In the last few seasons Pollok have been synonymous with acting like a gang in these games. I don't expect you to agree but I see it in matches v Pollok far more than against other league opponents - you have to watch it every week so it might seem more normal. One metric of this would be the number of red cards in Talbot v Pollok games and which side gets the lion's share of them. Yesterday should have seen that total added to - 45 yards from goal can still quickly develop into a goal-scoring opportunity. if the Talbot forward had taken a good touch instead of being wiped out his next touch after that would probably have been a shot on goal. whether there were defenders running back or not is irrelevant and for me (and any ref that isn't a bottle merchant) that's a red card.  Happy to take this back if the highlights show I'm talking pish.

    Ignoring the punch?
And Talbot bench telling No 7 to not complain as knew No 9 was off?

That was a good entertaining game today. Talbot deserved to win and could maybe have been more comfortable, but Pollok were a danger.

My 1st instinct was that the ref shat the bed by not giving the Pollok defender a red at 1-0 for preventing a clear scoring opportunity with the Talbot player near-certain to get a shot off. I might be wrong and the highlights will be interesting for that incident. I know other defenders were closing in but I can't see how that wasn't a clear opportunity to score. The ref was fairly poor throughout but I also find Pollok to be about the most niggly side we play in this division and they sail very close to the wind with their discipline at times. It's been like that for a few seasons now. No doubt they would disagree.

Also, Boylan's header for the winner was absolutely tremendous.

    Very selective posting here!

No mention of the punch thrown around 30/40 mins by No9 already on a booking and the ref somehow books your no 7? Should have been down to 10.

As for the clean going scoring opportunity, it was 45 yards from goal with defenders running back, same as the foul by your number 3 which he injured himself doing - both bookings.

As for Pollok sailing close to the wind… pot kettle springs to mind !

As for the game itself, first half was poor, we set up poorly and only invited Talbot on to us. All be it keeper only had a couple of saves.

Second half much better with two McCanns up top and Lyon on left. Could have went either way at 1-1.

So they are not allowed more than 900? Can you explain your Ayrshire comment ( no such a council as Dumbartonshire)

There is no such thing as Ayrshire council Or Dumbartonshire - it was mentioned in a collective about East/West North /South councils for those areas dealing with ground capacity for teams in their council vs GCC.

They can’t. They are not allowed.

Aye but I am saying what is the capacity without the restrictions?

    Newlandsfield capacity guidelines below…

The capacity if based in an Ayrshire or Dumbartonshire council 3k

The capacity if based in Glasgow City Council 900

Are Pollok appealing the capacity? Saw some discussion with the Clydebank game but don’t think I saw anything official.

Not that I am aware of. But others on here may be in a better place to answer that, the Clydebank thread covered in reasonable detail the challenges we have being in GCC compared to more local Ayrshire / Dumbartonshire councils who don’t have the biggest stadiums in the country in their domain and therefore standards to set for them all to abide by.

Is the Pollok game next Saturday all ticket and if it is how many tickets are Talbot getting?

I don’t believe that has been confirmed but I suspect it will be.

I think games v Talbot and Arthurlie will be all ticket as will most cup games.

For the recently postponed South challenge cup game, Clydebank were given an allocation of 90 with them online tickets also made available

From what I heard last night I don’t think either team do.Hope I’m wrong though

The money would be from the SFA not the BBC though as the TV money is the deal already agreed years ago and then the payment is based on what round the game is. So it’s really SFA who I assume decide if we get the money for that round

    Highlights on BBC now.

Football at SPFL level takes up a lot of police resource at the weekend  so the SFA probably took that into consideration with the authorities given the police presence in Edinburgh today for the arrival of  the queen's body it wouldn't surprise me if this was a massive factor. The WoSFL and South Challenge Cup Committee took the lead from the SFA on the decision and probably didn't have much of a discussion about it and always planned to take the lead from SFA.

Whether we agree about it, it's all about being seen to do the right thing, so the lower leagues wouldn't want to be seen to do the "wrong thing"

The big question  will be,  will  next weekends games go ahead? Country is a "National State of Mourning" and will be next weekend too, so would be odd to decide this weekend isn't ok but next week is

If (and it’s a big if) one of the main reasons football was cancelled was down to policing resources, you would assume that will no longer be an issue come the weekend in Scotland.

And if that the case, it’s hard to justify any reason football should be called off.

Newlandsfield has quite comfortably  held 3-4K plus in past years but the Council are not prepared to permit even 1k now on the basis of safety.Seems ludicrous considering there are no open slopes etc and that the whole ground is fully stepped and terraced!

Pretty much one year ago we played Talbot (infamous 8 men game)

That day the weather was shocking and pretty much a crowd of 1k was packed under the main stand. Great atmosphere, comfortable, safe. Fast forward 12 months and the full ground isn’t deemed safe to hold that !

Feel sorry for those on the committee who have worked hard to get our license, fans who help raise funds to contribute towards the floodlights only for complete inconsistency across councils on what is deemed safe.

I would guess there was more allowed behind the goals at the ‘away’ end for Talbot v Hearts than is now allowed under our enclosure.

Its actually a sad indictment to life these days in terms of health and safety going bonkers,  a packed newlandsfield is of no harm to anyone and as I  said before the cracking  crowds of the 70s/80s/90s was never a problem so why should it be now ?

One of the classic football grounds is being reduced to this nonsense and the snowflakes and drama queens are winning the day when the ground is perfectly fine and how good did it look last night under the lights , it just felt complete with the lights shining .

Spot on. The slab of the main stand that  I haved watched the game with for 35+ years is now classed as no safe ! Bonkers.

but gives the council something to do as nothing else to occupy them just now….

Talbot have another exit that's big enough to drive a bus through at the other side of the Coal Road end enclosure from the clubhouse that they open for the bigger games. Also, the turnstyle at Coal Road has 2 turnstyles (so it's more than single file) and next to that there's a gate for cars to get in and out that could be used for exiting punters if push came to shove.

Not disputing that, just pointing out that there is an exit at Talbot that is single file through a set of turnstiles

Pollok have the double gate next to the turnstiles and the large double gate at the side of Loks, so at least on par with most teams around the leagues

Pollok capacity would be set by Glasgow city council.

Holm Park is in a different council area so that might be the reason.

    And there lies the problem!

Pollok capacity set by a council who would access the safety of some of the biggest grounds in the country and have a standard they set that will be different to many local councils

With regards exists - we have two large gates that are available plus the members gate. That is probably more than most

Talbot one exit is via the turnstiles so single file. But allowed 3k at Scottish cup v Hearts.

i believe the main restrictions are around safe standing around the ground, which would be no worse than any other grounds that I would visit that are not in GCC.

For all those that are frustrated by it, I am pretty certain they are not as frustrated as those who now need to arrange ticketing and limited finances as a result.

Not even the best left back at the club.

Danny McKenzie was hugely important to how we played this season.
He got injured in the cup at Clydebank in early February and hardly kicked a ball since. Our results from then show the importance of him to our side.

Took us until end of April to realize we needed to change formation to cope without him.

retrofitting a ground like Pollok with seating risks ending up with a result that costs a few quid but is not really to anyone's benefit. Maybe a wee covered and seated section behind the club house end goal could work as it's probably already fairly accessable for folk with mobility problems.

It's in the top couple of non league grounds (better than many a lower league ground too) imo so I would rather see subtle things like a lick of paint on the enclosure roof or a covered and hygienic pisser than box ticking projects.

If you need a piss there is spanking new toilets for you to visit - male, female and accessible toilets !!

In terms of where Pollok are now, I agree, we have an excellent ground for this level. And arguably the next few tiers too.

Toilet and disable access faculties suitable for the crowd size we get. A main stand, that while could do with some paint, is one of the things that make Newlandsfield the great ground it is.

Last night v Bankies was a prime example. Packed of fans cheering on their team, generating a great atmosphere with around 500 under the enclosure.
Even going back to the 3-3 draw with Talbot when it was monsoon weather, and everyone was packed in the stand in a game with 1000 attendance - again the atmosphere that day was as good as I have seen at this level.

In addition the whole way around the ground the standing areas allow good vantage points - not always the case for many clubs where it’s not tiered

Additional covered space IMO isn’t really needed due to the size of the stand we have, and seating would be nice to have at the moment. I look at the grounds with seats in them and rarely do I see them half full.

I do follow them both ... and im looking at the @atfc1909 account home page and cant see any updates. Is there another one mibbee ?

You need to go into ‘tweets and replies’ not just tweets as they post them as if it’s a message to Darvel as they start with their rather than a general post.

Radical suggestion, a dual conference Tier 5 to include and replace the Lowland League. Two “conferences” East and West based of 16 teams. Would very quickly be the most exciting league(s) in the country.

16 is a good number for a league. Could the SFL not switch to 16 a league all the way up, which would allow 48 SFL Clubs over three divisions? Clubs would find the correct level a lot faster.

The starting point to get to a 16 team league is the Premiership. Not a chance those clubs vote for 4 more teams in the league to reduce the times they play Glasgow teams.

Tier 5 already has two divisions, lowland and highland, so a 3rd one, even with two promotions would still mean a league winner didn’t progress.

Unfortunately the voting process in Scottish football makes progressive change impossible, as seen in the various solutions presented by clubs when the league was stopped in March ‘20 and the fall out after that (and let’s not forget the shambolic voting process that was experienced then)

David Syme transferred from Buffs to Darvel for club record £12K fee confirmed on Buffs social media. The tapping saga ends thankfully. Could be your club next.

Fair play to Kilwinning for announcing the money they got. Sets the going rate the next time they try it with another club.

No doubt the chicken man will be on claiming they missed the decimal point and it was only £120.00

Why would the Darvel manager know Pollok or Talbot’s business and who they speak to?

Cos he knows what goes on at every club  as players tell him what they have been offered at these clubs, nothing to do with negotiation just them being dead honest with him but don’t dare mention what goes on at his club as it’s all lies !

If you want a job, just tell him Nandos are offering you £90k a year as the best piri piri chicken maker in the west, but you haven’t wanted to make chicken for anyone other than his company so willing to accept £75k a year.

Not a clue about Pollok and how it’s ran. Anyway, at least this season your ‘big team’ Airdrie  might win something, that will be nice for you.
