Airdrie v F C Edinburgh
CapitalDiamond replied to diamondman's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
Agree, ref wasn’t the determining factor. Young Riley sadly was. Kudos to Edinburgh. Get to keep us now after the three wins. Turning it around from 2 nil down away from home is no mean feat. Celebrations seemed OTT, but if a siege mentality helped drive them then fair play. Always liked when we were the Beastie Boys! -
When you gotta go, you gotta go! The defecation comment I read as a joke (based on the fact that no one would ever want to have a bowel movement in a bus cludgie? I’d say the same about football grounds!!). I don’t think anyone would suggest that laying a cable on a supporters bus in front of families was the logical way to increase fan engagement Just because it’s a joke doesn’t mean that it isn’t pointed and it was clearly at the expense of the Owner. There’s always been a lot of that in Scottish Football culture since at least the Fanzine Age and some anyone is completely within their rights to find it distasteful……I’d say it’s a stretch to call that the most depressing thing in the whole Fingergate Debacle. Calling it out as such, looking into who had liked it and naming that person’s profession on here feels pretty “ugly and personal” to me, but we’re all different I suppose. I’ve been out of Airdrie for over 10 years now, have we suddenly become particularly interested in the standards of behaviour that Publican’s and School Teachers ought to be adhering to?

I think you’ve answered your own question there. Had Gary done this at any time in the last 50 years he would not have had any kind of ban!! However with the Quitongo tribunal still in process the club want to be seen to take action against any complaint made. Agree with your point that he’s responsible for his own actions. Just don’t think any Scottish Football Fan would have thought this would have been a foreseeable reaction. Only last August Football Nation gave a you Airdrie Fan a free jersey for saying on a video clip Airdrie 2 Motherwell 0….. F*#% Motherwell (accompanied by a middle digit). Granted that was funny because it was a wee boy and the dad hastily ended the video message. Even Motherwell fans saw the funny side of it in the Comments Section. Bit of a sea change in 15 months

I think all clubs probably have similar policies about fan behaviour but don’t enforce them so I think that’s unique to us (or driven by the incident with Nat’s brother) albeit that kind of incident led to the family section. My opinion (which I’d also expect to be unpopular as usual) is that the rush to toxic comments about the board is as disproportionate as the ban handed out. I do think we should be able to criticise the club but from my perspective it’s done in the naïve hope they might take views into account. The letter citing an indefinite ban was before anything hi social media. The letter in itself was too condescending for my liking. You can interpret an indefinite ban as being at the discretion of the club, but the incident had already occurred. What made it impossible for them to put a number on it at the time it was written? Hopefully good news on the pitch today with a positive result.

From the limited press coverage there has been from the tribunal, there was a suggestion from Rico’s lawyer that the club had failed to notify previous racism accusations to the league and apparently the response to that was along the lines of “we are new to football club ownership and didn’t know the rules.” Do we really think that there’s any logic in coming down on Gary like a ton of bricks for low level inappropriate behaviour or that this ban is going to have any impact on the tribunals interpretation of events which happened over a year ago? I can understand it up to a certain point, but I don’t see how a one match ban here would actually have been better? Is a zero tolerance line for any inappropriate behaviour with indefinite bans handed out for anything really sustainable for a football club?

Airdrieonians vs Falkirk - 06/08/22
CapitalDiamond replied to 18BAIRN76's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
Thread is painful. Surprised it was only 700 you brought last year for the equivalent fixture. Felt like more. Can’t make the game as I’m at a wedding but hoping the Bookies have it right and Airdrie win. As others have said, I’d expect McGlynn to be a very good appointment for Falkirk and so we really need to be looking to perform while you are in transition. -

Congratulations to Queen’s Park. Over the 2 games created far more than us. Simon Murray a class act and the Queens Bench was far stronger than ours. Hard one to take for us with the points gap and missing out on promotion to a team that we’ve played 8 times and not lost in 90 minutes to. Them’s the breaks. Need to dust ourselves down and fight for top 4 v Dunfermline, Falkirk, QotS, Kelty, Alloa, Montrose and anyone else who makes a run of it next year. -

I believe you guys will be opposite the main stand. That’s based on me asking the club for a ground hopper mate. That’s what I was told -

Back then Sommerset had the skinniest goal frames I’d ever seen. It was like they were made of copper piping painted white and you could see the top corners had joining pieces that the post and bar fitted into. The bar didn’t actually break that day, it popped out of the joining piece. I always like quirky things like that (or say a beautiful pavilion). Shame that you’ve moved to standard ones now but they should cope with half a dozen fans swinging on them!
