  1. Yes!! It's Novani, but aye. Small world. Did you see the play?
  2. Aye she loves talking about bodily functions. I mind her on Graham Norton and she describes being turned on by someone or something and she was so graphic about it people were absolutely stunned. She's great value.
  3. She's wonderful. I saw a cracking interview with her recently for, I think, Aye Write? She's an unashamed potty mouth and has a gift for rhetorical creativity. This would have been a nice end to Alan Moore's introduction to "V for vandetta".
  4. My best friend's da' was the owner of that until he died in 2011. My pal took it on for about a year after. He wrote a semi-autobiographical play about it called "Cracked Tiles". It's very good. The Hippy Chipper has a lovely ring to it though .
  5. See you on the bus. I'll be the one wearing a Scotland top. Teckle. I'll sit beside you then.
  6. How in hell does the USA get above Thailand?
  7. Going to just head down for it as I managed to get a seat on the NETA bus. I'm just hopeful that the boy who was next to me at the Ukraine game didn't buy the 4 game deal. He had a fucking bugle (no euphemism, a literal, actual wee trumpet) and would blow it in lieu of any shouted or clapped encouragement. He seemed like a decent sort, but the blowing of a trumpet when there's people right next to you who are 1. not doing that and 2. not wearing ear protectors is the very worst of behaviour. Anyway, a tired 1-0 to us, with Robbo falling asleep against the front post every time we defend a corner.
  8. Excellent article mon frère. The Fraserburgh game sounds like a great occasion. I used to go to uni with the Chairman's wife, so I look out for their results etc. They seem like a great club. I loved the bit about Somerset too. In the sunshine it's absolutely beautiful.
  9. Salt is white, vinegar is colourless. No need for S&V to be blue. Walkers changed their C&V to blue while I was in high school (I left in 2000). I know this is PTTGOYN but surely there's a statute of limitations.
  10. Aye my rational brain was telling me I was wrong as this sounds like a very hipstery place.
  11. Yorkies are fucking awful dogs too. Not a huge fan of any wee yaps, but I'm utterly baffled why anyone would enjoy having one of those in their house. For some reason I'm imagining said dog owner having lip filler, fake nails and sunglasses that cover half her face. Am I close?
  12. Fuckin hell @GordonD and @Zen Archer (Raconteur), I've been having a rough old couple of days but that gave me a big belly chuckle. Cheers chaps.
  13. Not in cafes. Restaurants are dog free except for service dogs, but there are cafes now that actively encourage dogs (I swear there is now such a drink as a puppycino). There are at least two such cafes up here. This one (Cult of Coffee) isn't a dog cafe, but they do show up a lot. Dog owners are a largely sensible bunch, and dogs are great, but I feel there is an expectation to be utterly charmed by a'body's dug.
  14. This is exactly it. The Nats are just playing the game here. They're also a broad church and there will be a wide consensus within the party regarding the royals. They're not a socialist party. Post indy there will be a call for a referendum on the royal family. It's not a battle that needs to be fought before there are the powers to do so. I'm quite sanguine about people accepting honours and don't particularly see it as some kind of class betrayal.
  15. I'm in a cafe right now and a dog owner came in with two barking dogs. One hasn't stopped barking. Dog owners who bring their noisy b*****ding dogs into cafes deserve a nail gun to the eye.
  16. Also gifting a ticket to any worthy (or unworthy, make your own mind up) P and B denizen as I don't fancy spending the £40 on the return bus. I'm still in a massive huff with this team tbh.
  17. Aye I think international management is more suitable to an older candidate, someone who's had a career already. McLeish was still young and would have been unsatisfied with another campaign in a part time job. When it comes to suitable candidates to replace Clark (hypothetically, at the moment) I want the SFA to go down the FAI route and get third party funding to pay for a top candidate like they did with Trappatoni. Or at least fucking sell it as a prestigious job. And definitely not just give it to one of their pals.
  18. Aye I think if I look at it as part of the "music hall" type of comedy then it's very good. There are, as I said, some jokes that are absolute gold. There's one where they're dancing together that I still think about. I had heard about it for years before I ever saw any of it, so I had it built up as something special, but I had already seen Scotch & Wry and Billy Connolly, so F and J could only pale in comparison.
  19. Ach it is very much of its time. There wasn't much, if any, ethnic diversity in Glasgow (and much less in the wider central belt) at the time, and using epithets such as "chinky" or "darkie" were considered as acceptable, if slightly uncouth, descriptives. Considering the other, less savoury (to say the least) racial lexical territory being explored in the 1960's and 70's it can be seen as mild. It's easy to judge things by today's standards, but I think that consideration has to be given to the culture, time and place which produced the comedy. I don't have the same affection for Francie and Josie, but some of the jokes are very good. Rikki Fulton was an absolutely fantastic comedian too. Tam Cowan has been preparing, in the method style, for the role of a 60 year old man for the past couple of decades. It seems like the role he was born to play.
  20. Aye I reckon that it isn't patriotism, but bad faith ad hominem that is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Assuming there's an agenda when questioning whether the manager is the right man for the job is either dishonest or obtuse. I'm a fan of the national time and I admire Steve Clarke hugely. His man management seems to be excellent, and he is, by all accounts, a fantastic coach. Whether he is getting the most out of this current group of players is what we should be focusing on, and is the main point (I think) of this thread. For me the jury is still out.

    The Boys

I was thinking the same thing. I'm no lover of gory violence but in this series it's so over the top that it's pretty funny.
