  1. Oh lads, do not get sucked into actually debating this nonsense.
  2. Deal. As long as we can keep hibs bottling two cups.
  3. Can we use this to retrospectively void hearts championship league title and resulting promotion?
  4. So they collated a whole load of varying data sets then put it to a public vote totally influenced by what team people support???? Up the dons.
  5. Yes, it was. No fans so you didn’t even get the excruciating angst amongst our support at being so comfortably dispatched at pittodrie. I switched off midway through 2nd half as it was just a group of guys knocking a ball about. Think you could have played another 3 hours and the highlights package would’ve remained unchanged.
  6. Was it not like 3-0 after about 2 minutes and then the rest of the game was a pathetic wee kick about. Good times.
  7. Did not know that. Exactly the type of stat that is the kiss of death for us. Don’t worry I remember that, I was there. A great memory.
  8. A big game for us this and a big test of Neil warnock. His first two games have not been particularly impressive but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt for differing reasons in both. This is the type of fixture that Barry robson could never get his head round so a real chance to show a turning of the ride. If we don’t then it would seem our league season will at best Peter out or get sucked into something worse. Motherwell a difficult side to read, clearly got something about them but doesn’t produce results enough. 0-0
  9. Can’t objectively moan about a home draw to a non-OF side at this stage, but I am not filled with confidence. Killie will be right up for this and will fancy it.
  10. Given the half time score I’m quite chuffed with this tbh
  11. I was really disappointed in Duk yesterday. I’m so desperate for him to look like the man of last season but it’s looking increasingly unlikely. Everything just feels so forced and laboured now. It would make such a difference to us as an attacking force if he could lift himself back to that level.
  12. February is the worst as all the six nations c***s start crawling out of their holes, trying to talk to you about rugby and how great ‘Finn’ is. f**k off.
  13. Well, we’re through. I was impressed with Bonnyrigg, played some good stuff. We looked vulnerable at times. Thankfully we scored at good times which probably killed the contest but not much to write home about. A pretty insipid performance all told again. We’re just not much fun to watch.
  14. Aye. Adam Rooney will go down as the better goalscorer when bojan goes in the summer but he’s clearly a much, much better footballer than Rooney.
  15. American sports usually are literally a closed shop though, no? Not to disregard you point at all. We suffer here (and every league in Europe other than one or two) from having a sort of continental pyramid system where domestic leagues have a vested interest in their teams doing well in the big European competitions. If we had a different league winner every season with varying degrees of even worse performances in Europe than at present then the coefficient drops and we effectively get shut out from the uefa scraps. This is the reality that no one ever says, our clubs are perfectly content letting the OF prop up the coefficient during good times and riding the wave. Aberdeen and hearts have done just that. American sports tend to be one closed shop league where none of these incentives exist therefore a genuine competition is fundamental to what they’re putting up.
  16. As @Sergeant Wilson alludes to, you can’t actually defeat the fact that there’s a huge market of people who ‘quite like’ football but don’t love it and therefore want more out of it than just a competitive game of football. These people want some or all of winning games, winning trophies, big stadiums, big crowds, celebrity players, off-field drama, big transfer fees, big technology and anything else you can shoe horn into make a game of football into some sort mass appeal event. A larger league structure and free tickets can’t beat that unfortunately. Our clubs average attendances are unlikely to materially increase based on incremental changes to format or pricing.
  17. The use of the argument ‘…if it helps [insert unmeasurable benefit here] then implementing [insert proposed policy/rule/system here] can only be a good thing’ Seen this used a lot recently. Triggered this morning by the argument for introducing blue cards to football, similar to VAR arguments for those who say ‘if it improves decision accuracy that can ONLY be a good thing’. Let’s just discard weighing up costs vs benefits in any material change of process in any walk of life. ‘I robbed a charity of £250 out of their petty cash, but anything that helps feed my daughter can only be a good thing’ (may have made this one up) Rant over.
  18. - no tax benefit in terms of being reinvested in public services - no real evidence that it directly impacts people’s health outcomes - no evidence that it changes the culture and attitude towards alcohol in this country To me this is state over reach in terms of policy masquerading as public healthcare, a policy they think sounds good in terms of their care for the Scottish public. They frequently cite the cost of living crisis as an outrage for the public (it is) but would refuse to recognise the impact this policy has on it. Im sure if a large populace told them they could no longer afford a bottle of wine at the weekend then they’d see it as a victory.
  19. Didn’t follow his career in New York but there’s an argument to say he never really recovered from that. Seem to remember he was out for months before making a couple of appearances before leaving. Don’t think he’s really been up to much since being back in Scotland but could just be the passage of time/age.
  20. He supports rangers and that’s your problem with him?
  21. If memory serves Dominic ball received a 2nd yellow for it, not a straight red.
  22. I dont think it’s too bad. As you say it sets the tone for it, then turns something very tedious into a set of semi interesting statistics, and whether you like it or not there’s quite a chunk of sad b*****ds out there who love having the big club debate.
