You can sign players that are out of contract or renew contracts outwith that window though.

Joao is another player we signed on the strength of scoring a goal as a trialist and proceeding to do very little.
He was never there! Went awol after the fofarshire cup final. Hard to pass judgement after only seeing him about 3 times.0 -
Before coming off the bench..
His first game at Gayfield was the 4-1 win against Berwick which he started and was subbed off so he couldn't have been booed before coming off the bench.
To be clear I don't agree with booing players and have never done it myself at a game as encouragement is what's needed. There is a difference in that and commenting on the forum that his performances have been poor.
I certainly hope Eddie has a great season.

Absolutely agree. There always seems to be one player that the Lichties moaners pick out as their target for venom. Ferns seemed to have been chosen to be that player even before he had set foot onto the pitch.
It was as if SAFC Jake had created some clones and sent them to Gayfield to vent his spleen on Eddie Ferns. It was quite horrendous to witness him being barracked and boo'ed before he had even had a kick of the ball. I really don't understand that mentality. If he is in a AFC shirt, he deserves to be supported and encouraged positively, at least from the start.
Your seriously suggesting he was booed at gayfield and this was before he even kicked a ball even though he scored the week before? I find that very hard to believe and I certainly never herd it.

Don't think there was that much moaning about him, just that when people analyse a game your hardly going to be waxing lyrical about any of Ferns performances. If he ups his game this season all the better for us. If not I'm sure he'll be gone by January.

I think if you sign him and watch him every week you will see why people rate him highly......again he didn't win League 2 Goalkeeper of the year, 2 years running for no reason at all.
Just to be picky he got in players team of the year but not the actual team of the year which was the Annan keeper.
I'm not saying he's not a decent keeper but I would prefer Gomes personally.0 -

We still have a better strike force already than the one we went into league 1 the last time. That's for sure.

It's a big step up and this year will be harder than last. The Brechin team that went up lost more than they won remember.
Just look at some of the players other teams are signing then look at last year. Forfar were the best team other than us and Andy Munro and Stuart Malcolm played a lot of the season at centre half together.
I agree that it's a big step up in terms of the top teams being full time but don't think there will be a massive jump for the part time teams. We competed well with east fife, queens park, Albion, stranraer in the past and don't think it's a big step to be competitive with them next season.0 -
Why sign Hester again for 1 year if your going to loan him out again. Doesn't make a great deal of sense. Skelly can play on the wing but he's more natural up front. Either Skelly or Hester should make a good partner for Doris. Skelly fits better with the way we ended last season with a front 3 of Linn Doris Skelly but very early days yet.

the problem is the likes of hammy stevie d mcord were all major signing targets for dc. in my opinion its vital dc stays to keep those players at the club if he leaves a good chance he takes them with him
While that may be the case the likes of Linn, Little, Whatley have had 4 managers and are still here so doesn't always apply.0 -
Yes it will be. If they hadn't won today and with Brechin going up, our New Year derby would be against East Fife, so Station Park is preferable.
Sure Raith will be playing east fife since they are next door to each other0 -
Gomes has been better and more consistent than McCallum or Morrison and would be more than happy for him to be playing next season.

I liked Gomes. Be happy to see him stay. Had a few real hairy moments in the last month or so though that might make DC think about looking elsewhere, who knows.
Every keeper makes mistakes doesn't matter how good you are. Gomes has been the best keeper we have had in a long time.0 -

Yeah if you look what happened last season Gomes got injured against Inverness U20 just before the season started and that forced us to go with Mutch from the start. Now only DC will know if he would have put Gomes or Mutch in from the start but that forced his hand. Having a proper experienced back up if certainly preferable.
