The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

A kind way to put it is that Arbroath are skilled in the dark arts of the game; making a back at headers being a favourite. -

Brilliant football manager interview; friendly, engaging and open but ultimately said feck all Our budget is our business and Robbo is not giving any unnecessary financial encouragement to agents or clubs we might be speaking to. -

Funnily enough I just emailed them to ask what if any LC games they are showing on St Mirren TV. I would have expected this to be shared well in advance but it has become the norm to need to ask. Again £150 per year, so it’s not unreasonable to have some expectations of service -

One of the best decisions our club took, well done Killie and everyone else who refuse the pander to the self entitled hordes. -

So 371 professional appearances, a cup winner who is not only an employee of the club you support but also a fellow fan yet still you put the boot into him? FFS did I log into B&WA by mistake. Out of interest how many professional games did you play in? I don't think I will ever understand some of our fans. -

Fair enough, I considered the grouping of teams to be the format of the competition and the timing to be separate. -

TBH if we had played Montrose in a friendly I would have expected to win, we were awful I have honestly felt this way since they changed the calendar, just my opinion -

FFS, you are building a straw man argument to make a point. The difference is the cup started on July 15th and the league starts on August 6th. I believe the first games of the season should be in the league and that the players should be given an adequate time to build MATCH fitness during what is a relatively short preseason. I don't need you to agree with me yet you seem to need me to agree with you. I believe this, you don't.......... fair enough. -

I have no issue with the format, just the timing of the start of the competition. The summer is traditionally when clubs do the majority of their transfer business and to have a major cup competition start on July 15th when clubs are still trying to recruit and get fitness is unhelpful. -

I remember that game well, looking back the Bankies had a good team but still a terrible result. As an aside, after we signed Mike Conroy from them he was terrible until he left us and became a goal machine again, the St Mirren striker curse was alive and well even in 88. -

Totally agree, though I also agree that having it so early in the season devalues it. -

Regardless of whether he’s slower than Joe, one is under contract and one wasn’t. Joe was rightly earning good money and the manager wants to use that wage elsewhere and Joe was out of contract so he moved on. If we had just come off a terrible season then I would be more concerned but we finished top six so I trust Robbo’s judgement in how to best use the limited budget he has and if the comparison is with Gallagher, then paying out his contract to offer Joe new terms would have been mental. -

I liked big Joe and wouldn’t have minded keeping him but if we struggle in the league, he will become Maldini instead of the decent but relatively slow centre half he actually is. We were gash today, no question but releasing him is not even in the top 10 reasons why we lost today. We lacked any sort of creativity and Grieve for all his efforts is not going to score enough at this level, Madron probably won’t either but at least he has the excuse of being new. As a team we are not set up to have a lot of possession so I’m expecting to see a different shape and performance at ER next month. Bad day at the office but we didn’t become a bad team over the summer, onwards and upwards. -
