when he was clean through.

Whittaker also grappled Ledley to the ground by the neck in the penalty box.

Can't handle the big occasion? Aye, That'll explain why Lennon's Celtic has won five old firm games, and come away with two draws at Ibrox. Drew away against Udinese and Rennes who are both doing well in their respective leagues. Came back from 15 points behind to go two points in front before New Year i.e. before Jelavic was sold and administration. And has managed to hit four or more at what I would consider to be the hardest away days besides Ibrox (Tynecastle, Easter Road and Tannadice).

Compare that to Rangers who have been dumped out of every competition at the first hurdle this season with the exception of beating the mighty... Arbroath.

Lennon's the embarrassment? Don't even bother with that argument, I don't think anyone in football has ever succumbed to the pressures he has come under. Both for his own, his familys' and his players' safety. But yet we should all fell sorry for the bold and noble Ally McCoist and what a difficult job he has had? It's him who is the embarrassment, complaining about lack of revenue and personnel when it was losses to Malmo and Maribor that denied Rangers of what could have been crucial revenue. I, like the majority of other Celtic fans, am delighted with Lennon, he has brought the team lightyears ahead considering who he succeeded. He is a Celtic man who calls it as he sees it and isn't concerned with meeting the standards of 'dignity' called for from a club who have been sending out can collector's when everybody knows it will make no difference, and whose fans have even called for the Parliament and the Queen to save their club... Some 'dignity'.

This is the last thing I'll say, do you know what you should be most embarrassed by? That crass 'WATP' stance. What do you think it even means? Take it out of the context of your club for a second, it's the kind of thing you would hear at an EDL rally, yet it is your battle cry. Your fans revel in shouting 'paedophiles' and 'child molesters' at others as a form of point-scoring. Point-scoring with that? Pathetic. Some of us want to move on.

Nevertheless I hope you all enjoyed the game, and your weekends. Enjoy what's left of your club while it lasts for no one will shed a tear when the tax-bill hits.

There was some fuckwittery from Rangers fans over the course of this conversation, but nothing in the same league as this.

edited after poor word choice was highlighted before - artistic types are often full of absolute w**k - usually about politics and the meaning of life rather than a red card, but it's w**k none the less.

  15. I just find the QMU to be a bit more relaxed, whilst the GUU seems more about this 'lad' culture. The rugby team themselves might be banned but last couple of times I've been in most the folk there seem to be rugby types, plus the QM has a picture of the Aberdeen CWC win.

That's a very good point, it really is much MUCH more relaxed.

  16. I went to a private school and I can't recall anyone I ever interacted with having that sort of accent.

QMUers are closer to the parody.

Likewise. It's not a private school thing. Most of those I hear use it didn't go to private school.

Porbably my grammar at fault there I was asking if it's that the "GU accent" or is it the generic private school (boarding school might be closer to the truth to be honest) accent which definitely exists, it's not the same one as that though.

I find the GUU level of banter goes from toffish debating to laddish knobbery without any intermediate phase. If they hadn't banned the rugby team it would be unbearable. I like neither debating nor spewing. Any institution which runs something like the Iron Stoumach I am instantly a bit repulsed by.

The QMU I find is pretty accommodating to whatever you want, the pool tables are in better nick, champions bar actually has natural light and the place is just a bit less grotty in general and there are less knobs. Many an afternoon has been wasted on the pool tables there.

The only reason I ever go to the GU nowadays is to play snooker on the top floor.

  17. People massively overplay it. There are those who have said accent, but they are a minority and they are almost entirely confined to the Queen Margaret Union.

I'm not even sure what people mean by the Glasgow Uni accent - is it this?

or is it just the generic private school accent. That's not something that happens at Glasgow Uni, it's just a demographic thing.

If it's the one Franscesca is parodying (is that a word? it should be) then I've found it to be just as prevalent at the GUU.
