I could believe this if I had any trust in his ability to sign decent players.

Boruc - not one aspect of his game is better than Gaston's and I'm not convinced he's any better than Adams.
Delaney - Has been fairly anonymous in the few games he has played, attacking and defensively.
Walker - Showed decent glimpses defensively, poor distribution
Teale - Could find half a dozen defenders as good or better in League 1/2, results in Ricky playing on left of back pairing which causes problems
Mackinnon - No idea what he offers our midfield.
Robinson - I've seen some shite Arbroath teams in my time - he wouldn't get a game for any of them. Playing him is disrespecting the SPFL.
Murray - Like Mackinnon, I can't work out what he offers us.
Reilly - Barely played but showed glimpses.

Even if he did have any success rate signing players, would we really have any confidence in him building a team out of them?
    I wouldn't.

Campbell's time was up and he (as well as the board) did us dirty but no one can convince me we wouldn't have had a better chance of staying up if he was still here.

Good part-time managers don't tend to stay part-time managers too long which results in a dearth of 'proven' candidates and it is a completely different task to full-time football so doesn't always translate. Airdrie are a good example, actually. Their squad is fairly modest for this level yet they are extremely well drilled and try to play with a clear style. As much as you can try, you can't implement that in 4 hours of training per week. At part-time level it is really about recruitment, personality and man-management. As stated above, McIntyre's recruitment has been poor. You can see from his interviews that his personality is hardly inspiring. As for man-management, we've had the Bird/Hylton and now the McKenna/McIntosh incidents along with the shabby treatment of Ali Adams.

When I think of the money wasted on full-time players over the last 2.5 years, with absolutely no on-field benefit, I wonder if we wouldn't have been better off trying to get some kind of youth system up and running again. Gold might not be the answer for first team manager but he'd have loads to offer if we did something like that.

I’ve been a pretty vocal opponent of a youth setup in the past, but Montrose seem to bring through players who can contribute so why can’t we. Could even have a few young lads from further afield in scotland, and house them up here instead of hopeless punts from down south.

  2. Really feels like we have gone from watching a team of players who would go to war for each other, to a team of absolute individuals in a pretty short period of time. Just irks me that so many of the squad involved in relegating us will leave and probably never ever give the club a second thought, relegation is probably a minor inconvenience at worst to them.

There was a lot of mud in the spectator areas on Wednesday night and a few did slip or fall on it, Its the first time I have realised how much work would need to be done there if they did get a licence and move up a level.

I almost slipped on my arse earlier in the season there. Wouldn’t take much effort to pave round to the enclosure surely

Those of us with longer memories will recount worse seasons than this. After Dick taking over we were 2nd bottom of LG2 and won the league season after. Similar situation with Dave Baikie, bottom to promotion. This was always likely to happen at some time as has been said before in posts. To be the only part time side is really tough and the injury situation was a major factor in how the season has gone. We are not down yet, but it seems likely to be soon, and we need to rebuild and be challengers for the Lg1 title next season from day one if we are relegated.

I'm sure he doesn't mean literally the worst league season (i.e. league placing), and instead just means that bar that 4/5 game run it's just been totally miserable and we've looked so far off it. Have experienced shit seasons before but probably not with as many pumpings as we've received this year, can definitely sympathise with what he means.

Are Carnoustie any closer to gaining their SFA licence? Blairgowrie were rumoured to apply for one too.

    Carnoustie are miles off.

The way I see it, he never let us down.  Did he even concede a goal when playing?  Plus compared to our previous second keepers in recent years, he at least didn't give me the fear when he took the field.  Did he do anything to show he wasn't good enough?

Plus its not just a case of letting a second keeper go, he became an international sensation and one of our few bright moments of a miserable season.  To milk all that attention as a club, and then just decide "nah" seems a bit off.

Even then, if we were having an okay season, it wouldnt be that big a deal, but given that he was basically the only proper good news story in 18 months, its a shame how its gone. If only he'd been renting a flat and funding the meadowbank flats!

No, he didn't, but there is evidently a reason he's been a junior keeper all his career?Better to be proactive, than reactive. The international sensation stuff is pointless too, was embarrassing he was having to play up front in the first place.

  7. When Pink came away with the nonsense about players in the lower leagues not being good enough, I really started to think they were losing the place. It seems we moved from a long term transfer strategy, signing the best part time players who already had decent jobs outside football and would wish to remain part time, to a short term one where we sign guys looking to prove themselves and get a move off the back of their time here. Obviously 1 or 2 players like that is fine, that's football, but it feels we have totally neglected the core of the squad, filling it with punts from afar who are away as soon as they are here.

It all started going wrong with the quasi-hybrid system that was phased in from January 2022 when the likes of Michael Bakare and Sam Ford arrived.

The only people who have benefitted are the Booth Brothers - getting top dollar from the club to rent out their properties to the players which has basically bankrolled the building project out by Tarriebank.

You've obviously got a problem with the Booths going off your previous posts - sort it out in person, they are easily approachable - rather than posting like a shitebag on here.

Different from what I've heard. I've been told the penalty was a stonewaller & our 4th goal killed the game off and there were no troubles for us after.

I thought it was a clear penalty, can't really remember anything after that bar a few late tackles from Roselea. Second time I have seen Roselea, impressed again and playing it under the lights at Links is brilliant. They are miles ahead of the Vics atm sadly.

Sad to see Mudie go though, was hoping he’d get more of a chance under Price

Was at a Broughty game the other week and thought Mudie was class, Gavin Prive was there too and whilst Tosher didn't have his best game still absolutely roasted the full back a few times.

  11. A much better point for Panmure than Lochee Utd tonight - dug in well in the second half to keep the scores level although another couple injuries for them to contend with won't help going forward. Lochee never seem that much of a cohesive unit when I see them, relying on individual brilliance rather than a good team performance to win them games.

With all due respect, no, you are.

This isn't just based on this thread. I've seen some fairly wild takes from Arbroath supporters since 2022 that seem fairly delusional. I'm not the only one who thinks so.

We do have a few fans with more outlandish views, but them aside, there's several valid reasons for us to have been less than enamoured with some of Dicks behaviour recently.

  13. Lochee now signing Panmure's captain...can't remember the last time a week went by without Lochee or Broughty signing a big player (relatively speaking obviously) from another team in the league.
