  1. In hindsight we could have cashed in on Shankland and Smith in January and been in the same situation now.

I know we gave Nesbit a two year contract a few years ago as a great prospect and free'd him a year in to it but we need to tie players like McCowan, Smith, Rose and Shankland to three year contracts with a view to continuity and protecting us from having a squad wiped out in the summer with no cash return. It is unlikely we'd chuck about three year deals having just returned to full time football again.

Harvies deal runs out this time next year so he needs to kick on to make it at a decent level so if he does that next year, we wont see any benefit again.  Murdoch as well.

Structured contracts that give the players incentives and protect the club. I'd rather we continued the trend of finding gems that are free'd from other clubs rather than signing the likes of Boyd and Doolan.  I wouldn't be against signing either or both, but I'd rather see McCowan, Forrest and McGuffie get game time.

Loans are ok, Doohan was a success but Miller and Cadden weren't, and they were brought in at the expense of McGuffie and a certain extent McDaid.

  2. From the rumblings last season it sounded like McDaid was expecting the same treatment as Shankland and Moffat and was holding out for the best offer.

On his day he could be brilliant and off his day it was pointless having him in the team,if he can go somewhere and get more consistency he could be a decent prospect but I don’t think he’s done enough to impress anyone in the championship or above
Good luck to him though, he wasn’t the worst over the last two years

  3. I also know that the likes of Killie used to own / lease properties for the use of their foreign imports as Conor Sammon as an example had one of the houses behind Ruby Park beside the Park Hotel.

I think Johnstone and Jim Jeffries bought a couple each that they rent out to players. I know some Kilmarnock fans are annoyed about that and the way the hotel was carved up

Not quite yet: there's still one more round left to play on Saturday and they're one point off safety at the bottom of the table. They've probably got the easiest of three fixtures as well, although all three sides in danger are away from home.

Good to see České Budějovice return the top flight - hopefully they'll stay there this time at the expense of some Hamilton-esque, permaddidy outfit like Karviná or Opava.

I'd rather lose Příbram, They have had both Bednar and Skacel playing for them recently, I think Skacel still does and he was shite for Raith Rovers about five years ago so they have no place in top flight football.

Bohemians have a game at home to the already safe Opava so I can see a fairly uneventful draw. Bohemians are an absolutely mental club so I hope they stay up.

  5. Slavia beat Ostrava again tonight to complete the league and cup double. Milan Baros was sent off. yes, that one and he's still playing.

Trpisovsky has a fairly remarkable career, no playing experience and became a manager at 36. eight years later he has put some big names out of Europe and had Chelsea on the ropes in the last 8. Joined Slavia midway through last season, almost caught a Pilzen team that won its first 15 fixtures. I expect he'll either be poached by the national team or a Russian outfit before too long

Steaming on a train again, they play Sparta on Sunday. put your money on a sober Sparta

  6. were banik overcharging the away support or something?

It was the last away game of the season and it would wrap up the title I guess it was just to have as many fans travelling.
From the west to the east of CZ where Ostrava is, it’s almost a 4 hour train journey
  7. The last episode, or at least the last 5-10 min looked like just an advert for the spin-off series in the pipeline. Like after announcing that this was the last season they were offered more cash and decided to make a half arsed attempt to close out the main story...that had lost a bit of traction and kill off characters that will have a film career and unavailable to do the spin-offs

I'm guessing lower budget series,  Arya's continued adventures and some kind of Nights watch thing.

  8. The Czech League has a top 16, after two rounds of fixtures, there is a top six split and a bottom six split. The top half play each other once. The top three teams all get three home games post split. League points are carried over so it is not a play-off situation, the top team is Champion.

It is the same situation at the bottom, after five games, the bottom team goes down and the second and third bottom team play off against the second and third team from the second tier.

There is a middle section of four teams, they play-off against the bottom team in the top six and the top team from the bottom six for a Europa Cup place. In theory, every team has something to play for at the end of the season.

Slavia won the league on Sunday, with Pilzen second and Sparta a distant third. Dukla were relegated and  Bohemians are just above the relegation play-offs with a game to play. Viktoria Zizkov, the 5th team in Prague dropped out of the second tier in a Falkirkian fashion.

A good season for Slavia with the Europa Cup run, league title and the Mol cup to come.

  9. His loan is up and he'll return to Celtic for pre-season. New manager, Lennon or otherwise will look at the players he has and decide if anyone will go out on loan.

Will Doohan be first choice at Celtic ? no. Bain or Gordon might not be either, but they aren't likely to have one of them sitting in the stand and Doohan on the bench.

I would would Doohan to be back on loan at Ayr next year

  10. Henry Templeton is one of the very few players that put a smile on my face watching, he could beat players, stop and go back to beat them again just for the sake of it, much like Kevin McCallister at Falkirk, an absolute joy to watch.  Horace was close in his brief spell.

Teale was close, very inconsistent but at his best he was one of the best. Hurst as well, like Shankland, could win a game on his own. Duncan George ran the midfield against Rangers in the Scottish cup, I'm sure he broke Terry Hurlocks ribs and Trevor Stevens toe in that game. He ran the midfield against John Collins v. Celtic until he dislocated his shoulder, the booming noise his tackles made was fantastic. Marvin Wilsons time at the club was all to brief.

This season compared to Daziels title winning team is night and day, probably because Daziel used so many players and paid decent money for them.  This team feel like they have grown together.

I have had many other heros in my time watching Ayr, Ferguson, Kerrigan, English, Sludden, Cally, Ross Scott, Cammy Duncan, Tommy Bryce, Malky Shotton.....but Shankland and Templeton have been the best, raw talent, gifted players I have seen.

I’m not sure as it was a while back but I think there might of been a muck up in his registration which allowed him to leave for free (rather than us getting compo).

There was a bizarre rant on the old Honestpage from either his dad or someone close to the family complaining that Ayr missed the deadline to offer him a contract, he was wanting to stay at Ayr and the club was a shambles.

Surely he would have just rejected the deal from Stranraer.

    He's a bombscare keeper

  12. MacLeod took Ayr to the top tier in the 70s and since then, apart from one year when Daziel spent more money than most premier league teams and got us to (a distant) third we are in with a chance of matching that league placing and be 6 games away from a potential promotion. without spending a transfer fee.

    Credit where credit is due.

  13. McGuffie, even when being in and out of the team last season was being tracked by a couple of big teams in England. There is a player there but he maybe needs a run like Crawford and Forrest did at the start of their careers.

McDaid held out last year till later on in the window and apparently made comments about what he deserved to earn. he's been excellent in two games, good in a handful of others and below average in the rest this season.  I'd prefer to keep him but if he got better money at another Championship club then good luck to him.

  14. The kit launch coverage has been the usual Faux-outrage tabloid stories while showing the picture, so the marketing works for Ayre.

Very much a "ISN'T THIS SEXIST YOU CAN SEE HER TITS...LOOK AT HER TITS" kind of vibe.

One of the stories went in to detail of how Ayr, under manager Stuart McCall are favourites to win the championship.  The pictures are tiresome now, the first time it happened they were on the threshold of being acceptable in society, went through the shocking phase but are now just a bit creepy.

  15. Shankland looks like the player that was at Morton and St Mirren. I think his confidence has taken a dunt because of his injury, having not so much his longest barren spell but his only barren spell since joining the club and perhaps not getting a solid offer from a club of the stature he was being touted for.

Needs a cuddle and a summer holiday. Get him back for the play-offs

This looks like a Superbad/National Lampoons type film cast. three hopeless losers looking to get to third base before the end of the summer

The one on the right will shit himself at some point in it, the one  on the left is the sarcastic one, the one in the middle gets caught wanking in hilarious circumstances.

    Judd Apatow directs.

Anyone managed to catch a pre season game in Prague?  We are going first week of July and would like to go see one of the many teams (not Sparta).

I've been to one at Slavia the last couple of years and I went to an Admira Praha game last year as well because one of my old work colleagues lives near their ground. Depends on where teams go for pre-season but there are about a dozen teams in Prague to chose from.
