Andy Irving's footballing abilities weren't appreciated by our support due to the absolute honking players he had to play in beside. I'm not surprised he made his way into the Hearts starting line up and has now moved on elsewhere. Bit puzzled as to where he's moved right enough but he obviously fancies a crack at it abroad so fair play to him. For an 18 year old playing in the middle of the park his composure on the ball was excellent. His game was sitting deep and spraying the play out wide but he could also go past a man if needed.

If we play to his strengths and get bodies up beside him he'll do a lot better this season than he did last.

Compensation would be too much for us to handle and he'll be fishing in much bigger ponds unfortunately. Will most likely get a move down south as will Dapo Mebude.

I'd imagine Sheerin will have been taking a look at Sneddon to see what needs done with him. If he's not up to it he should go out on loan to give him the chance he needs and give us room for another signing even if it's just a loan. The one goalie is an issue but they said in the Q&A that there were two goalkeepers on trial so hopefully one of them's decent. Calum Ferrie would have done for me but Queens Park have snapped him up as their back up. I'm not buying the Keena injury prone thing, he got a bad injury from a bad tackle last year in the cup and if it is his rumoured collarbone this time then that's just an unfortunate training ground injury. Disappointing that he won't get a proper pre season again but he'll be back. The issue for me is the players we need to sign right now are right through the spine of the team. Our only back up at centre back is Ben Hall, our only centre mid cover is Gary Miller and we only have Dowds upfront who I think will have a better season this year but we can't rely on him solely.

Yeah as sad as it sounds it's maybe just a case of keeping them along at the moment so we can actually field a team in the friendlies. Sheerin's had plenty time to have a proper look at them by now so hopefully they are offski or at least gone after the Arbroath game. Still a hell of a lot to do on the recruitment front before the start of the season against Cove on the 31st of July which is in less than 4 weeks. A back up goalkeeper, a centre back to compete with Mckay & Dixon as Hall won't do, an energetic centre midfielder and two strikers with one presumably going to be Ruth from Aberdeen.

Has there been any announcements from the SPFL to do with matchday squads and substitutions for this season? We were allowed a 20 man match day squad and 5 subs per game last season is that continuing? We'll struggle to make the 20 matchday squad each week if we're running with a 22 man squad.

Longridge looking like their brightest spark which we all knew was going to be the case as I'm still baffled that we released him and kept Leitch. Hopefully from today Sheerin's realised how shite Hall is, unfortunately given Dixon wasn't even in the squad we can only assume he's injured. Which leaves us with Hall and Mckay as the centre back pairing which is absolutely rotten. 4 trialists in the squad again, BPM confirmed the starter was Jaime Wilson, John Robertson came off the bench as he's in the Hearts second half goal clip (number 9 again) and I assume one on the bench was a goalkeeper who looks to have been on for the Hearts 3rd goal as well. Keena, Dixon, Nesbitt and Sneddon all missing from the matchday squad. Season starts next Tuesday. Magical.

A means for teams not to worry too much about arranging pre season friendlies as they'd have 3 cup group games first to prepare for the start of the competitive season. Yes we all want to see us win competitive games but for me getting the squad and tactics sorted for the start of the league season takes priority. We have 16 signed players with Keena rumoured to be out so right now we're going into the cup games with a squad of 15.

Yeah that's what I took from it given we have around 6 trialists it could be that one of them are signed before the Albion game. Hopefully got something else up our sleeve on the striker front.

An absolute nuisance who puts himself about must be a nightmare for defenders to play against. Real shame injuries seem to have got the better of him. Exactly the type of player we need though as you said.
