  1. They cancelled it alongside music and sociology. Engineering is hopefully next.

Allegedly Strathclyde's music professors did f**k all!

Got to love the snobbery towards music these days though. How times have changed*! laugh.gif

*Nothing has changed at the RCS, apart from the name.

  2. Woke up 7:50, showered, half dressed, eat my coco pops, iron my shirt, take the dog out, in and clean my teeth then Standing at the bus stop ready at 8:30.

Never knew I could move that fast.

Seriously... 40 minutes... thats not quick blink.gif

Lots of people moaning about the blackberry meltdown too.

However someone posted a link to this... genius.

  3. nah, blackfriars, i did come close to staying in buchanan view though

yeah, the first guy i met said they were nice. that is all the information i have managed to compile about the people i am living with.

    maybe i'm the ghost

    laugh.gif

Do you write your name on your food? Do you eat dinner in your room? In that case you are defo a ghost. tongue.gif

  4. yeah, i was really late in confirming my booking, but with unite you can log in and see the profiles of the people you stay with, and all 5 rooms are definitely occupied.

i don't know whether to keep it going as it is and rely on a chance meeting or just knock on their doors at a fairly unsociable hour and hope my excellent patter can win them over

That is strange. Alot of flats have one ghost, never heard of one with two ghosts though!

The flatmates you have found met them?

  5. i've spent about a week in my halls and have yet to meet 2 of my flatmates. this isn't even down to a lack of effort on my part, every time i knock on their doors they're not in. i even hung about during a fire alarm so that i could try and intercept them, but still nothing. they will meet me one day whether they like it or not.

Stupid question, but are you sure they're actually occupied?

  6. If you pick your uni purely based on its ranking, then you probably don't deserve to go to uni.

I had an offer from a place ranked higher than where I went, but the course didn't suit me as well.

Also, I still have my school leavers hoodieph34r.gif. Don't wear it very often right enough but I'd rather bite the bullet and wear it than buy another one. It is incredibly warm though biggrin.gif

  7. Manchester Orchestra on Monday :)

Gutted I can't afford Seasick Steve next week. Gone are the days when you could go to gigs and spend under £20

Theres a pretty decent Australian band called Cloud Control playing Oran Mor pretty soon and I think the tickets are like £7.

Saw them at King Tuts a while back after winning a guestlist spot at a pub quiz, they were good.

edit - sorry ignore me, it was actually tonight! ph34r.gif Guess I won't be going then.

  8. Its easy to forget at uni that the people there are basically the equivalent of the smartest people at their schools, and when I look back to the smartest people at my school (except me 8)) a lot of them were a bit, well, weird. Sometimes you have to stop yourself and think 'wait, would I have given this guy the time of day if I he had been at my school, or would I have thought he was a nutjob?'.

Meh, with the proportion of kids that go to uni nowadays you get all flavours of sound people, legends and wankers.

And don't worry, these twats are widely ignored by pretty much everyone.

  9. New one that has appeared

    - we all want a new car, a new phone. A person who has cancer only wants one thing....to survive. I know that a lot of you "who think you're too cool" probably won't re-post this and only some of my friends will, but please put this on your wall in honor of someone who died of cancer, survived or who is fighting against it now♥

I normally seem to avoid all this crap on my wall, but theres been about 5 of these.

I feel like commenting "Give some money then you stupid bitch." but I probably won't.

Some twat I was at school with is now getting ridiculously involved with a campaign to "save" Abertay, she posted on the GUU's wall trying to drum up support. She's at Stirling uni. I think much like most of the people the occupied the Hetherington, she just wants something to protest about.

edit - she's an NUS type. Explain exerything.

  10. My timetable sees me in 2-3 on Monday, off Tuesday and Wednesday, 9-11 and 2-3 on Thursday and 1-2 and a TBA tutorial on a Friday, possibly a workshop too but I don't know what the score is with that, it would only be half the semester anyway.

    So that's 6 (maybe 7) hours across 3 days. laugh.gif

  11. I was looking to find out when my first loan payment would be, but I haven't received the schedule, only the letter saying that I was getting the loan. It's dated the 23rd of June but it says that I would receive the schedule within 14 days on my course starting. I start in about 12 days. I'm not that anxious but is there anyway online that I can find out? I had a wee hunt around SAAS but the website is pretty poor.

edit: unless anyone from Strathclyde can tell me when their's starts(assuming it's the same for all students of the same uni)

In my experience it tends to be around the first day of freshers week the payment, whatever that happens to be at Strathy. I don't think there is anything on the website to help with this because the SLC do some/all of it depending on circumstances.

  12. Anyone been to King Tuts before?

Going on Wednesday to see The Wonder Year and want to know what is Tuts like?

Tiny, the gig I was at didn't even have a barrier, but I think most gigs will. Really low ceiling too. Cracking wee intimate venue.

Will be playing there in November, which I am very excited about.

  13. SAAS's offices it turns out are indeed set up for student visitors. I got a ticket number, was called within 90 seconds (that was a bit lucky, numbers 18-24 were nowhere to be seen, I was 25 - about 8 people showed up and were waiting while I was there and none had been called by the time I left) and was out of the building with everything corrected within 15 minutes.

    Phoning is for fuds.

  14. I saw this on your facebook, but I can only strongly advise you to not go. Everyone is having trouble with SAAS, and assuming you get the train it will cost you about £17. Once you get there I don't think they have a walk in service so I can't see you getting anywhere.

Unless you need the funding urgently I'd just wade it out like everyone else.

I think I'm in the same position, they say an award letter has been sent out, and it has, but it only says they will pay my fees. I think I need to send them pay information for my parent because of the change in circumstances before I get my bursary.

But do you scan it or photo copy and post it? I would ask SAAS but...you know.

Would probably drive (assume your referring to crash by assuming train - that's been sorted) and even so, from Stirling train fares are only about £5 - don't know where you got £17 from, even from Glasgow!

I've heard of people going and causing a fuss - and yes - I do need the funding fairly desparately.

  15. Ooft, any idea when my first payment would be if thats the case? Going to Liechtenstein/Spain and was hoping to top up the spends with some loan/bursary dosh.

As soon as its processed I'd imagine

I remember SAAS announced there was a final day for applications to be processed in time for the start of uni. Anyone else apply on this very last day? I've still not heard anything and i'll be away on exchange before my course in Aberdeen even starts.

I applied one day before that deadline this year, and I've got my initial award notice, but I need the evidence processed to get anything even faintly useful.

  16. Ive actually already been at Glasgow part time for the last year so I know my way about the place, just cant seem to get any joy out of SAAS at all. At the moment all it says is that my "application is in progress" when I try to track it. How long does it typically take them to get your award letter out to you? I only actually managed to get my application finished on the 15th of last month, this was again due to an error on their part saying I had already applied (clearly hadnt). I'm going to give myCampus another go tomorrow and if I cant sort it i'll need to contact my adviser, its a real pain in the arse.

If its their fault I would try and kick up a stink although it's a nightmare to get through on the phone nowadays. I don't know how long I'd expect your award letter to be out. Thats quite a while after the guarantee date so you could be waiting until nearly October.

    Good luck!
