  1. Should we not instead focus on giving people the opportunity to be less poor rather than making it less inconvenient to be poor?
  2. And it could’ve been such a fine weekend for you chaps too.
  3. Gary Innes opens his show on BBC Radio Scotland with ‘Beautiful Sunday’.
  4. If that’s the best bits all edited into a 3 minute reel designed to hook me in…
  5. Absolute tinpot and rightly so. PM announces a statement to the nation (probably thinks everybody will drop their schedules for him) BBC and ITV have got quiz shows on, Ch 5 cover it just be so their news is already on and after 5 minutes they decide he’s waffling a load of drivel and cut him off. Like it or like it not, Rochdale voted for him. If Rishi doesn’t like ‘extremism’ better plan for doing a fuckton more work to win people over to your more moderate view old son.
  6. Forgive me for not having read the full thread if this has been covered already but this is the nail on the head. It happened after the 2008 crash when human resource (unusually in the corporate world) actually became its descriptor - something to be exploited and exhausted until needing to move on to another. There has been a real breakdown in the historic patriarchal (corporate) employer and the (individual) employee relationship. Turn up, do stuff, get paid as little as possible, f**k off. Middle managers clogging progression shit scared of their own position as ‘efficiencies’ rapidly wheedle their number. If you’re any good at what you do, you now need to do it for yourself. And if you’re no good at what you do, you need to find whatever it is that you are good at and find a market that needs it.
  7. I much preferred this thread when it was mainly a debate about what was/was not a tank.
  8. Because it was cheap, the Bank kept offering and he kept taking. Then interest rates went up, increasing the debt pile and boom.
  9. I must be wrong. I was sure the PE teacher was some baldy ginger guy.
  10. I fancy taking on Marseille. I’ve held a grudge for 30 years…
  11. Years since Ive been out drinking in Dundee but was a real fan of Tickety Boo.
  12. I’ll add a view, albeit from 15 years or so ago so things may have moved on since my experience. You are, hopefully, a couple of grown ups - your childrens’ situation has maybe forced that on you both. Try and sit down and agree the bones of what you both want. For us, I had the kids Mon/Tues, she Thurs/Fri and we alternated Weds and weekends. That was helped (probably significantly) by me moving out only a couple of hundred yards away rather than to a completely new town. Everything, I thought, was agreed and equitable until she decided to get a Solicitor involved who essentially ripped up all that we agreed, started from first principles, took several months and a couple of grand later to end up basically back where we started. Legal advice is essential. But if you can both agree something and keep the attack dogs at bay that I think is hugely valuable. I’ve seen this movie, I’ve been in this movie. It’s horrible for a time but you should all come out of it happier and for the better at some point, just hopefully try your best to make it sooner rather than later. Best of luck.
  13. A couple of years ago the chap in front of me at Morrison’s that evening had 1/2doz tubs of pre cut pineapple and a bottle of rosé wine. I think the lucky young lady (I assume) was in for a fun night.
  14. On my experience on waiting for the return flight home I commented that there was a rather attractive young lady travelling alone. My gf pointed out to me that she was the one whose boyfriend had kicked off on the flight on the way out. When we landed in Ibiza he got huckled off by the Guardia - it seems you are then held in a cell until the local judiciary eventually get round to hearing your case. I believe that can be some time as the Court system gets kinda busy with bams over the summer and you are just added to the back of the queue. Once dealt with (usually a fine) you are then papped back out onto the street and left to find your own way home with one airline less that will take you. Guy lost his holiday, (probably) his girlfriend and his job when he eventually returned home several weeks late. Not that I have ever contemplated being an erse on a plane but I think if it was laid bare in such plain terms even the most determined of nutjob would think twice.
  15. I was having a wee wind up with a good Jambo pal earlier in the week and ended up having to back myself. We’ll see…
  16. 6.30am flight to Ibiza on a Saturday morning where half the passengers seem to have pulled an all nighter. Bedlam. The gf I was with at the time was mortified that they had armed police at Glasgow airport shepherding us ON to the plane.
