Jackson is an excellent signing for Glasgow. I'm actually quite optimistic the way the squad is shaping up, especially around international times. By my reckoning, depending on injuries, we could feild a team with Pyrgos, Horne, Grigg, Johnson, Jones, Hughes and Jackson as the backline. That's pretty strong. We could also have Kebble, Rae, Allan, McArthur, Big Brain, Swinson, Harley and Ashe available, as well as some (hopefully) very decent youngsters in Hastings, Horne, Cummings and the younger Fagurson. That looks a better second string than we've had in ages, and considering some of them would have been first choices for the national team not too long ago shows Scottish rugby is finally managing to develop a bit of depth.

You would say that, given the way Dumbarton benefit from the blatant west coast conspiracy that shames Scottish football every season.

I agree, he gives us that pace and directness that other teams hate to play against. He's not the finished article, he still makes a lot of bad final decisions, and he's not the best at covering his fullback, but he's a standout at this level and would walk into any other team. Thing I was most pleased with today though was Reilly and Sutton. It was an absolutely textbook big man/wee man performance from them both, and they absolutely murdered those two centre halfs, who I was lead to believe were supposed to be good.

Great win and some excellent performances, especially from Reilly, Sutton, Morgan and McKenzie. Reilly and Sutton in particular absolutely destroyed that Centre back pairing, both of whom looked absolutely soft as shite. Big downside for us though was the first 20 minutes. If we do that against any of the good teams in the league we will be punished.

Is it not just more to do with the fact Glasgow can sell theirs and Edinburgh can't? I'm sure Edinburgh would be charging the same if they thought they could sell them.

It was just a friendly obviously, but I thought there were some worrying signs in all honesty, basically that we were easy to score against whilst struggling to put away at least five really clear cut chances, including an absolute gift from Dundee that we still missed.

It's a good Fiji team. Some big players from the French league will be available for this one (not least Nakawara), and they'll be desperate to win at home. Think this will be a very tough match, much tougher than Italy. Reading the bit Barclay wrote on the BBC, it's a bit of a travesty that more big teams don't make the effort to get out there more. Happy to steal their players, can't be arsed to turn up and give them a game. It's shite.

The problem with Finn going to Montpellier from a Scottish point of view is that he will get flogged over there. No rest weeks when the 6n is on, no extended summers and no early release to join the international squad. They will get their money's worth, the way Glasgow do with the foreign players.

It might depend on Farrell's injury to be fair. Russell is the only one he's picked who actually should have been there in the first place. He's almost deliberately avoided picking anyone else who could conceivably trouble the first team, picking some Welsh plodder instead of Gray for example.

I just saw that. What a twat. They probably would have actually. Finn got another kicking today! Really quite excited about this team now. That was good today. We still look dangerous with the ball, but we are now a good defensive team. We still have the Twickenham debacle hanging over our heads, but only the most blinkered of Welsh/English/Irish fans would now consider us a bad team. Special word today for the back three. Nobody was convinced, but they didn't let anybody down.

I really would like this team to play against Fiji as well. I don't want Russell, Nel, etc going to New Zealand with no chance of playing.
