  1. By all accounts Cummings is the brains behind everything BJ does and is absolutely essential to him, so it'd be interesting to see how he fared without him. Although i still feel he will probably get away with this, the last few years have shown that they can basically do what they want, get away with it and still have a large percentage of the population stick up for them. Yet another of thing to add to the list of events that would've finished any politician/party years ago but is just forgotten about now.

  2. Had a few pals at uni from posh areas of Aberdeenshire and always found it weird that they all had an almost English twang to their accents. Possibly due to English parents or whatever but it was interesting that near enough all of them had it. Don't mind the regular Aberdonian accent too much, but am puzzled by the Dundee accent which i'd never heard until uni.

However i'm from the borders myself and have been told that i have a shocker of an accent.  Pretty much had to put on a neutral Scottish accent when i moved away as it became quickly apparent that communicating with anyone who wasn't also from the borders was a bit of a challenge.

  3. Depressing that whilst it's abundantly clear he's helplessly out of his depth, all he has to do is say things in an emphatic voice, point his hands at the screen and chuck in a bit of persuasive language and his supporters will fawn over it. Enough folk to see him remain in power too.

  4. Tom English has been bizarre throughout this whole thing. Had always thought that he was fairly bright and articulate (albeit a bit of a tit) but he's turned into a raving nutter here. Know there has been allegations in the past about him being a direct mouthpiece for folk, but it does seem here like he's arguing for things he doesn't really believe/understand himself, and completely nailing his colours to the mast in the process.

  5. Sturgeon extending our lockdown for three weeks will mean zilch if BJ announces immediate measures to relax it down south.  Regardless, i get the feeling that as soon as it's relaxed a wee bit (even being 'allowed' out a few more times a day/for different things) folk will just take it to mean that they can do whatever they want again. Numpties are chomping at the bit to break the current lockdown so as soon as the government give out any sort of signal that it's no longer completely necessary folk will take the piss with it.

I’m starting to see more and more meme types being posted by people opposing the lockdown. A few weeks ago it was all the “share this if you’ve stayed in your house all weekend” pish. Today quite a few of my FB “friends” posted one along the lines of “if you can’t see that a virus with an 98% survival rate is being used by the government to control you, you’re compliant”, type of thing. It would be nice if there was a middle ground meme!

Have noticed more of this too. A few local businesses have opened up again near me, and a couple of pals working in very much non essential jobs are expected to go back to work this week. Couple weeks of right wing opinion leaders spouting shite about how we need to get on with our lives etc, and Johnson giving out the feeling that we're well on our way to 'beating' it has led to folk not taking it as seriously. If the lockdown is to be extended by another three weeks, i can see folk just starting to ignore it by the second week.

Not sure where we stand relative to other nations, but this whole thing has made me realise that the percentage of absolute thickos in Britain is much higher than i thought. Not sure if it's education or whatever but it's astounding how many stupid c***s are taking all their advice from Facebook and WhatsApp, folk i'd previously thought were quite switched on.

  7. The weird professor is at it again. You'd think he was a cult leader with some of the replies too. Folk thinking we'll be back to normality by July. This whole message that we might be close to the end here is going to inevitably lead to folk thinking they can just chuck social distancing and go back to normal and we'll be back to square one.

He works for a private health firm and Britain's only private University, and it appears he hates the whole idea of the NHS. Prone to exaggerate his CV.

Aye he has a few shady links.  This tweet and the first few replies go into his backstory a bit

Turns out he's a bit more than a doctor, but he's been posting loads of positive stats and facts about current rates (with no sources i should add)  for the past month or so, and his replies are filled with right wing types saying things like 'great, positivity at last, youre the only person i listen to now, media scaremongering!!' patter. It was most noticeable about a month ago when he'd only just made his account and had loads of followers. I should add that just about everything he said weeks ago has been proved wrong.

A few folk on twitter flagged it up when he was at it every day, very weird.

  10. Have noticed a lot of the bot farming alt-right twitter opinion leaders - Alison Pearson, Hopkins, Paul Joseph Watson etc  are starting to turn on the NHS a bit and reject lockdown, subsequently making thousands of union jack emoji numpties/bots say the same thing. What are they after here? not sure what the endgame is.

Also probably been mentioned on this thread, but that doctor who keeps posting misleadingly positive stuff about the virus on twitter (who has links to the government) has weirdly picked up a massive amount of followers considering he's not famous and only opened his account recently. He also seems to have right wing twitter in the palm of his hand. Some shady shite going on here to influence public opinion imo.

  11. This should finish Johnson, but the reality is that the Sunday Times article will make a ripple online but won't do much else. Everyone knows what Johnson is like but in reality a large chunk of the country don't care. We're now at the stage where folk view characters over experts, and the vast majority of folk who voted for the tories in December won't have their minds changed.

Only way i could see public opinion changing a bit would be if the Sun went after him, but that's not going to happen. Know the Sunday Times is Murdoch-affiliated but it has much less of an impact and if i mind right he hardly touches it these days anyway.

  12. If they're compensating for the lack of crowd by bringing back the full scale ridiculous, 90's type stuff then i'm all for it. Get the technical wrestling to f**k and just give us folk fighting in daft places doing daft things. Some of the performance centre stuff was enjoyable for short spells but if you take away the crowd, atmosphere and buzz you're taking away 80% of what makes it enjoyable. Last night would've died on its arse if Undertaker vs AJ was just a regular fight in the ring.

  13. Listened for a few years on the way to games but i haven't regularly listened for a while now. As others have said, they only really have about 5 reference points and you're guaranteed to hear at least 2 of them every episode. I'm in my 20s myself so can vouch that whilst i get most of the 40 year old references they're just a bit tiresome and reek of an auld guy in the pub who repeats the same patter every night, although i suppose that's maybe what they're aiming for.  It's only natural that if they've been on for 25 years everyone will have heard all their stories, but you can pretty much predict what they'll say and make reference to on any topic now.

Having said that i understand that i'm probably not in their target audience, and it might still be popular with folk around their age but at this point for me it's just background noise if i'm in the car as opposed to something i'd make a point of listening to.

  14. Back at home in the borders and it's frightening how many folk are still carrying on as normal. Folk down here have a bit of an outsider, cut-off mentality at the best of times and tend to think that all that stuff on the tele doesn't apply to them and isn't aimed at them, but f**k me the amount of old folk just ignoring everything and going on as normal is going to have serious consequences soon.

My own grandad who's 88 is still hellbent on going out and doing his shopping this week. He's generally still very bright and switched on too so it's not like he's a numpty, i just think folk from that generation don't really like being told what to do from younger family, friends etc.

Although pictures of heaving markets in London today full of young middle class types maybe show that we're just in a country full of thickos regardless of age. Could bite us on the arse big time.

    What was said?

He was asking Wishart what the position was in terms of non-PFA members,  if they'd be helping everyone or just their members, and then if they'd be accepting new members. Quite straight forward stuff but Wishart got quite worked up by him asking it and avoided answering, which led to Stewart asking it a twice more, which seemed to get Wishart's back up for some reason, as if it was completely out of order to be asking a reasonable question.  When he asked it the third time Wishart started laughing too, which Stewart then had a go at him for.  Wishart eventually mumbled through an answer but in the end came out of it looking a bit daft.

  16. In 4th year of Uni at the moment and still none the wiser as to how assessments and deadlines will be impacted. The uni have essentially just been saying "we'll give you a shout when we know" for the past 5 days now. Meant to get the definitive email today but nothing as of yet.  Tbf to them they're going off government advice which is all over the place at best, but it'd be handy to know where we stand with stuff due in the next few weeks and exams right after.

  17. Probably been mentioned a few pages back, but the government very deliberately just advising businesses to close and so on, as opposed to forcing them to shut and possibly having to give them compensation, or allowing an insurance claim just sums it up.

My Dad runs a pub and is lucky to be in the absolute minority that are doing ok just now. He'll be closing it off his own back soon i'd imagine, but a massive amount of independently owned pubs will go under if they have to close without some sort of compensation/insurance.
