  1. It's police intimidation, pure and simple. If they wanted to contact "offenders" (of which you have precisely no evidence these people are), then they can do it over the phone just as effectively without having to make a completely unncessary journey during a period where people are supposed to be staying at home for their own safety. They could also do so during the day, not late at night or early in the morning.
Fortunately their requests to jump the queue for vaccinations have been correctly filed straight into the bin given that this is what they consider an essential interaction with the public. You can't claim to be concerned about the impact on the wider population from these people gathering if they themselves are engaging in this sort of unncessary and high risk behaviour.
Somehow the police managed to call off a planned event in London which was organised after one of their own was arrested for murder, and somehow they managed to effectively police protests about NHS payrises by dishing out ludicrous fines to people, but now we're supposed to believe that they are incapable of dealing with this event in the same way?

I don't necessarily agree with the tactics but there's a couple of reasons why this would be better carried out face to face. Data protection for one (how can they be sure they are taking to the right person?) and the very strong likelihood that the phones are just not going to be answered or hung up immediately upon introduction.

Re your point about vaccinations - the decision of a senior officer to employ these tactics which you and many others disagree with doesn't negate the fact that a sizeable section of the population is continuing to act as if there is no pandemic and so the spinning wheel of violent crime, domestics, house parties etc continues - all of which the police are responding to day in, day out. I think your point is a bit unfair.
  2. The SNP also takes a percentage of its vote from Rangers fans.
It’s already extracted all the vote share it’s going to get from the middle-class. There’s not much to be gained from doing this.

It can't be much though surely? I know a fair few Rangers fans and not one of them is outwardly an SNP voter. Most of them turned out to be Union Flag waving ultra British nationalists on social media at the weekend.

  3. I'm unsure of  St Matthew’s facilities. I take it that it fits the criteria to be included in the WOSFL. Sounding good from Kilbride Thistle and hopefully will be an exciting addition to the league
The facility they are intending on using is a grass pitch surrounded by a running track, which is all enclosed by the standard metal/wire fence which is now widely used. It already has covered seating and floodlights and the changing facilities would be the KA Leisure/St Matthew's Secondary changing which are already used heavily by boys club and amateur teams. The floodlights are mainly focused on the track however and I'm not sure if they would need to be adjusted or upgraded for the pitch to be illuminated.

It is a bit of a trek to the changing rooms however so wouldn't be ideal for half times.

One thing I'm not sure of is if they are expecting to attract a support there. The town already has a WOS team which doesn't gain much traction in the town.
  4. How about doing the job we pay them o do.
They're quick enough to lift people lying in the road to protest about nuclear weapons but not wee daftness with an Union flag.
Arrest a few and they'll soon disperse.
These clowns know what a weekender is and won't want to do one.
Arrest a few and it will start a riot. You know this. It's about managing and mitigating the situation and ensuring it doesn't turn violent.

There's a clear difference between 40 middle aged hippies lying on a road, and 5000-odd, mainly young emotional and exuberant football fans.
  5. 5000 gather and the police do nothing.
If it was 5000 protesting against Global warming would it have seen the same reaction from the police?
Yes. If you have any ideas on how the police can safely and effectively deal with/arrest 5000 fans at the same time (more than the number of police officers on duty throughout the entire country) them you should write to the Chief Constable immediately and offer your services.
  6. Steve Clarke has rejected both sides of the Old Firm in recent times, for well documented reasons.
Absolutely no chance will he be the next Celtic manager.
Agreed. Wasn't part of the reason he took the Scotland job because it meant he didn't have to reside permanently in Scotland and could spend more time with his family down south? There's no chance he will subject himself to this job.
  7. Think that’s it. He delivers the league then (fair fucks to him) he’s off to the EPL, reputation soundly bolstered by having stopped them winning 10. Sore bit for us will be how much of his coaching staff he takes with him. Gary Mac to step up or go with?
Don't the winners of the premiership this season go straight into the Champion's League? I'd have thought he would want to have a crack at that as opposed to moving to Crystal Palace or Newcastle for example. Unless Liverpool and Klopp part ways.
  8. The idea of seeing Scott Brown and Neil Lennon swagger-rage their way around the Celtic Park pitch after officially "losing the 10", names now written in infamy, is a great one.
Couldn't happen to two nicer blokes.
Downside would be the fucking swathes of **** who suddenly burst onto this site like a swarm of cockroaches, trying to goad everyone in telling them how great Rangers are.
    Have you met them personally?
  9. On your players social media they are still training, u turn?
Tommy Sloan suggested on the Down the Divisions podcast that training once per week might be a possibility but nothing had been decided at that point.

I thought a few more of the players may have been asked/approached to go on loan to other clubs this season but I haven't really been keeping track.
  10. Has anyone else noticed a huge proliferation in Rangers graffiti where they live? I get that the town in which I live probably has a large Rangers following but it seems that almost every piece of street furniture has been spray painted with 'UB' or similar, and stickers have been affixed to signs/electricity boxes everywhere you look. I get that graffiti of some sort has always been present but I've never seen it to this extent.

Is this happening anywhere else or is this replicated elsewhere by supporters of other clubs?

  11. It's a conundrum. I know lots of Rangers fans and the vast majority of them are decent people and on the surface, only interested in football. But I find it hard to reconcile that with what we see and hear at Rangers away matches and Hampden appearances - thousands upon thousands singing racist songs. That and the extreme British nationalism perpetually on show.

I look at the strips on display at Orange parades, the rantings of the prominent Rangers fan groups on Twitter and the occasional footage of people in Rangers regalia in George Square and erecting bonfires in Northern Ireland and wonder why on earth anyone would want to be associated with these people via a football club. Then I suppose why should your enjoyment of following your club be prevented by the actions of a fringe element (if indeed it is a fringe and not the main body of support - a source of great debate here).

  12. I am probably naive but I tend to concentrate on the mad knifeperson part, wouldn't really give a crap about their ethnicity.
I think that is naive. You'd want to know everything you can about him - height, build, clothing, colour, so that you can be sure you have the right person when the confrontation arrives. If he's disposed of, or hidden the knife within his clothing for example, then all those descriptors are vital. You can't rely on him swinging the blade around when you arrive for identification.
  13. I stand corrected then, that is shocking.
If armed police are being sent to an incident to tackle a knife carrying bad guy it's pretty important that they know exactly who they are looking for and what he looks like. Clothing and ethnicity are crucial descriptors. So asking about the suspect's race/colour is probably not as shocking as you may think.
  14. Just found out we don't have coroners in Scotland. The Procurator Fiscal can order an enquiry, but not sure what happens when there's little question about the events.

I wasn’t sure - I think there are sometimes Fatal Accident Inquiries about stuff like this?
The police, on behalf of the Procurator Fiscal have a responsibility to investigate and report the circumstances of certain deaths which include, for example, suspicious deaths, deaths which occur outdoors, unexpected deaths which cannot be immediately attributed to medical causes (including child deaths) and deaths which result from recent police contact (including deaths in custody).

Given that the only confirmed death from yesterday appears to have been as a result of a police action, the oversight of this investigation will lie with PIRC (Police Investigations & Review Commissioner), which is a statutory body and not part of Police Scotland. They don't have the resources to manage an investigation of this magnitude alone, so the inquiry will be carried out by the police, probably from a specialist investigative team, with PIRC working in tandem with the senior investigating officer.

There will be a full police investigation into these events. As to whether a Fatal Accident Inquiry is subsequently held - this would normally be decided following the conclusion of a criminal investigation and may not be required at all if the investigation sufficiently establishes the full circumstances.

  15. Put Talbotgate to the side and lets talk football again. It seems to me the same as almost every season, Talbot are victims of being a successful football team, year after year being made to cram fixtures at the end of every season because weve been representing junior football in other competiitions raising the small teams profiles to national level.Would anybody really truthfully think Talbot would not have won this years league, who was going to beat  us at least 5 times to giive the buffs a chance. It might hhave ended in a shambles, but can anyone deny Talbot were the best team in this years league.

You were representing yourselves, not junior football. You've done really well and deserve all the success and money you have, but you're about as representative of junior football as Celtic are to Scottish football as a whole. The runs in the senior cup benefited absolutely nobody apart from Talbot, and actually put everyone else at a severe financial disadvantage.

And no, I can't deny Talbot were the best team in this season's league and would probably have won. But I wouldn't have put my mortgage on it.
