Again and I'm Rhys biggest fan, but is this not a result of the high risk high reward policy? I take it your assuming that ATS passed on McIntosh to Fordyce for the 4th goal, perhaps you may be right and ATS looked particularly perturbed after that goal, but that would make your autopsy as half assed as mine.

The damage was done with the first 2 goals.

    Agree with this though

Your right this is the High risk, High reward we talk about, 2 down late on, push players up if you lose 2 in the break, then that's fine..      a lot of us are making opinions on the footage, I tend to rely on real time and make my mind up of what I actually see at the game,    just had a look at the league stats we have only had 11 shots on target in 5 games,  therein lies the problem,  and cannot continue if we are to win games..

  2. Having watched the footage back and everybody giving a half assed autopsy on the game and the McCabe incident, at the time albeit behind the goal,   I thought Fordyce was going to take control of the situation,  did he shout to Rhys and make a mess of it,    where were the rest of the defence McCabe messed up, Fordyce messed up with no defensive cover..  it did remind me of the home defeat to Edinburgh last season...   let's not let Fordyce off Scot free it was shameful defending from him for the 3rd and 4th goals...

Moving forward IMo we have a lot of impact players starting,  players are probably playing above their level,  this was always the risk resigning players that finished 3rd in the league below.  McGregor, O Connor, McGill ,  are the main players who are struggling,   what can we do,  not an awful lot, we need Telfer fit,  Todorov utilised more and, we still have 3 Loanee slots available, do we really think after all this time, we will get the players we really need....

Realistically he was never catching him although admittedly it's not a good look. I'm sure he'll be cringing looking back at this.

The goals we lost were ridiculous, McMaster never tracked the runner (not for the 1st time this season, cost us the Ross County game as well) for the 1st. Watson was weak as pish for the 2nd, the 3rd is an individual error from the manager and ATS doesn't track the runner for the last.

Poor poor goals stemming from the basics of football, win your tackles and go with the runner!

Did Fordyce cover himself in glory at any of the goals,  watch them back. 1st,  poor  3rd and 4 th well you decide,   McCabe is taking the hit on here,  the assistant mangaer is equally culpable

Not sure this is going to happen as Rhys mentioned "the budget" a couple of weeks ago in his pre match interview.

I heard we still had budget to spend, that's why I said it,  very limited pool now though,  loanees from Premier clubs who want more wages covered than we would possibly want,     This has been done to death on here, over the summer, but Rhys has had a poor window again "only signing players that will be better than we have". Or " only signing players that are of the right attitude and can be developed and improved". Massive difference on the mantra is it not....

In saying that, i think we have a lot more full time players than we think , are Spalding, Fellows, Cassidy, Watt etc full time,  we are running a reserve team as well this season, which will not come cheap, players wages, coaches, travel etc,   The big question is should we have went down that route this season,  should all the finance be forced into the first team for survival at all costs and think about about it for next season when we are a more established championship club,   one thing I will guarantee if things go Pete tong this season, them the reserve team will be scrapped anyway, no chance that expense can be run by a L1 club of our size..

Just seen the goals back, McCabe at the 3rd goal is an embarassment, it's either a lack of effort, which from the manager is shameful. Or he's not fit enough, which isn't much better.

Fordyce looks like an old man running but at least put the effort in to try and get back, or seems to, he ends up out of camera shot pretty quick!

We all love a scapegoat,  McCabe this week. Is it,    he was poor who got pass marks. ????  ,    We all know the centre of defence is painfully slow, we needed an upgrade this season we didn't get it,   backup centre half Cassidy is miles of it,  so it is what it is..

I don't get the McMaster, McCabe debate,  although they cannot play in the same team,    McCabe has far more attributes than McMaster,  we need Telfer back fit for more options,   actually our biggest problem is in the final third,  scoring goals keeps you in the league,  Gall most of this season is playing as a false 9,  relying on advanced wingers with pace,  McGregor and O Connor are ok but not championship level, that's fact....  we are the worst in the league with shots on target ,  we need to change it up,  why sign Todorov and only give him 15 mins and say he is pish as well, he needs a run of games is a proven championship goalscorer...

We are in the start of a tailspin there is no Clyde, Peterhead, kelty triple headers to get you out of a slump,  we have 2 weeks left of the backstop final last minute loan deals,  we have been waiting on quality signings all close season,  surely we need to prop this squad up with something..

I’d start Frizzell, Aiken and one of McCabe/McMaster. We’ve got good depth in midfield and different games will require different combinations but I think we’ll need Aiken’s ball winning ability and one of the holding midfielders in there today.

Having at least one of ATS or Watson back would be a real boost.

For me McCabe is an automatic starter, as a leader, goal threat etc, he brings so much more to the table than McMaster who is a modern day dot to dot footballer,  good player at what he does..    unless of course ATS doesn't make it and Rhys slips into the defence...

As you say McGill continues to toil badly,  he has been caught out technically in this league and our style of play now doesnt really suit his reckless style,  for me magic on the right and McGregor on the left both can switch as required...

I am going for a Desmond in this game..

Looking at previous seasons in this division you need about 40 points to stay up in 8th place (maybe even a few more in a more tightly contested division), so that's 10 points every 9 games. 6 from 4 games isn't bad, but surely we have to be looking at Saturday as a key fixture for picking up some of those points.

It's normally a pretty tight league sometimes from 8th to 4 th can be just a handful of points,   we go into Saturday at Arbroath (21 quid to stand behind the goal)  it's not a must win,  but it is a game where a draw would suit as Arbroath are expected to be " down there" as well.....  looking at squad numbers, I cannot see us signing anybody else,  although it is questionable about the quality of some of our bench warmers...

Hard to say but staying in the Championship was crucial and then ensuing full time would have made more sense or been a more logical step. The board clearly didn't want to give McIntyre the keys to the warchest.

It's not an easy task to come back up. It was a golden generation of NE based players we had in their prime that got us up. That doesn't come around too often.

It was important to keep the momentum, however the board made a couple of critical errors in sacking McIntyre when they did and appointing Hartley which is really easy to say in hindsight but also quite obvious to many at the time. Equally as poor a decision is the offer of a 3.5 year deal to Hartley. If they wanted to give him a second chance, prove himself until the end of the season it's hardly as if he had a list of options after the debacle that was Hartlepool.

Hartley doing a rebuild and on a long term contract is worrying. He's already shown to the Cove fans he's useless on the recruitment front. We'll be here until Hartley moves on and the board appoint someone progressive.

Good to see the Diamonds making a relatively smooth transition to life in tier 2 after too long in L1. Some good results already and looking competitive.

Survival in League 1 was paramount for yourselves last season and really for us to kick on as a club,  if we do fail and go back to League 1 it will be a disaster,  we are holding our own at the moment,  there will be plenty twists and turns to go.,  as an outsider I think you guys will get it right, you never know if you target top 4 it's all about hitting form at the right time,

Good luck for the rest of the season.

The whole club is a mess right now. Saying that all our league games so far this season have been close and we've been competitive but seriously lacking in performances and quality. As we should be I know but it's points that matter and his future employment with us will rely on that changing.

McIntyre was doing the minimum but doing it well. Better recruitment, better style of play and undoubtedly had us on track to stay up. We sack him and give Hartley 3.5 year contract. Just nepotism and everything he's touch has turned to shite so far

Would you say winning League 1 has been a millstone round your neck,   going up a league part time,  playing much better sides etc,  relegation ensued and a rebuild begins which looks like it will take time,  do you think promotion came a season or 2 early for the club.

On this, I might have misinterpreted it but I thought the sarcastic cheering when Hancock eventually played a forward pass was embarrassing. No need for it.

Yes that seemed to be the player,  I like the Hancock seems to have a bit about him,  there was a lot of over passing at that time, but was that due to lack of movement in midfield,  you have to be careful with your passing with no full back cover,   agree. No need for it

Given all the changes and "resting "our best back four it was good to avoid the banana skin, especially after that poor defensive attempt at the opening goal. We also appeared to have much position switching during the game which did not suit McGill and Todorov rarely does what Cal Gal does. Inclined to be slow in build ups and reluctant to just shoot meant a wee bit of butt clenching in the stand.

Great free kick by Rhys and I don't think he's scored in open play but it was delightful. Good to see O'Connor score and overall we are in the draw for maybe a good match.

Thought the Uni guys were steady and quite old fashioned both in jersey numbers and a very assured playing style. Certainly their number 14 got them back into the game but maybe we have them too much time to build attacks.

And the M80 at Auchengills took me back to the old days !

It was a game especially first half, where we just seemed to pass for passing sake,  when we could eventually get Frizz pm the ball  things seemed to open up,  Todorov on another day could have had a hat trick,  Gabby yet again struggled throughout his confidence seems shot,  a place on the bench maybe next week,  quietly impressed with O Connor today....

Quite a lot of frustration amongst the natives in the first half when the univ went in front,  Cassidy and Gallagher I thought struggled against that level of player which is worrying when they are our backups,  Best for Airdrie were Frizz, Todorov (at a push) and Hancock stuck to his job well with very little cover.  Murray Aiken is normally a stick on, but he had one of those days.

A wins a win for awe that,   and yes the M80 the gift that keeps on giving..

I got a text saying “See your ex player get a call up for Ireland” and burst out laughing knowing exactly who it would be. He was world class in that Montrose game. Just seeing his name puts a smile on my face thinking of the chaos he caused that day. Some boy.

I know madness that day , only a week before he played against Peterhead and never tried a leg all game,   thinking back to that game, you were just glad you were there....

Listening to Rhys interview talking about McStravick he was saying he tried to sign him last season,  could he be replacement for Dylan Easton that Rhys was looking for ( early days)

Prunty is definitely not ready conceded 7 against livi reserves so we even know if he’s even a good keeper or is he only there cause who his dad is

Highly rated,  in all seriousness the lad just signed his first Professional deal when he turned 17 a few weeks back,  he should be playing under 19s and learning his trade, it's irrelevant who his father is, and we as fans have to get over that.  IMo  Liam should be know where near the reserve side playing against frustrated SPL players,  that should be David Hutton or if we ever decide we require a no 2 keeper..  a 7 nil defeat against Livi last week will do nobody any good especially a young keeper,  as stated previously players like Todorov, Hancock, etc should have been playing that game, that is something I hope is rectified for next game...

Signed for Leeds as did his brother. They'd both been at Doncaster and made zero first team appearances. Leeds manager at the time one Steve Evans.

He made zero league appearances for Leeds and same for Cardiff too.

He thinks he's a player but he's pish.

Where are you playing McKay,   he wasn't great for us but probably midfield was his most effective,  (that's stretching it a bit) a very awkward looking player

  15. Takes you back going back to Tannadice, although I don't remember the main stand extension the last time,  nice stadium, felt like a big game..

Onto the game and for the first time this season, I never felt that at any point Airdrie thought they could win,  we could have been 2 or 3 down early on , with very little coming back at that stage,   we passed it about nicely with United giving us our own half more or less  before initiating contact,  we missed McCabe and Frizzell today more for a directness and a change of pace...   Best for Airdrie were Ballantyne, Fordyce,Aiken and McStravick nothing really up front ,  McGill struggling on this league, Gall battles away and is still our biggest goal threat,   we need to get Todorov somehow in that side for a different option..

United to be fair were pretty comfortable and didn't have to do a great deal to get the 3 points,   in saying that I expect them to take this title at a canter....

A crowd of just over 8k never looked like it to me,  with 477 making the sunny journey from NL.

The addition of McStravick definitely seems to give us plenty of options in midfield when everyone is fit. Three starting places between McCabe, McMaster, Frizzell, McStravick, Telfer, Aiken is good cover, and that’s obviously not including Gavin Gallagher or Dunlop who will probably feature more sporadically. Defensive cover is reasonably fine too. You’d expect the defenders to play the full 90 without much issue and wouldn’t want to rotate that area as much, and between the 5 we have plus the option of McCabe dropping to centre back I don’t expect many issues in that area. I think if we’re adding another player on a free or before the loan window closes it should be at the other end. Gallagher will start most games and that’s fine, with Todorov an option off the bench. McGill will have games like today where he doesn’t do that much, but we know he can be very good when he gets going. Both McGregor and O’Connor are still very raw with their pace being their main attribute. I think both are better suited to coming off the bench to make an impact but at the moment we’re quite reliant on starting at least one of them. I’d like to see us try to bring in someone who can play that wide forward role.

And before anyone says anything, yes I’m well aware that McGregor played a massive part in both goals against Inverness last week and has had a few decent games so far this season, but he’s still very obviously a downgrade on Smith.

Good points,   McStravick does look good, but mostly in recycled possession, would like to see him in an attacking formation, personally I would play the magic boy in McGills position,  McGill is not at the races, he was technically poor a league below and his deficiencies are being showed up in this league,  to me Todorov offers so much more than a ten minute cameo, would like to see him start,  goals or lack of them could be an issue, basically due to better opposition and our change of style...

We have another reserve game coming up,  if I was Dunlop, Todorov, McGill I would be knocking on Rhys door to get some more minutes into the legs and try and get some confidence,  sending the under 19s out against experienced sides , is just cannon fodder , and shows no purpose, hopefully Rhys has learned from that..
