  1. Watched the Departed last night, 9/10.

Probably did deserve the oscars it got, as it was certainly very enjoyable. However i feel that it only won the oscar because of a bad year for films. Great performances from the cast and a decent enough storyline. May try the original version of the film sometime.

  2. I don't know, but seeing how the government is taking everything else away from the post office (latest being the TV licence), I'd be surprised.

A shame if they did. (Atleast without having somewhere else to pop into in a hurry). I'm one of those people who never remember to post anything away, so suddenly realise "shit i have to pay my Road Tax today" and need to run in to get it. Thankfully it is right next to my work (where i get the tax) so is easy to do. It is also cheaper to walk in and get it as you have to pay for postage

I bought it on the internet.

how long ago did you do it? (i.e. did you give the Royal mail enough time to find you?)

  3. My tax runs out tomorrow, and I renewed the tax on Friday, but the disc has yet to arrive.

I have it on good authority from a friend (use that word loosely) of mine who works in the police that as long as the vehicle has valid tax, it won't matter if the disc doesn't arrive by tomorrow, as they will be able to check my registration and see that it has tax.

I would rather it arrived tomorrow though.

Can't you get the tax disc on the same day from the Post Office any more?

  4. Watched:- Sideways. 7/10

It was the oscar nominated film with Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church on a stag week wine tasting in California. Quite a lot of funny parts throughout, but i hated the ending

    Broken Flowers :- 5/10

Bill Murray starred so i watched it. He got a letter from an old ex who said she had his kid, and he ends up visiting them. Had a stunning looking Alexis Dziena starring as Sharon Stones Daughter, and walks around totally naked at one point. That got it 4/10. I had lost interest in the film by the end, definitely one of Bill Murrays worst. I think

He found his son, but i don`t know who the mother is

    but im not 100% sure.

p.s. for those that dont know who Alexis Dziena is, (including me at first) this is her:-

  5. Work

Working late tonight, as we wanted to take our time with a new experiment. The whole thing costs about $1000 for 1 experiment, so to make a stupid mistake would be horrible. The whole day is going fine, we extracted the proteins ok, we labelled them fine (not brilliant but usable) and go to read the results. The scanner didnt work. It scanned about 1 line out of 5 so it was unusable.

Now tomorrow, the first thing to be done is find out if it is a problem we can fix (1 person uses it and we dont know their number, they didnt work late). If not can we use someone elses scanner, and if not it means a Road trip to Atlanta/Columbia/Athens to use someone else`s scanners.

This is one of the most exciting experiments we are doing and this happens.

Now for the worst thing, i take very few holidays a year, but for some reason i have taken this weekend as a long weekend. I am going to have to wait until Tuesday to find out the results

maybe someone will be nice and call me with them :)

Gnight all, have a good weekend :)

  6. I don't think you are.

I too broadly agree with Ruggy, who has posted his view in a well thought out, non aggressive manner. :)

    That is true.

Im not saying if it is right or wrong to do what Rowan did. All i was pointing out that there should really be 2 different "types" of reply to what she said, especially taking into consideration she may be having some major problems.

    1) Be sympathetic

    2) Ignore it.

To start an arguement and call names is not going to help Rowan, and takes away from the fact she may be needing help. I dont know whether she is trying to attention seek, or is just nervous/wary about posting everything but felt she had to do something. Thats what we will never know sadly.

  7. Without wanting to drag this up again - I seem to have developed a reputation for daring to say it a few weeks ago - this is a thread for "petty" nags and complaints.

If someone is suffering from a problem that means they are seriously considering suicide or harm or anything like that, this is NOT the place for it IMO.

I'm totally with SaintSam on this one.

It wouldn't be a problem if she just posted what was wrong but it's like someone going into a room of people, sitting down and then sighing and shaking their head constantly so they'll get asked what's wrong.

Then just ignore her then. It is just an internet forum so surely that should be nice and simple. If you are that worried that she is just attention seeking then if noone answers her then she will have failed. However id much rather take a little time to ask her if all is ok, reassure her etc. It doesnt take much of an effort.

  8. Who is ganging up on her? I merely asked her to be frank, instead of the attention seeking drivel we are all too often subjected to. If she has to tell us she wants to jump from a bridge and kill herself, when asked why by people who obviously care she could at least explain herself in plain English.

Point 1) noone has asked her why (other than kilt in a round about way) all that has been done to reply to Rowan is:-

    1) People trying to get her to calm down (obviously kind worried people)

    2) People giving a picture of a bridge (wanting her to go to the bridge or what? very sad and pathetic if you ask me. Im sure ill get a reply of "its only an internet forum", but it is a real person behind the computer that is obviously not doing good. )

    3) Kilt wondering if she is being extorted (a round about way of asking why, and Rowan hasnt posted since)

    4) You and ShetlandBairn ganging up on her calling her an attention seeker and trying to lure interest (i suppose you asked what is wrong too- but she hasnt replied yet).

FWIW hope all is ok Rowan, as others have said Calm down and try and find someone to talk to for help.

  9. Then some parent would have to wheel their kid past reversing cars and others trying to park.

Disabled and Parent and Child spaces are there for a reason. <_<

Can we merge the posts from the last time this was in discussion to here? save us all time

(they are obviously there so that Sam can park there when the staff bay is busy. Those normal parking areas are not safe for her car you know ;)

  10. You clearly don't recall correctly.

I would park in a parent and child bay if I was going to work and the staff bays were full, although haven't done that since that discussion - haven't needed to, really. I would never park in a disabled bay under those circumstances and I believe the only time I ever have done is when it's been late at night and they are all empty.

So you are having a go at her for not recalling correctly, yet in the same post state that you do park in disabled bays  and i stuck up for you too.

  11. Ive just realised theres a massive glob of sweet and sour sauce on my beard.....I have to get up and wash it off, but if I move, then theres a chance that it gets all over my clean t-shirt. Feck!

    1) Take your finger, and stick it out straight.

    2) Remove the glob of sweet n sour sauce with your finger

    3) EAt the sweet and sour sauce.

    Here to help.
