  1. The Czech league has ended now for the winter break. Plzen and Slavia have been neck and neck for most of the season but Slavia go into the winter break with a four point lead. Sparta are really struggling this year and currently sit in fifth, 17 points  off the lead.

Plzen have dropped out of the Champions league and have drawn Dinamo Zagreb, Slavia managed to to qualify for the latter stages and will play Genk.

  2. Auchinleck are closer to Kilmarnock and Cumnock play in black and white. this has been the basis for me to have been on the side of Cumnock over the years in the bitterest derby in world football.  Most Cumnock fans I know hope Aye do well, every Auchinleck fan I have met has been a p***k, without exception.

Tommy Sloan will have Talbot well prepared for the game, one of the, if not the best managers in junior football of all time.

Jack Ross failed to get anything out him at St Mirren so while it may financially be a good move it might not be the best footballing wise.

I think a club might panic in January and make a move, the more he scores and the longer we stay in the title race the more valuable he'll become.

Either a pre-contract or a straight out purchase, I think we'll know in January where he'll be next season. Even if somehow we got him on a longer deal, I still think he'd get his big move.

  4. Highlights from tonight, McCowan scoring from 10 yards out while a Stirling player was on his arse on the 6 yard line and having it ruled out for offside and Ayrs number 7 taking a corner and putting the flag further than the ball.

Other than that 4 great finishes, Ayrs number 2 impressed me, Ferguson and Higgins strolled it, Doc played the full 90.

  5. A woman at my work is reasonably dense, Continually gets words wrong, like Pacifically/specifically, electrical/electoral register etc but she went on her first city break last weekend and has spent all week telling folk she was in Madrid but pronouncing it Mad - ar - eeeeed in a faux-Spanish accent that is making me feel violent.

  6. During the Kennedy take-over attempt, he said that the Camerons were not continuing in the same spirit as previous owners where the club was bought for a £1 and the debt was then transferred. The Camerons took over from Barr and were obviously not gong to continue the same level of investment. they also had an income tax bill to deal with as well as shedding a full time playing staff.

Selling the catering, hospitality, car park and shop rights may well have been a way to secure quick funding to keep the club running short term.

Camerons record with managers have been his downfall but McCall has been a masterstroke. He managed Clydebank, Airdrie and Morton through dark days and clearly knows how a football club should be run, McCall taking over and a complete turn-around in the clubs fortunes on and off the park can't be a coincidence, it wasn't run this well when Cameron was here full time.

I can see McCall running the majority of the club soon along side McTrusty and Miller with guys like Kerr and Higgins being in the dugout.

  7. Watched the first half, the score and the Rangers TV commentary were enough to put me off.

Tom  - Yu were at Ayr Hugh

Hugh - aye, Something derogatory about Burley, Stainrod was the man

Tom - McCall and him fell out didn't they?

Hugh - aye, don't think we should go in to that here though

Tom - HaHa yes, you are right, we shouldn't.......it was something to do with a gift he left him...........in his shoes.........a smelly gift..........a bodily fuct....

Hugh - YES, the less said about it

Like I said when the draw was made, take the humping, cash the cheque and move swiftly on.

And we avoided a real embarrassment

One week after the opening of arguably the biggest culturally significant building in Scotland in the past 50 years, the effect it is having on the City of Dundee is already tangible.

  9. All through the demise and re-re-re-re-building of Rangers we haven't laid a glove on them,  including the worst Rangers team I have seen last time out. They now appear to have a bit of momentum and I  am expecting an absolute rodgering, although it would be quite ironic if this was the occasion we beat them.

Reading between the lines of McCalls post match interview at Alloa, it sounded like he didn't want to say he has no interest and its not important but hinted that he has no interest and it's not important.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moore, Docherty, McDaid and McGuffie start.

And Forrest, he likes a goal against them.

  10. I was on jury duty at Ayr sheriff court last year, the clerk came in and said that if anyone knew the accused or any of the witnesses they could be excused.

They then read out that it was a crime in Cumnock and read the two accused names. A murmur went up and one old boy along from me said "WOAHFUCK!" and 2/3 of the room left.

It was delayed so they never got to selection which was just as well because there was only about 12 of us left.

Has anyone visited the Vinohradský pivovar? It got mentioned in the Guardian this week as part of a typical click piece on good places to have a beer abroad; it's the first that the place has come to my attention. I'll be visiting Prague over the Christmas period and wouldn't mind visiting somewhere different alongside the likes of U Sudu and U Slovanské Lipy.

I've been once, the beer was ok but the place felt a bit soulless, smart enough decor but a bit soulless.

I used to go to this place every night after work, about £1.25 a pint

Prague hasn't been immune to the hipster pop-up boom but craft beer isn't something you would expect to sell well when you consider the great beers already on offer beyond Urqell, Budvar and Kozel.

I do however like this place,  and there is a sister shop 2 doors up that has the best hangover bursting soup

  12. The Czech top league are six games in so far. The traditional top three domestic teams, Slavia, Sparta and Viktoria Plzen all won the first four games but Slavia were the first to blink with a 2-0 defeat to Jablonec.

Sparta have since drawn two in a row putting them in fourth behind Menzels least favourite Czech team and apparent racists Ostrava, who have former Liverpool and Villa player Milan Baros.

This weekend, Slavia play Plzen at Eden and Sparta play bottom team Dukla.

Slavia signed mostly domestic based players in the window and have retained the bulk of last seasons squad, they were unlucky to go out of the Champions league to Dynamo Kiev, they dominated both legs and lost 3-1 on aggregate.

The early season form of Pepe Husbauer and Milan Skoda has been impressive, had Husbauer been playing like this 5 years ago he could have been playing for a bigger team in Europe.

How much money would be reasonable to change for two days out drinking in Prague?

Depends where you go, you are probably looking at 50Kc a beer in most (non tourist) bars in the centrum, I normally work out Kc at about 1000Kc to £30 so probably about £1.50 a pint.  It breaks my heart because I used to get a pint of Kozel for 17Kc

Irish/tourist bars you are looking at twice that.

Sticking to beer (no strip clubs/sports bars) and 48 hours of drinking you could spend less than £100

Murphy was good at the dark arts as well. He knew when to tug a jersey or give a push when the officials weren't looking. Geggan was doing that with Hippolyte today and getting a reaction.

I still love when Murphy got Joe Cardle sent off and you could see him chuckling as he walked away from Cardle. Class.

Speaking of Murphy, I see Annan have started pretty well 10 points from 4 games.

Remember him getting McCallister red carded in the last game of the season meaning he'd miss the play-off first leg

Then the second leg at Somerset, shouting at the ref "he keeps nipping me" like a 5yr old Lee Wallace.
