Assuming Telfer isn't fit I think we'll play O'Connor in that position. Against Bonnyrigg when we played 3-5-2 he was playing more centrally and dropping deep at times into that position. I don't think it suits his game but there's not many alternatives. He'll not provide the creativity that Frizzell would but will provide the same energy and could be a threat getting up to support Gal.

I wouldn't be messing around with different formations, partly because I generally hate 3 at the back, but mainly because we have a settled defence and going away to the league favourites isn't when I'd be trialing stuff in that area.

This is what this thread has been about for weeks,  lack of cover in a threadbare squad,  we are either having to play players totally out of position or young laddies who will be recovering mentally from their 7 nil mauling in the reserves on Tuesday forced to man up and take on the League favourites in their own backyard.....   hardly ideal,  we haven't been negative all close season just realistic and to be honest 3 players out is nothing,  teams have to cope and compete with a lot worse injury situation than that..

Do you think we are getting relegated with our current squad?

I will rephrase it slightly IMO (which I always give, many on here should give theirs). .  with our current squad and lack of depth in important positions,  GK, CH etc and our lack of quality signings it will be very difficult over the course of a season,  there are no Clyde, Peterhead, kelty triple headers in this league to drag you out a slump,  at the moment we are doing great alright we rode our luck on Saturday against ICT..

As I have said before I never want to darken league 1 door again,   the 'riches' in this league are enough for clubs to be more 'reckless' with their spending in order to stay in it...

8th is still the target, but with the right recruitment getting the desired quality could mean a 5 th or 6 thplace finish and the extra prize money would more than pay for the better quality of player,   as Rhys always says 'High risk, High Reward' that's not true with signings to date is it..

No. As they've already been playing and playing well so merit there place in the team. The fact you'd consider dropping McMaster, a player whose leading by some distance in the August player of the month vote, speaks volumes.

Player of the month fair enough,  I personally voted for Cammy Ballantyne a player who has been outstanding in all 4 games in August, to be fair Watson should have got it also for his performances in 4 games also, McMaster has only played  2 games and 2 sub roles,

It's clear that you're in the Alan Hansen 'you can't win anything with kids' camp so we shall have to agree to disagree.

Yes to an extent you are correct,  this thread is lively these days.,  Devenneys stock Rose dramatically without kicking a ball this season, got his move and wish him well.   . McMaster could well be the same, behind him ??     I will rephrase  it for you can you survive this season in the championship with kids....     I suspect your answer will be a resounding YES,     as you expect i would disagree with your proposed response..

Who has he signed that, in your opinion, is 'clearly not good enough'?

Well nearing un mind we haven't signed that many new players,  I will raise you Elliot Dunlop and the jury has to be out on Hancock, Gallagher, Cassidy ,   Todorov has proven as a experienced championship player he can cut it...

Would you say any of the players mentioned are ' clearly good enough'

Any experience csn be good experience, depending on how they use it and are coached. Lovi had several 1st team Fringe players in their team. A good learning curve for our players or the level they need to aspire to.

Said it already but we are not expected to win every game. We will have hard games, but to flip an old saying, if you're good enough, you're old enough.

ETA: Imagine saying to someone like Aiken or McMaster that you were dropping them because we were playing Dundee Utd because they weren't old enough. What would that do to their confidence and belief in themselves?

Would you not drop Aiken or McMaster for  McCabe and Frizzell or even Telfer if all available.....  I certainly would against a team the calibre of Dundee United at Tannadice.

Sure Dundee fans might correct me but I don't think he's the out and out striker we desperately need, think he's actually very similar to McCann in that he is good coming in off the left and chipping in with goals and assists. Think he'd be a good addition but still need a traditional "number 9" IMO.

Are you guys missing Todorov or was he of a similar ilk to the rest,  not starting much for Airdrie due to injury and Gallagher hitting form, don't think it will be too long before he starts, must be on a decent wage as well..

Certainly would be a pity if all the good work that has been done was to be undone for the lack of a couple of  decent players ,

What is the remit now,  only signing players that are better than what we have and doesn't want to sign anybody just to fill the bench....

or the exact opposite signing players who are clearly not good enough at the moment and are there to fill the bench....

Can anybody confirm our squad and signing remit....    Rhys seems to be saying one thing then doing the other..

From his pre match interview last week McCabe was working towards training this week so long as our physio was happy with that but it may be a week too soon.

Is Kyan Gunn still with us, I know it's a big ask but he may be a better option than Dunlop.

I don't really think Gallagher was a n option any way,  his signing unveiling has done the lad no favours,   if you read his signing article he is clearly signed for the reserves and hoping to progress to first team,  him and the lad Dunlop need to knuckle down in the reserves getting scudded 7 zip will do nothing for their progression in the short term right enough..

It just shows how important it is on a thread bare squad to keep 11 men on the park..   hopefully a couple more signings to come including the McStravick unveiling..

Airdrieonians: Prunty, Hobbs, Cassidy, Gillespie, Fellows, Spalding, Gallagher, Brown, Dunlop, Kavanagh, Watt

    Subs: Thomson, Iserhienrhien, McFarlane, Edwards

Huge difference between the teams. Ended up 7-0. In all honestly it looked like a boys club against a professional team. It should be a good experience for the team playing against such good quality opposition but they have a long way to go.

Gallagher was sent off just after half time but they game was gone by then. Sadly no one from Airdrie really caught the eye. The difference in a year or two at this level seems to make a huge difference so there’s still time for them.

Lawal for Livingston was a standout. Would take him in a second.

I was surprised when it was said we were in the reserve league this season,  it is night and day from  under 19s,   it could be useful with players coming back from injury to get minutes etc,

It will be a learning experience for the young lads,     I think a few of the lads could still play under 19s anyway..

    Jordan Marshall maybe?

    Jordan Marshall maybe?

He was on trial at St Mirren a few weeks back, don't think anything came of it,  although I think we will be looking for back ups now, with the team doing well, so probably another under 20 from somewhere, this isn't what I agree with, but probably best case scenario..

Don't know if anybody has been following it the Airdrie Reserves got beat 7 nil today from livi,  with Gallagher being red carded, would that rule him out of filling the bench on Saturday,  it was a Reserve league fixture not under 19s..

Totally agree with these points. My recollection of GMS was of a talented young guy who used us to bring his fitness up. In my opinion he only really showed up for us in games like the Morton cup game where he could put himself in the shop window. This is not a wholly negative comment on him however as most players would have done the same. And as others have said, the club and team do not need this type of signing going forward as it does not benefit us in the slightest.

No chance of GMS etc coming to us,  they will get a gig somewhere here or the state's,  GMS was rumoured to be on 3k a week,  Mulgrew probably more, let these guys do what they want..   The pond we are fishing in is probably the Euan East type,  for some reason he doesn't seem to have been picked up,

It sounds like the McStravick signing was leaked by Linfield,  and we had to react on Sat evening as well,   still waiting on official confirmation (done deal though) are we expecting any more deals this week....  apart from left back cover we seem pretty ok, at the moment number wise., although the quality drop off from starting 11 to deep into the bench is still pretty worrying..

If you go in the fair play then then Utd, with a heavy heart, would have no choice but to charge you 27 quid.

Oh what the hell , it's only another 2 quid...

In all seriousness I would have thought the championship would have limits to what you can charge for admission,  we moaned when we went from 18 to 20  this season...

What do you guys feel about it, or is that the price for expected success

  13. This game will be a test of McCabes metal,   without IMO our best 3 midfielders,   we will not outscore United at Tannadice in a shoot out,  .

You can still play to win without going 'gung ho'.  As we have all said and now not seemingly a concern,  we are a very young side,  defeats are part and parcel of all levels of football,  we have to avoid a ' sair yin' at all costs,  Football is about confidence , ours is high at the moment..

United will win this league at a canter,  budget wise, player wise, club size etc,

First real test for McCabe this season away from home, against a top side, with your starting midfield missing,

When did away fans start getting dumped behind the goal in the old enclosure, is it not usually part of the fair play stand or whatever it's called these days..

Really difficult to see what Rice's thinking was with that one, especially putting him up against Morrison, a genuine winger with pace. Surely Deveny was the better bet?

I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking when Deveny came on he would replace Debayo not go to right wing back. 😊😒

Is that Euan Devenney you are talking about,  left back or left winger and thats it,,  play him anywhere else and the manager really needs  to take a good look at himself..

  15. Another rollercoaster of a Saturday, this feels like football compared to League 1, as I said before let's never darken that leagues door again..

We didn't play great, as Rhys was saying on his interview,    as I said at the game you can sometimes score too early and the opposition can get the upper hand as the game goes on,  We scored 2 opportunistic goals, especially Galls,  great composed finish,    ICT actually played decent stuff, but final third and pass was woeful,   Frizz had 2 silly bookings, we cannot really moan about the ref,  Carson would have walked for them if we were a little more streetwise second half, 2 or 3 times McGregor turned him and Carson had a pull on the shirt and a hold of the shoulder of Lewis goes down,  Carson is off as well,  that only comes with experience...

We rode our luck as we tired a little late on, but as I said IcT were poor, although we were nothing special,

Big game at Tannadice next week going in without arguably our best midfielders McCabe, Frizzell and Telfer ...

  16. What's happened to ICT ,  I wasn't expecting much today, coming up against a hardened top 4 championship side,  to be honest we didn't play well, and we didn't really have to,  2 quick goals from mistakes, game over really,   ICT pass the ball about well enough, but final ball or decision making in the final third was as poor as I have seen.

40 minutes against 10 men with a midfield 3 of a combined age of 57,  is Dodds on a shoogly peg or can you not afford to bag him,

Also, just catching up on the thread about the club running up 800k losses, are you guys now stuck in a tail spin of managed decline.
