  1. I will when they go through, Spurs Porro deal is just great for Sporting, Caciedo and Fernandez both are completely crazy if and when they do move. Will any of them be as bad as Cucurella for value for money?
  2. That defender Porro that Spurs are signing on loan from Sporting Lisbon with an obligation to buy for €45m in the summer. He's the same guy Sporting bought last summer from Man City for €8.5m. A tidy €36.5m profit after one season.
  3. Not my own death, have no fear of it at all. The death of my loved ones, that's far worse.
  4. That's horrific. I'd only seen the limited video on the BBC website. I absolutely do not want to see any more. And in typical twitter fuckwit style, the first comment I read on that tweet is "he fled from the police what are they supposed to give him a cupcake and pat on the back? LOL" I feel heart sorry for his Mum/parents, they're not going to be able to avoid knowing exactly what happened even if they don't watch it.
  5. What a sad decision to have to make. At least you were good enough to spare him suffering, his leg must have been very painful. Sorry for your loss.
  6. They gave him a new 4-year deal in 2019 (with an option for a further year), it expires this summer. He's apparently on £75K per week and has started around nine games in the last two and a bit seasons. He hasn't even made a subs appearance this season.
  7. Considering they should be encouraging off-peak energy use, because we apparently all need smart meters so they can manage peak demand, the increase in Eco 7 prices seems ridiculous. Or maybe just shows up the fact that its got little to do with managing demand all about managing their profits.
  8. Martin Lewis did an explainer on his TV show showing that although the year ahead prices have dropped (mainly due to mild winter in Europe), they're still well above what we were paying before Russia invaded Ukraine, 4 x higher. Our energy bills are only 2.5 x higher due to the time lag of prices and when they set the price cap and because of the Government's price guarantee. Bottom line is the price cap is still very high, well above the price guarantee, so we'd need to see gas wholesale prices drop a lot further and for a lot longer before it means prices drop below the current price guarantee. And even then, they'll still be above the price guarantee as it is now, because it's due to go up again in April. So depressing as f**k. The windfall tax we have that still means the energy companies like that Norwegian one in the BBC article are still making tons more profit, and its not really a surprise that they are saying energy prices will continue to be a bit higher than they were in the past while using the old 'we need to make profits to fund all the investment' and are making noises about windfall taxes making them think about where to invest. They after all are the b*****ds that are making tons of money, and half the politicians are in their back pocket. So even more depressing as f**k. Edited to add link to Martin Lewis video on twitter
  9. It doesn't seem to matter what happens in America, no matter how crazy you think it is, there's always another story that appears that takes it up another notch.
  10. Driving towards traffic lights before turning right for slip road onto M8 in Glasgow today, lights were green and a number of cars had already driven through. The lights changed to amber and one car continued but the car right at the traffic lights slammed his brakes on as the light turned to red, just as the guy in the car behind put his foot on the accelerator to nip through. Much laughter from our car as we stopped a bit behind them and watched as the two guys jumped out shouting, "you stopped suddenly" and "the light was at red", much waving and pointing fingers. Needless to say the pair of fannies didn't bother to put their hazard lights on even once they'd stopped shouting and caused a queue behind them as apart from us no one realised they weren't just stopped at the lights. Am I right in thinking this is always seen as the fault of the driver who drove into the car in front no matter how suddenly it stopped?
  11. Secondary requirement is that you are unable to follow directions in google maps. *Not just Edinburgh
  12. Can you not just log into your account online and alter your DD without having to contact their CS all the time? Otherwise, if you can budget for it, swap to a variable DD so you still get the savings on a DD, but just pay for what you use each month.
  13. Is that a fixed deal or just on variable tariff? The price cap guarantee figures don't apply for Economy 7 & 10, but from moneysavingexpert.com "On Eco 7, Eco 10 or other non standard tariff? I'm been told that firms should reduce tariffs so the reduction works on the weighted average of the combined rates (around 4p/kWh for gas and 17p/kWh for electric), but it's up to firms how they implement this, so we can't say for certain what the rates you'll pay are." It might be worth registering on the mse forums for help with this, E10 tariffs especially are a bit of a specialist topic.
  14. There's not, but before prices rocketed some suppliers had already started making a smart meter part of the terms & conditions of their best deals. They'll do the same kind of thing with the time of use tariffs, making them cheaper, as Octopus already do with their Agile tariff. It's the same with paying by direct debit instead of the old quarterly on receipt of bill. You get the best prices by paying with direct debit because that's cheaper & easier for the suppliers. Smart meters might help some people budget better because they can get a visual image of when they are using a lot, but for the most part the positives for the consumer are a bit of a con.
  15. Its a hereditary condition he's got.
  16. It's already been agreed that we need to cut back on fossil fuels so ramping up isn't just a no from the SNP. As for nuclear, considering it takes 5-10 years to build a nuclear plant it's barely even a medium term option. Especially as Hinkley Point slips further and further behind it's planned start date every time they report anything, and it's now double it's original planned cost. It's not even just the UK being hopeless. There was a new nuclear plant in Finland that was supposed to be completed in 5 years, but was only ready at the start of this year (about 11 years later than planned and 16 years after they started building it, at 3 times the original cost). In France, their new one was supposed to be ready in 2012, but 10 years later they hope to start it working in 2023, at 4 times the original cost.
  17. If you're not on a fix the electric rate was supposed to be rising to around 52p, but the new price cap guarantee means no one will pay over 34p. If you're on a fix that is charging you more, it should get reduced (but might not be as low as the price guarantee rates), but if you're still paying a lot more you should be able to ask to cancel it and go on the standard variable which is covered by this two year price guarantee. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/energy-price-guarantee/
  18. That must be an out-of-date screenshot since the prices are now capped at 49p or less per unit?
  19. If Argentina did win the World Cup, he'd probably just retire.
  20. Tried the Cadury Caramilk but I think my mistake was putting it in the fridge. Will need to buy another and eat it at room temperature to see if its better than Caramac. Bounty (blue or red) from the fridge is a winner.
  21. This is bonkers. WTF do they think they are doing?
  22. There's only been deals available for existing customers of some suppliers (Octopus, Eon, British Gas are all I can remember) for months. For everyone else, the fixes that have been available have been eye wateringly expensive and always well above the predicted price cap. In the past month its just gone crazy and I think strichener's got it right, its gone way beyond price rises due to increased costs/Russian sanctions or anything else. The Government will have to come up with something, otherwise everyone but the energy suppliers will end up out of business.
  23. They haven't shelved it completely but they were advised against setting it up for now, and like flyingscot said the failures of other not-for-profit energy companies was one of the reasons. What has happened since then has only made it even less likely to happen any time soon. The energy market in the UK in particular is seriously messed up, and the Gov's decision not to maintain any kind of gas storage in the UK means we're completely in the shit this winter.
