Saw a video on YT saying vanguard had made available a load of funds to UK investors so have moved all my pension into VHVG as the fee is 0.12% instead of the fund it was in which was 0.22% or so.  It's basically the same fund but without the small caps.

Decided to increase my pension contributions again as Rishi's NI cut comes into effect soon so putting that in my pension to get the tax relief and reclaim the rest via SA in April.

Might be able to retire at 60 if I can keep the increases up in the next few years.

Interesting! I've barely been looking at Vanguard pension stuff as it's the same 3 funds I use and used HL as it had more choices. I'm off to investigate!

When I was a lot younger I was probably at the heart of arranging any nights out, Christmas or not. From about 15 years before I retired Christmas nights out filled me with dread. Absolutely hated them. The difference was that when I was part of the team everything was fun, but when I was promoted to be manager of the team I had no wish to spend more time than necessary with most of them.

I have a post somewhere on this thread about somewhat mistakenly joining the work social committee, then somehow being in the thick of the action for organising a massive corporate style Christmas party with a recently dumped control freak. It was exactly as much fun as it sounds.

In all honesty I love a Christmas night out, always have, probably always will. For the main reasons being, you get to see people you don't like making a total c**t of themselves due to their inability to drink. I also love an awkward social situation, I'll stand there in the silence and watch people cringe with how awful the conversation is no problem.

I usually try to get a group of good c***s to go for a few pints with, then turn up later on just as people are starting to make an arse of it. Wonderful.

Anyone else being spammed by an "I can show you more" post featuring a picture of a lass with her arse in the air in every Twitter thread?

It comes up even if I'm on my backup account at work so I'm fairly sure it's not influenced by my search history ()

    Yes. Same.

Twitter / X is a mess right now man. I get the above on threads as well, one of the most annoying things these days is you see a post and think, ah lets see more or try and find some context and it's just random gifs or unrelated crap.

Also seeing a lot of these CCTV idiots and 1000 ways to die vids, both quite grim at times, but I have followers who follow them so see them on the "For you" section.

My wife bought me a box of mince pies on Tuesday and there's only one left...

I've delayed mine, I've been waiting to hear @mathematics review on the Tesco mince pies before I dive into them, might want to plump for something else. I also want to get some cream for them to go for the full mince pie experience.

  5. Best / cheapest approach probably just to get booking all your long distance trains on the 17th January then, I think the long distance ones won't be too busy with a lot of fans opting to base themselves in the general vicinity of the stadium on that day. I have no other basis for this prediction though.

This might have been covered already, but see as long as you have tickets for games during the euros, can you use any local trains if you're in the region that has a game on that day, but you don't have a ticket for that specific game?

Because of the Princess Diana stuff? How bizarre.

Yesterday I walked past a hotel named after her. Seems to be decomposing at a similar rate.

Where do you live, the Gaza strip?

*I strongly condemn any acts of violence towards civilians in Gaza, or any other place in the world for that matter and I do not support Hamas or Israel military engagements.

Felt a disclaimer was necessary the way this thread is going*

I'm back to finding stupid petty things really annoying me. I've had a rant in the C**ts on the road and Infuriating Things Your Partner Does threads about stuff that really is petty and not worth getting myself into a state about but I can't help overthinking stuff.

I've got plenty work to be getting on with but no motivation to get it done. I'm good at looking busy but if my boss was to ask me what I've done in a productive sense this week my answer would be the square root of hee haw.

Sometimes I think its the time of year that makes me feel like this but I've got a good job that pays well and I enjoy when I've got the motivation,  a supportive partner and an amazing wee boy. I just can't stop feeling empty and fed up

Probably is the time of year mate, Christmas wind down man, try not to overthink it and embrace the more relaxed approach.

I've just written a very passive aggressive to do list in the run up to Christmas for me and the missus, because between her and the two kids they are the messiest people in the world, truly world leading experts in accumulating clutter and leaving it lying around the house and it infuriates me. I've not let this go, but I'm letting lots of other things go, just gotta pick some battles and let others go.

If you've only got c***s bad driving and petty things to worry about, you're doing a lot of other things right, take solace in that, don't be too hard on yourself for feeling fed up or can't be arsed.

Looking to fill a hole in a routine I'm doing. I'm doing biceps, triceps, shoulders and core but need another group to work out as well. I don't want to do chest because its too much arsing about with the seats, lying down, using daft machines etc. I cant be fucked with it, I only want to do stuff I can do with barbells, dumbells and at a stretch the cable/rope machines. I need another set of 3 exercises I can do with barbells/dumbells to tie all the below together so I have 12 to do over 3 days.

    Bicep:
    Barbell Curl
    Hammer Curl
    Concentration Curl

    Tricep:
    Overhead Cable Extension
    Tricep Pushdown
    Dumbell Extension

    Shoulder:
    Overhead Press
    Upright Row
    Deltoid Raise

    Core:
    Squat
    Deadlift
    Barbell Row

I agree with ICTChris it's a major lift and you're missing out, big time, you either love flat bench or hate it usually, hitting the chest it's like you need to f**k about with form and you probably won't properly feel it unless you have some sort of arch in your back and pin your shoulders to the bench.

Instead just do dumbbell press on an like a 30 degree incline, pec fly machine and then some high to low cable chest fly's then you're done.

Don't want to sound like a know it all bastert, but I'd ditch barbell curls for dumbbell curls, probably would do them seated on an incline with your arms hanging  straight. Concentration curls I'd replace with single arm curls over a bench as the range of motion is better and you just cannot cheat here. Both quite humbling exercises, but bloody good ones. Or just fucking stand and curl dumbbells but would probably avoid a barbell in the beginning.

Would also say, look at proper warmups especially prior to shoulders or you'll be in for a world of pain and frustration. Just google rotator cuff warmups, gyms will have bands or buy your own. Upright rows done wrong or with too much weight will f**k your shoulders right up as will overhead press if the form is wrong so be careful there.

I phoned them this morning and they aren’t budging, they say loyalty points can’t be changed after the game has taken place. 😢
I now have the dilemma do I try and get a ticket for myself when the 11 point phase opens or wait to see if any are left at 10 points (which I think is highly unlikely!) 🤔

I would be 100% buying a ticket if you can. Then trying to work out after how to get a ticket for your son. I've got a mate coming with us to Germany, doesn't go to Scotland games, barely goes to his club team, but somehow always manages to get tickets for games he wants, even European finals, pays a bit more, but gets them.

  10. I think I might be the only Thistle fan looking forward to this and almost kind of fancied getting County in the cup. Must be a vengeful person as I really want to beat them as soon as possible, in a one off game I think we definitely can if we keep improving.

Getting a win up there will feel very good, for the players and the fans. A loss, ah well it's a cup game and we move on.

Question for those that got the second chance to buy tickets yesterday.

    How did it work?

Did you get an email with a link and if so was it to the normal ticket portal to your account or somewhere else?

Did you find out by logging into your portal and see that your initial list of ticket applications had changed?

I have had no emails and my ticket applications are all still red so was just wondering what the process is.

Not holding out much hope but just making sure I do not miss the opportunity by ignorance.

    Cheers

I got an email from the UEFA ticketing saying

    Quote

    Tickets available!

We are pleased to inform you that, as a result of failed payments by other fans, some tickets became available and you were next in the lottery ranking.

Login to the same account used when applying for tickets and choose the category and quantity you wish to purchase. To give you every opportunity to secure tickets, you may see tickets in a different category than you applied for. Only a limited number of tickets are available until 24 November, 16:00 CET.

First come, first served, so don’t delay

There was a "Get tickets" link I followed in the email, not sure if the tickets show or not just by logging into your account, would defo check your emails and log in anyway to check.

Did you apply for that in your original application? Up to you of course, but you'll be kicking yourself if Scotland end up there, and you'd be really unlucky not to able to sell it back on the resale hub if not. I got that one in the first go, just down the road from Berlin.

P.S. If it was 4 tickets they were offering, that's a load of dosh admittedly..

I think it was one of my originals yeah, this was before I managed to get up to 12 points, so deciding not to bother based on if we do manage to get there I think I should be able to get a last 16 ticket through the SSC. We'll be guaranteed to both be one of 1D, 2F and progress if I don't buy it, so really I'm doing us all a favour.

Some people reporting offers of unpaid for tickets, if you haven't had an email it could be worth checking on this link:

    https://euro2024-sales.tickets.uefa.com/account/advantages

Have been told the email says this "Only a limited number of tickets are available until 24 November, 16:00 CET", and arrived about an hour after the offer appeared on the portal.

Got one of these for the 1D v 2F last 16, but tbh, not really arsed, so not going to bother buying it. Cat 1 or 2, just doesn't seem worth it likelihood Scotland won't progress and I'll be home by then.

Do you run on the treadmill? For some reason I always find I’m much slower on that than when running outside (unless my Strava is fucked). I only ever go running with the gf and therefore unsure what my maximum would be at 5k distance, in fairness she is much better than me at longer distances but from about 10k down I’d be faster than her. Last one we did this week was ~23mins which felt not bad.

I do feel I’ve plateaued massively in terms of lifting though. Can’t seem to progress past where I’m currently at - not sure if anyone has any tips on that front at all? Also find myself skipping leg day a lot as tend to be absolutely crippled for football on a Saturday with DOMS, which then just turns into a vicious cycle of not doing lower body 4A0C309C-6B26-4029-BF71-BB446AEBBF05.png.93bd6401839417f33d8430f372b40067.png

Properly imbalanced now where my bench is about the same as my squat.

What lifts are you at a plateau?

Sometimes dealing with a plateau just means, bump the weight up and start trying to reach the reps you got at the previous weight or drop set it afterwards. Overhead press is a classic for this, so this is what I usually do.

Legs you need to hit 2 or 3 times a week to avoid DOMS, I tend to not dedicate a leg day anymore and just do it after arms or back day or Sunday should be a rest day but sometimes just do legs instead. Creatine also helps avoid DOMS.

Does anyone have a stretching routine they could recommend? Something for general flexibility, not too long. Just something to incorproate in at the start/end of a workout

Was about to try and describe what I do with bands, but this chap more or less covers it. Bands are great.

My shoulders are like chocolate, so I do a lot of rotator cuff warmups with bands, arm 90 degree from body, elbow at 90 degree and then rotate using a band or light weight. Would just google rotator cuff warmup as my explanation is probably awful.
