As it stands just now we would need 8 wins from 9 games to win league.  That just ain’t going to happen when you consider we still have the two teams that won tonight (glens home and away, Largs away ) it is nonsense to say it’s our league to lose there is a ton of football to be played and when you consider we are very inconsistent at the moment….are we favourites probably,  but it certainly isn’t our league to lose.

It absolutely is Beiths league to lose.
Current league champions, and have wiggle room to drop points and still win the league

Your point about needing 8/9 to win the league, this is only true if other teams go 100% from now until end of the season. That’s very unlikely, maybe Clydebank could since only 3 to play.

By the time Talbot next play in the league you will have played 4 games. That should see the points on the board to put you comfortably above them. They will likely have a few cup finals to prepare for and I am sure after their start they would have taken a few cups and a top 3 league finish so priorities will shift for them.

60 points will win the league this season.

  2. Seems no one wants to win this league this season.

Beith can only throw it away now, overwhelming favourites

Max Points teams can reach and games to play and win to reach that (I think may be some miss calculations in this so happy to be corrected)

    Beith 68 (9)

    Talbot 63 (8)

    Hurlford 61 (11)

    st Cadoc 60 (6)

    darvel 59 (7)

    clydebank 57 (3)

    pollok 57 (7)

    largs 56 (6)

Talbot will drop some points in the run-in because we have a lot of games including some very difficult ones. We could do with beating Beith but a draw wouldn't be the end of the world.

After slagging Beith and Bankies fans a few months back for playing down their side's chances I will state that despite Talbot's momentum it's 60/40 in Beith's favour because of their lead, already being the champions, and the slightly better run-in (I can't bring myself to count St Cadoc's into the equation - they could very well win the thing but they're a kiddy-on club and it's just such a depressing prospect).

It now feels like a free hit for Talbot because we've salvaged some hope from a doomed-looking season so win or lose there will be a lot of optimism for next season and the management, players and everyone else connected with Talbot will deserve a massive round of applause for the way the ship has been steadied regardless of how it all pans out. The pressure of expectation is probably more on Beith right now because they're the champs and have been pegged back from an unassailable-looking lead.

The next 3 games will define the league season for Talbot. If they get through that run still in touching distance then I would put them as favourites.
Form team in the league at the minute.
The last 4 fixtures will likely be against teams with nothing to play for when these games come around.

Beith defense is not the greatest, losing McGlinchey would have been a blow plus a few other players rumoured to be leaving. While Talbot seem to have none of that background noise.

A lot of teams will look at this season as what could have been. For us to take zero points from Meadow and Glenafton earlier in the year killed us. That was right over a really unsettling period for the club and no doubt it impacted the players.

I don’t think this seasons eventual winners will be remembered for being any sort of formidable force, just the ones who had a bit more resilience when it mattered.

League is mental this season with probably about 6 or 7 clubs mooching about the top half and all are  on probable parity ability wise and being at it for the 90 minutes.

Good game at bellsdale today and we got out the traps very early doors and should have added another few but as the first half progressed pollok were the better team .

Second half was mostly about beith I felt and we came back very well and longmuir had several good saves to keep pollok In it , however if you want to mention great saves then our goalie had arguably the best save I've ever saw at bellsdale in injury time when he scooped one Up like Gordon banks to deny pollok a victory.

A draw was the fair result for me today on the balance of the game.

Second half was like a basketball game, both teams going for it.
Any neutral would have seen an entertaining game.
When both sides are disappointed about missing chances or keeper saves to deny a victory, that’s usually the indicator that a draw was a fair result.

Leaving the game I couldn’t work out how we didn’t score in the last minute, watching it back in twitter I still can’t believe it!

for the first time this season I think that it's become a realistic possibility rather than just a pipe dream.

I can't believe so many teams ahead of us have dropped enough points to let us back in with a sniff. Even the likes of Pollok could see a way back into it because of the collapses at the top end.

if we keep doing what we've been doing since new year we'll be there or thereabouts.

Not a chance we are involved.
We have been better the last few games but not consistent enough to put together a run of wins.

11 games to play and only 2 of them are against teams currently below us. So we will likely have a big say in where the league goes but if we finish top 8 after the way the middle of this season has went that would be an achievement.

Talbot look the form team at the minute who will join in with Beith and Darvel as the 3 likely to be in the mix.
Would be surprised if anyone else ended up top.

Screenshot, no Pollok players in the line of sight or in an offside position but even if there was the referee is the one who would make the call on the line of sight. Plus of course you need the ball to have actually been played first for there to be an offside and the referee didn't indicate an indirect free kick later. Assistant already has his flag up before it's kicked!

Must've given it for the coming together closest to the assistant. Fortunately it didn't affect the game but I'd say the assistant and more importantly the referee have forgotten the first point of law 12 which is "Direct and indirect free kicks and penalty kicks can only be awarded for offences committed when the ball is in play."

    Capture9.JPG

The linesman put his flag up for Forrester pushing over one of their players while waiting for the FK to be taken.

Mullen strikes the ball and scores while the flag was already up.

Linesman then puts his flag down, then back up.

Ref awards a FK to Largs, despite ball not in play when linesman flagged for the incident they seen.

So either it’s a goal, as the incident when the ball was not in play can not be a free kick, or a re take free kick.

For a game that hardly had a bad tackle yesterday, the ref somehow seemed to create an atmosphere that made it seem like a dirty game and that every foul was a Red card - going by how many times Largs players surrounded him. Really out his depth.

Congratulations to Adam. How many games has he played ?

Around 175 I think going by Pollok website. Not sure of the breakdown between starts and subs. May be some others on here who have a greater knowledge who will post

But averaging at bettering a goal in less than every 2 games is impressive at any level (or around 0.57 per game.)

2012 we got beat by hearts due to a suspect offside flag at hearts who says we could not have beat them if that was allowed yes its all ifs and buts but I still reckon we could have and has for beating  a spfl side we beat a team that came down

So you nearly got a draw….

How can no other team beat a Aberdeen u played them when they were their lowest if ur honest if u forgot talbot nearly beat Hearts only for a offside decision that wasn't we have beat a high flying Ayr utd and oh we beat Hamilton who were in the Premier league just a few months before any team can beat anyone oh and our club have won more than Darvel will ever win and that's without spending stupid money and we have 1 of the best stadiums and how did we do it easy respect ur fans respect ur club and respect the players but overall respect everyone

Talbot have played Hearts 3 times and never scored a goal. So don’t think you were a chopped off goal away from winning. As much as have very little time for Darvel, credit where credit is due and they beat a Tier one side and the first WoS side to do so.
It could be repeated again, but I wouldn’t want to put money on that being the case.

As for their current state of affairs, if they are having to bring U20 players through that will suit their manager, he said in his interview on you tube at time of appointment he has a history of bringing through players. I mean at Pollok he brought through a young Robbie Winters and Bryan Young to name a couple…

It's one TV game from Rounds 1 to 3, but the BBC have shown a second in previous years but that's usually been down to Covid or something.

    Yip, one per round.

R1 last year was impacted by Queen funeral and they pulled TV coverage of Pollok match.

R2 they then had two games, Friday and Monday, and Pollok got one of those games - Annan match.

Yet they still splashed the cash on the ex Talbot boys and the Cumnock striker. Doesn't add up. No club seriously budgets for cup runs.

Exactly this. 20k on a player plus the wages to the players they signed in the summer.

Scottish cup 2 seasons ago must have been worth no more than 40k to them, last season obviously more.

So either the club budgeted for 5th round and multiple TV appearances and if so must be managed by idiots, or it’s nonsense. As if budgeted for the 4th round then that’s a 40k shortfall and the money there we’re spending is way more than that.

Looking in, it feels that going out the Scottish and their chairman not having the chance to get his ego stroked again is more likely the reason for pulling back funds.

Also liked the comment that ‘currently’ the management team happy to stay - of course they do, they ain’t walking away without their £££, or until Johnstone Burgh need a new management team.

    📣 𝘾𝙡𝙪𝙗 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 🔵

In light of recent speculation surrounding Darvel’s financial position and following a number of significant player transfers, the Board would like to put on record that the Club is forecasting a deficit in this season’s financial accounts.

This deficit is a culmination of absent sponsor revenue, increased maintenance/service costs and a Scottish Cup exit. The Scottish Cup campaign has put a real dent in the budget, which has been a healthy figure over the last few seasons.

The board met last week and has reviewed the Club’s strategic vision, and after careful review has concluded that with our current financial circumstances we need to balance the books through reducing our player budget.

I am sure our fans will appreciate the philosophy of the team built over the last few seasons has been aimed at reaching promotion and capable of competing within the league above, whereas we now must align with short-medium term ambitions in our next phase approach towards sustainability. We will aim to achieve this through additional revenue streams where the Club has since made good head way with discussions over the recent week(s).

The Club wants to remain within WoSL Premier competitive environment, where we can continue to thrive within our community, remain sustainable, go far in both regional/non-regional trophies and plan long term development of current infrastructure. We want to have utilisation of the academy player model and players within community; which will strengthen the Club longer term.

Currently the management team have intimated that they wish to see through the evolution of Darvel - which is hugely important to the Club given their pedigree and experience. Tony and his team have worked tirelessly since appointment, despite the timescales between appointment and season commencement, which meant constraints on them fully getting their own stamp on things. Over the coming months there will be a degree of change within the current playing squad which is still to be decided jointly between Club/Management Team, so we ask that fans are supportive of the proposed measures, for better days ahead.

The profile of the Club has risen remarkably in the current non-league sphere, given its ambition and significant investment in our playing surface, dressing rooms, floodlighting and SFA licensing modifications - all backed by personal investment from Club President, John Gall, who helped set out this vision for Darvel. Selling out Recreation Park to over 3000 fans at the turn of the year and just missing out on the Quarter Finals of Scottish Cup, has compounded just how far Darvel’s investment has taken us in recent years. This can continue to be in the hopes and dreams of Darvel fans season upon season and doesn’t stop because the short-medium term ambitions has changed.

Whilst the Club continues to grow - we pledge for anyone to get in touch, who feels they could offer a different dynamic to help achieve the evolution of Darvel. We are an inclusive, diverse and approachable Club with a broad demographic of committee and board. We don’t profess to be anything other than a group of like minded individuals who share that common goal of making something better for the community we live/work in.

    Together we are stronger 💪🏻💙

Has the draw been made for the Wosfl cup see some teams posting their next game. Are they just following the graph template on the Wosfl site. Very confusing as the draws for rounds 1 and 2 were done at the agm.

Some ties today were round one, so games that clubs may have announced are their round two games.

Agree the way it is set out on the WoS website does imply the ‘flow’ of the draw and who you could face in the next round. And looking at that, would be Talbot v Pollok in round 3.

Clearing fixture backlogs with midweek games during the winter months is definitely what they should be used for.

My only problem with that is the teams with floodlights end up with home midweek games in poorer weather which usually result in smaller attendances rather than Saturday.

So worse off for spending money plus the cost of the electricity for that game.
The problem we seem to have is all these cups that have to be played at the weekend due no floodlights so league games become second priority. That’s the situation that needs resolved. Could have cup competitions starting early and play a few rounds in August when lighter nights (WoS SJC) and then pick up the remaining rounds post clock changes in March.

We should play as many league games on Saturdays as possible.

We had ten men for most of the game, a poor call for me looked like johnstone got the ball but you cant really tackle anymore. You couldn't really say it changed the game as we passed up numerous chances, tc through on goal, graham header and darroch unmarked from a corner. Even the benburb first goal was through our mistake, dodgy ball back to keeper when it should have been on the motorway. There wont be many more hardworking teams in the league than Benburb.

Watched the footage that was posted last night that everyone seemed to be complaining about, including your manager

This is the still just before impact that was also posted, , this is a red based on current laws. You can’t tackle like that anymore. Happened to Jordon Allen recently too. Maybe 5 or 10 years ago that was a yellow, but straight in, studs up is dangerous and a red.

I reckon all the cringey speeches on the telly were his way of getting his name out there for prospective employers to see. He managed to get himself a mad level of exposure over that cup run by hook or by crook.

It worked a treat from his perspective but from near enough the moment they beat Aberdeen he gave the impression of a man biding his time until the offers rolled in and Darvel collapsed.

He was trying to get out well before the Aberdeen game. Was trying to manage Pollok after Murdie left around this time last year.

I get some of you guys don’t like him but you have to show a wee bit of sympathy here to a man who took the job promised the earth in all probability and then a few months later he’s been told to get rid of players to reduce the wage bill , he must be wondering what’s he’s landed himself into

    Zero sympathy

Anyway, He will be fine, in his next interview he will have this all as an excuse, conveniently forgetting that when you were pumped out the cups you still had all these players.

Didn't rob roy spend loads of the adamslie money on chasing glory when it was sold ? I could be wrong but I seem to remember them going mad for success in that period with wages and signings .

That’s how I remember it too… Like the signings of Ian  Diack and Kevin Bradley from Pollok, wouldn’t have been cheap.

As long as KRR are in the same league as Pollok, and continuing to play on grass at a decent Cumbernauld ground, rather than some sport centre is fine by me !

  19. Very good signing for Talbot. Not surprised they spent a bit of money to try and sort out where they are at the minute as not many players on a free would be a solution.

While you haven’t been keeping clean sheets it does look like small margins that have resulted in dropped points. Glasgow should make a big difference to that. And happy to see him leave Darvel.
