  1. "Is brain cancer affecting captured John McCain's brain? Obamacare will collapse like non-hero McCain's pres run. SAD!" - Donald Trump's Twitter drafts, as aides try desperately to convince him not to press send.
  2. Think Drogba signed his first pro contract at 21, and Di Natale spent his first three seasons in the third and fourth divisions. I'm not saying Gauld will be like those two, he may well turn out to achieve nothing, just saying there's no need to write him off yet.
  3. Antonio Di Natale didn't play in Serie A until he was 24 and he's sixth on the all-time top-scorer list. When Didier Drogba was 24 he was playing for Guingamp. At 21, Gauld still has 10-15 years ahead of him, no need to panic because he's not tearing up the Portuguese league.
  4. Wonder if a certain fart-loving Celtic fan is on here... http://www.afc-chat.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=39414
  5. The Master twist was excellent - or would have been if they hadn't ruined it in the "next time" and the trailers. In fact, they ruined both that and the fact they were creating Cybermen. Can't imagine how pissed off you'd be if you'd written and shot those things as reveals, only for the BBC to spoil them. Still took me a while to twig that it was Simm, but once I did it ruined a lot of it. One of my favourite episodes - when the nurse deals with the "pain" but it turns out she only turned down the voice box: chilling - but I wish I'd seen it without the spoilers!
  6. Is she though? Or could this just as easily be a violent rape?
  7. That's how representative democracy works. We, in theory, elect people who are better qualified than the average person to decide on the issues facing the country. They take decisions which they think will be in the best interests of their constituents, and if their constituents don't like it they can vote for someone else. This is why calling a referendum on EU membership was insanity, as the vast, vast majority of people - and I include myself in this - weren't remotely qualified to make that kind of decision. I was qualified enough to know leaving was a stupid idea (though I'm no fan of the EU), but plenty has come out since the referendum that I'll freely admit I didn't know anything about.
  8. Actually went to this today. Went along with a Hibee and two Mackems, but the real reason was to show appreciation for Stevenson - an absolute rock in my Hibs save on FM07. Three league titles in four years. Thought Boyle was excellent throughout, caused them problems all day. His goal was a bit of a riddy from the Sunderland goalkeeper, but was really impressed with him. Thought Simon Murray was useless though, despite his goal. Maybe he'll come good, but he looked useless. The absolute highlight though was Cattermole. Seeing him make a red card worthy foul to spark a rammy in a friendly testimonial is absolute peak Cattermole. Like going to see Messi and seeing him dribble a whole team, the perfect distillation of the player.
  9. I know it's Talking The Game Down (TM) but every passing year proves that we really are an utter diddy nation. Even the arse cheeks, the so-called 'Big Teams' are an embarrassment. The last two times Celtic actually managed to make the CL proper, they've managed 1 win and 3 draws in 12 games. And they're the best team in the country by a million miles. Admittedly The Rangers 2012 played their first tie this year, but we all know what happened there.
  10. The lyrics on that are fucking atrocious. Don't mind the tune, and I'm aware Oasis had some clunkers (slowly walking down the hall/faster than a cannonball?!) but Jesus. "The cops are taking over/while everyone's in yoga" "What's it to be free man/what's a European?"
  11. Apparently over 1,200 empty homes in Kensington and Chelsea, people just leaving them empty and letting the value rise. The cladding which may have caused the inferno was apparently added to make the building look nicer for the luxury flats around. I don't want to sound like a Marxist, but how long can we really go on with the richest in our society leaving homes empty, while the poorest are crammed into unsafe housing? The government cuts fire brigade numbers, votes against safety rules for landlords and people burn to death in entirely preventable fires, having warned beforehand this would happen.
  12. Romagnoli, arguably. And Bacca until the last six months.
  13. Refugees always seem to sneak in there for some reason...
  14. This has aged well: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/opinion/sport/gordon-parks-kilmarnock-abandoned-duty-8335408
  15. Someone (presumably Juve fans) defaced the monument to the Torino team killed in the Superga air disaster. Buffon responded today and was as classy as ever. http://www.football-italia.net/102087/buffon-‘superga-vandalism-inhumane’
  16. The Football Ramble and Football Weekly are essential listening for me, haven't really been able to get in to others. If there was a scale of fitba podcast from "mates talking about football" to "serious analysis" I think both fall into the sweet spot in the middle, albeit with the Ramble more to the "mates talking about football" side and FW more to the "serious analysis" side. I find 'The Game' podcast from the Times far too dry and others too focused on "bantz". Will have to listen to Sid Lowe's other one, but I don't keep up with Spanish football as much as I should.
  17. This whole thread is an awful clash between my leftie-liberal side saying "these people clearly have problems, this isn't right" and the more judgemental side saying "feck me this is both hilarious and terrifying".
  18. I'm a Yes voter, but I do have some concerns with this idea of these big financial companies moving to Scotland post-Brexit (assuming we could stay in the EU or be fast-tracked in). May has already hinted that she'll give the city of London a "sweetheart deal" post-Brexit. If she does so, what would we have to do to attract these companies? Less regulation? Huge cuts in corporation tax? I worry it would lead to a race to the bottom, with the only beneficiaries being the big banks. Good thread btw.
  19. Just got this email from Labour asking for donations to fund the anti-indy fight. Jumping a little too firmly on the unionist bandwagon here...
  20. I was quite exasperated by the prospect of another referendum, but quite excited now! Know a few people who have switched from No to Yes in the wake of the EU vote, but of course that's not exactly representative. Yes can definitely win this time, as long as lessons have been learned from the previous time. Have to be very clear on the currency question, and put less of a focus on oil money.
  21. Think it's to do with Irish immigrants laying the tar on the roads back in the day. Could be wrong, I'm not fluent in ***.
