This link might have been posted before but it’s a list of Scottish v English club games going back more than a wee while. No idea how accurate it is.

1961 Hearts v Dundee programme. The cover picture is from a Hearts v St Mirren game. Probably the 0-0 league draw at Tynecastle in front of 12,000 two weeks earlier. This was St Mirren’s gisth visit to Tynecastle in 1960/61 drawing 1-1 in a League Cup Sectional Tie on the opening day of the season in August (30,000) then winning 1-0 in the Cup QF in March (34,325). They met eventual cup winners Dunfermline Athletic in the SF and replay at Tynecastle on April 1 (0-0, 31,930) and April 5 (0-1, 16,741).

Back to English clubs knocked out of the Cup visiting Scotland on Cup days. The same day Arsenal visited Dens in 1962, Everton met Hibs at Easter Road drawing 1-1. Whatever happened to the great Hibs historical results web site?

Playoff time
@scottsdad v @D Angelo Barksdale v @The Captain
The question is this:
a) NZ Northern League side Bay Olympic play at Olympic Park, New Lynn, Auckland. What is the capacity of Olympic Park?
b) A total of six goals were scored in their home game yesterday v Tauranga City. What was the final result?
The answer to b) will only be used if no clear winners for a)
DM your answers before 23:00 BST Monday 6 May 2024.

The 1962 European Cup Final between Benfica and Real Madrid was also on 2 May. I’m sure this was televised live so could have been a factor for lower crowd at the Uruguay game. In the first year of the Home Nations move in 1969 only 7,483 turned up for the game v Northern Ireland.

On 2 May 1981 5,762 people squeezed into Firs Park to see Dundee defeat East Stirlingshire 1-0 to secure promotion back to the Premier Division by having a goal difference of 4 more than St Johnstone. Hibs were top 5 points ahead. East Stirling finished 11th out of 14. I moved to Australia earlier that season, my last game was a 4-0 home win over Falkirk in September, the second last was a 2-2 draw after being 0-2 down v Berwick Rangers who had Dave Smith ex Aberdeen and a few other clubs playing for them. Also saw George Best playing for Hibs at Dens for the second time that month. In the days before internet I didn’t know the result of the East Stirling game until reading Monday morning’s paper.

Lucky get. Its chucking it down in Sydney (and meant to for the next week) and I have no alcohol. Enjoy.
You seem to have been getting a lot of rain, quite wet in Gosford last night. We’ve had Ta total of 12mm of rain in April with 5.0 and 5.4mm the highest and it only rained on 6 days, last being 20 April. We might get spit on Saturday but more chance between Tuesday and Thursday next week. Enough to drive you to drink.

Slightly one sided game of aerial ping pong happened yesterday. This would be the football equivalent tier 8. Fitzroy’s home ground is a five minute walk from where I live.
