  1. Crawford, by my reckoning will enter his 8th year as an Ayr player if he signs on this year, two years under Reid, three years Roberts and  two years with McCall and he is only 24. Would like to see him stay and get a move up the way somewhere, this season was shaping up to be his best, full time training had paid off and he had started to score goals, he was our top goal scorer at one point early on. The injury will hopefully put potential suitors off and he'll be back next year, maybe even get a testimonial against an EPL boys team in front of 1200 people come 2020 if he is lucky.

  2. I heard Moore is a target for Kilmarnock, not sure how true it is, the same person told me Clark was replacing Rodgers at Celtic.....

It was vital we re-signed one of the two and hopefully Moore will follow, they are both different types of player and score different types of goal, I'd expect both would be capable of scoring at least high teens in terms of goals in the championship all being well.

  3. McCall said in his interview that a big signing could boost season ticket sales, offering a star player extra money to stay could prompt fans to want to invest in a season ticket.

I'd imagine the players would have  a deadline for answers, maybe a Friday or Monday and would resign shortly after. Hopefully this week they will announce  some who are staying and maybe some that are moving on. Devlin was pretty quick to knock back any notion of staying last year, I'd have thought that if Moore or Shankland was desperate to leave or had a great offer that they would be off by now.

Ideal scenario would be both sign in the next week and season tickets go on sale with an early bird discount, on or before the standard 25th of the month payday.

  4. Alloa, part time with the potential of Jim Goodwin being odds on favourite to replace Jack Ross at St Mirren should he go.

If we went down next year without the play-offs, shut the club.

Alloa would be a better addition than Brechin have been but their key players have proven not to be good enough for the championship, depends on what they do over the summer I guess.

  5. It is entirely possible to spend time in Prague without visiting a brothel or lap-dancing.

When I stayed in Prague I used to meet guys over on stag parties all the time and they would always say, it must be great living here, cheep bear and hoorhooses every weekend.....These things are available in every major city but you chose not to, in most cases, where you live. I wouldn't say Prague is any better or worse for this kind of thing than London, or Paris.

The city of Franz Kafka and Vaclav Havel, Milos Foreman and the velvet revolution yet it is synonymous with tits and beer.

  6. I managed to take in Slavias 2-0 victory over Plzen at the weekend, Plzen could have been crowned champions with a win but the reverse means that Slavia are now six points behind with three games left. Both teams have much the same run-in playing Dukla and Teplice, Slavia have a slightly harder game against 4th place Jablonec.  Slavia have ended the season well but I think they will end the season competing with Olomouc for second rather that with Plzen for first.

Because I was flying back today I didn't get to the MOL cup final, the Cz national cup last night where Slavia beat Jablonec 3-1 at Mlada Boleslav's stadium.

The wall of police around the pitch looks a bit excessive

Are Ayr United fans confident that McCall will stay with them. With our chief executive leaving for the SFA and a lot of uncertainty regarding the future of our manager it had crossed my mind that I had wondered if McCall might consider applying for the chief executive role or if it became available the managers post?

I think his ambition has gone and he is just happy being in a job now, Ayr seem to be a good fit for him and he has raised the professionalism of the club a great deal.

We had a rookie chairman (now owner)who wasn't just new to Scottish Football, but new to football in general and showed a great deal of naivete, he hired Mark Roberts and the whole thing  turned  even more rotten, we were looking like becoming a Clyde, Stirling Albion or Airdrie and bottoming out in league 1 or 2 with crowds of about  500.

McCall coming in gave the whole place a bit of a shake-up and I am sure his experience at Clydebank who were going bust, Morton who were getting pumped by Hugh Scott and Airdrie who were going bust is being used by Cameron now.

While he didn't have an immediate impact on the team, took us up in a distant second place through the play-offs in his second year, didn't seem able to change things leading up to a relegation and has frustrated a few people this year despite having the clubs best season all told (goals, games won, trophy win, derby win) for 30 years, I still don't think you would get in to double figures of fans wanting him to leave.

He is talking about aiming for the top four in the championship next year, which when you look at Livingston this season is achievable I would settle for a drama free, safe with about five games to go sixth place, if we got that, without Bill Barrs millions then that would be a huge success, certainly compared to any Ayr manager in recent times.

  8. Reid was always picking up wee injuries

So I am surprised he was free'd

Sad but not surprised to see Boyle go, signed as a marauding full back but has hardly crossed the half way line for 18 months, competent enough player that I wouldn't have been upset about staying on, much the same as Reid. Ferguson, like Rose in his first year was played out of position and maybe a settled run at some point will bring him on.

  9. If it is anything like last year, Devlin said on day one he wasn't interested and the rest were either told they were going or given a few weeks to decide on the offer.

It will come down to money, however, if he has a girlfriend and ties to Glasgow then it would have to be enough money to tempt him away from it all.

If he had this kind of season in the championship then I could see him getting  a move down south.

  10. We need at least one goalkeeper, Higgins and Rose plus another two defenders. This is where being full time will benefit, picking up decent part time players like Bell with the offer of full time football. Boyle was ok last time in the Championship but he is another injury prone player, Ferguson went from brilliant to dreadful to ok over the season but is still young, Reid was ok this year but again, always injured.

I would be keen to keep Crawford, Doc, Adams and Geggan but you wouldn't get 36 games out of any of them. Kerr at 35 may be past Championship level.

McDaid, Forrest and McGuffie should all be kept, all are highly regarded at the moment outwith Ayr and may be tempted elsewhere.

Shankland resigning would be a huge boost, Moore is a very different player to him and has scored goals in the Championship before.

    Hart

Rose, Higgins maybe Boyle and Ferguson

    Crawford, Doc, Adams, Bell, Geggan

    Forrest, McDaid, McGuffie

    Moore Shankland Moffat

I think that would allow a core of this season to be kept with enough room to freshen up

  11. My only experience with Slovak football was when my girlfriends father took me to see Tatran Presov, his local team play FC Nitra, an tense afternoon where I sat with a man who spoke no English and I spoke minimum Czech at the time, watching his team getting soundly pumped.

Hello, im heading to prague the first weekend in may and both slavia and sparta are at home on the saturday. Any recommendations for which one to go and see. Its a stag do so looking for a few beers during the afternoon nearby too! Cheers

Slavia v Pilsen are currently the top two teams in CZ, Slavia are currently 5 points behind Pilzen with 6 games to go. It will probably be the game of the season in Czech football.

Sparta v Zlin, Sparta have struggled the last couple of years and Zlin were outsiders for the league last year after coming from nowhere but are currently in a relegation fight.

Out the two, Sparta are easier to get to, the Gererali Arena is a walk-able distance from the centrum through the Letenska park. Slavia is easier to get to by tram, there is a stop 100 yards from the ground.

The 5th is also the Czech national teams first game in the ice hockey world cup, the game is in Sweden but it is normally a decent atmosphere in bars watching it.

Slavia have been consistent all season but have been brutal to watch, Skoda aside, there are very few goals in the team, Stoch and Danny were brought in as creative players but have been pretty poor. I am a massive fan of Husbauer though, plays a simple game and can be a nasty b*****d when he has to be.

I was travelling to Airdrie yesterday so I never got to see the game, the goal looked like about 75% of Slavia goals this season.

He must have been reading this, he managed a cheeky lob and a 25 yard thunderb*****d on Saturday.

The team should have got a point yesterday against a very poor Slavia side, and instead crumbled after a soft goal. I fear for their chances.

Going to Slavia-Karvina this Friday night. Any recommendations on decent pubs near the stadium would be appreciated!

There is a sports bar at the stadium, next to the club shop, there is also a beer garden area outside the hotel. You can get a beer while watching the game also.

I normally get the tram straight to the ground, there is a lot of decent pubs near IP Pavlova and Namesti Miru, you can get the 22 tram from there to the Slavia stop.

I have been in the following bar, it does tank beer, not sure if you have been to Prague before but tank beer is unpasteurised and has to be consumed two weeks from manufacture, the first time it is exposed to light and oxygen is when it is poured.

It if maybe 100 yards up from the Slavia tram stop

  16. I'm not sure if Pardubice is more of a hockey town or not, they used to regularly win the national championship but I don't think they get massive crowds there either.

When Czech folk ask me if I am in to football, they always follow it up with asking if I support either of the old firm. When I ask who they support , it is almost always Arsenal or Chelsea and then say they don't watch Czech football as it is hovno.  I think the ambivalence/apathy towards local leagues because of the Premiership has taken a lot of the money and development out of them.

CZ has a population of about twice the size of Scotland and have three teams regularly getting an attendance of about 10k so it is hard to see, other than a change like regional cross border leagues or cups, what could ignite an interest, although it hasn't really worked with the Irn Bru cup here.

  17. Roman Bednars old club  Příbram who Rudi Skacel now plays for could come up, they have been dreadful for years.

Pardubice, which is about half way between Prague and Brno could come up also. I have been to Pardubice a lot with work but never made a game there, the ground reminds me of Glenaftons Loch Park

I won't, they can take their anti-Islam banners and chants about Roma and Jews to the seaside leagues.

I've only seen them play at Eden and I don't think they brought enough of a support to display a banner, although my ability to read any banners in Czech is pretty limited.

Sparta were described to me as the Czech Airdrie

Anybody on here bought tickets on the day for either Sparta or Bohemians? Easy enough to get and any bother from the locals if there's 6 Scots in the ground? Heading over this weekend and hoping to get to at least one game.

Both pretty easy, Sparta is a bigger stadium and probably more used to non-Czech visitors. neither will sell out

Sparta has a ticket windows at the bottom of the stands
