  1. I just said the same thing on the match thread. In the handful of games Lyness has played for us he's never let us down. It's a strange phenomenon the second choice keeper. Lyness is 29, I'm not sure of all the clubs he's been at but I'd reckon Erhahon probably has as many appearances in league football as. Lyness. How do you keep motivated? Probably says quite a lot about him as a person as well as Langfield and the rest of the coaching staff.
  2. Thought that was fairly comfortable today. Everyone played well, Erhahon was brilliant. Lyness as well was very assured considering he never plays first team games. I'd be frustrated as a Kilmarnock fan that a keeper hasn't played in 2 years and they never even tested him but credit goes to our midfield and defence as well.
  3. Hibs were there for the taking tonight. Silly mistakes cost us. Poor pass from Doyle Hayes but even with 10 men I thought we looked comfortable, then Tait gives Porteous a free header. I didn't think it was a penalty but may have been the angle of the camera as there wasn't many complaints from Fraser or the other defenders.
  4. 6 days ago some folk weren't sure if Goodwin was the right man for the job.
  5. It's impressive that he hasn't played in a year yet at 85 mins is galloping past their players.
  6. The Bebeto story from that season is great too. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/st_mirren/1213708.stm The quote from Hendrie when asked about Bebeto is brilliant. "Our defender Tommy Turner is proof that some players can play in the first team at 37, but some players can't." Also wild that we were trying to get Daniel Amokachi, who was a PSG at the time. Instead we ended up with Fenton, Renfrum and Moussa Dagnogo.
  7. I'm not going to go and dig up stats like minutes and goals or whatever because I can't be arsed. Certainly with Forrest I think you're being quite selective. You've only considered this season, and he scored a lot of goals in the league Cup group stages presumably against poorer sides. Durmus bagged a few for us in a short season last year and McAllister has chipped in with goals too over a few seasons. Don't worry about going to check for me, I don't really care. I'm not saying they are definitely better than Forrest. I'm saying I'm not convinced that Forrest is better than them. You obviously are, which is great for you as he plays for your team.
  8. I wouldn't argue too much with that. We both watch more of our own clubs and probably have a tendency to lean towards our own players. I'm assuming you wouldn't swap Mullin for anyone in the Ross County team, despite him not getting a game for them this season. I'm not convinced I'd swap Forrest for Durmus or McAllister, who aren't regular starters for us. Again, that's maybe down to not having seen as much of Forrest, and my own bias. What's not in question is that, at the moment, Livingston are a better side than St Mirren. Martindale is a great story as well, inspiring even and I'd like to se Livingston beat St Johnstone in the final because of that.
  9. On current form not many. Alnwick I think would, Tait and Marcus Fraser maybe. I think Obika is better than Thomas as well and Brophy is better than Robinson, albeit not on current form. I see Livingston much more as a team than having a group of particularly talented players. I don't mean that as a criticism. Take Josh Mullin for example, struggling to get in the Ross County team but has played really well since going back to Livingston. Other players like Devlin, and Forrest I doubt would've been in high demand from other Premier League teams but have done well for Livingston. Reilly and Longridge will do you a turn as well, I've no doubt. Every season since you've come up you've lost some of your best player but it hasn't affected you. You always seem to bring in guys that do a job. It must be down to the club, presumably Martindale. He can spot a player and he gets them playing well as a unit. I envy it.
  10. True and it is a concern but it's also worth noting that we've played the fewest games. Ross County and Dundee Utd haven't scored that many more than us and we've got 3 and 4 games, respectively, in hand over them.
  11. Other than Scottish football, I don't tend to watch that many games. English Premier League games sometimes and the occasional Spanish game. Are there many teams that play 2 up front? St Johnstone did against us, Dundee Utd do, Kilmarnock?? I can't think of many in teams in England that play 2 up front, I know that Atletico Madrid do and are flying. I'm not saying that we shouldn't play 2 up front but I'm also not convinced that it will be some sort of silver bullet. We've had some excellent performances this season playing with 3 in the middle of the park, 2 wide players and Obika up front.
  12. What a disappointment yesterday's game was. Fair play to Livingston, they've been on a great run and I think they probably just about deserved their win yesterday. We played a lot better in the second half, we showed a bit of fight, but we still didn't ask many questions of Livingston. We had a bit of pressure but I don't remember their keeper having a save to make. That was the most disappointing thing. In fairness Alnwick didn't have a great deal to do either. Anyone suggesting that we should be considering Goodwin's position needs to calm down a bit. There were folk saying similar earlier in the season then we went on an 11 match unbeaten run and on Sunday morning some folk (possibly in jest) were talking about a statue. Now some are unsure if he's the right man for the job. Fickle football fans. We've got a young and relatively small squad, they will have good games and go on runs but maintaining consistency over a whole season is always going to be difficult.
  13. I actually thought the coverage was alright yesterday. I think it buffered maybe once or twice during the game. I binned the St Mirren commentary because it was so biased and bordered on ridiculous at times. The St Johnstone commentary at least had a semblance of balance. The adverts throughout were a little annoying but I suppose clubs need to find ways to pay the bills.
  14. We have played 3 games fewer though. Not that there's any guarantee we'd pick up many points from those three games right now.
  15. I'm guessing he wasn't 100% today but it's clear that Obika is our best striker just now (Brophy and Quaner could come good). Erwin has had plenty of chances to show what he can do and I'm afraid he's come up short. It was a good chance for MacPherson to make an impression today and unfortunately he didn't take it. Needlessly dived in twice and got himself sent off. The second one particularly is so stupid. St Johnstone should've won far more comfortably than they did. It's difficult to know what's caused such a dip in performances.
  16. OK, he's taken a bit of a knock but Quaner looks nowhere near fit enough to be playing yet.
  17. Not convinced he got the ball. Either way, don't dive in when you're on a yellow. No need to do that 20 yards from their goal.
  18. Had to switch back to the home commentary there. MacPherson has no complaints there, a stupid challenge to make on a yellow, yet the boy on St Mirren TV is saying he clearly got the ball. Or maybe I need a new pair of specs?
  19. St Johnstone probably slightly the better side, although neither team have looked great. Thought we should've had a penalty for handball but the ref gave a foul against Brophy.
