You've not really thought very hard, the majority of countries with populations similar to Scotland have small top flights where clubs play more than once home and away. You can't expect Scotland to have the same system as countries with ten times the population.

It'd probably end up something like the Coppa Italia with the higher ranked team at home and the top four entering at the quarter-final stage.
