For me, signing or not signing someone like Wotherspoon will purely cone down to budget. And I reckon he is way out of ours. Last season there was 2 leagues between us, so we will have one of the lowest budgets in the league and he's stepping down from a Premier league wage. Way to big a gap to bridge IMO.

I think we will look at investing our money into players on an upward trend as well, so we have the potential to cash in on them should the opportunity present itself further down the line.

Agree to an extent, the club have to be braver though,  you will get next to no reward for young players or any players for that matter when they are only on one year deals,  bigger teams like Raith will constantly hoover up our talent and get them signed up on 2 or 3 year deals.

Cheers mate. That would be minimum, might even be a few more for old times sakes 🤣

I know better off coming along, nice warm summer's day 🥴next game is in January,  you never know you guys could go bust and we could go straight down, could we roll Kenny Black and Paul Lovering out for this one,  hopefully some not so good natured banter for old times sake and all that..

A game that used to be one to look forward to. Hasn't been played too often, over recent seasons.

Last met at this level when Thistle won the old, first division.

Thistle are still a work in progress, imo. We have signed some established and some promising players with a few wildcards...

Looking forward to a return to Airdrie and hopefully three points, as in the Christie Elliott game

    Airdrieonians 1 Thistle 2

How many of you luvvies, are planning on making the trip, 1k

Remember the steak pies are a fiver (4 for home fans)  hope we don't run out...

Seriously though,  Partick who should be on the Premier must still be gutting to miss out like that, plus the financial problems,   you would never know it though with all your signings being on paper very good and not cheap, Robinson, Alston, Adeloys and McInroy so far,  Doolan doesn't muck about with excuses for signing players, he just does it....  Would think Thistle could be a couple of goal favourites for this one and you couldn't really argue,  things can change as the week goes on, we are 2 strikers down injured, hopefully Rhys can a get another signing over the line,

  4. Good game, big game atmosphere after years in the seaside league,  a venue that the under 35s would probably call a shithole, for someone more mature age wise only perhaps,  I always think it is one of the best venues going , catches the old and the new pretty well,  remember standing in the corner of the shed as a young in watching Stevie McCormick put the pars to the sword,  enough reminiscing...

Airdrie deserved a point, pars always give us trouble with there style of play, due to loading the box etc,   without going over old ground we are 3 players short of competing, will we get them though....

Tennis and golf are fine for a few weeks, but you canny beat a miserable sat night after being pumped at the football..

If they sort out their leaky defence, they’ll be a threat to anyone in the league this season. Do not underestimate them, although it is hard to give praise to a team filled with utter scum for supporters.

Don't worry we have a few injuries to key players so we have managed to get Kenny Black and Paul Jack back for a game, let's hope they have had enough sleep,  I hear they were up all night sharpening their boots sorry that should be polishing..   interesting day beckons.....

Haha apologies if hate spoilers, but good looking signing on paper fits the bill of a position we really needed, little bit of experience in the championship last year as well helps, wouldn’t be surprised to see him straight into the starting 11 tomorrow.
Hopefully another sighting of the pen today!

Well done to Rhys and the club,  as stated we badly needed strengthened in this area,   heard the name before qué the calls of he's shite etc from opposing teams fans..

Any more ITK info,  you called this one

Slightly different position to us as they know their keeper will be out long term. We’re just looking for one match.

To be fair everything is very hand to mouth looking at the whole set up from a relative distance,   is Hutton that bad an option for one game,   is he better than a 18 year old youth keeper from a Premier League club or even our own club....

This situation could and should have been avoided a day before a game and we are scratching our chin for options....  We need to wisen up here and quickly....

  8. Slightly different slant here, with recruitment of quality players or any players in fact a major issue this close season,   one of our most talented players Justin Devenney is in cold storage for his apparent move to Crystal Palace which is all happening very slowly,  worth our squad issues and massive games coming up do we play Justin as he is an Airdrie player and picking up a wage etc, I am not aware of Any Transfer request being put in, so is available for selection..

Surely helping to get points early in the season pars, Thistle, ICT and the big cup tie against Ross county (potential big money if we win),  would that not be more beneficial to the club than 40k ( my estimate of his value with 10 months left on his deal, and can sign for free in January for anybody,   remember Bowie of Raith signed for Fulham for 150k with 2  and a half years left on his deal a couple of years back). If Justin plays well he will get his move, doing nothing helps nobody...

    Thoughts..

    Yeah that's effectively a month's salary they've given up.

There's also the risk they get injured during pre-season and get nothing. It's not totally the same as he was a trialist trying to earn a contract, but Mikey Doyle did his knee in a pre-season game with Morton. Could happen to anyone.

The club and Rhys particularly will be trying their utmost to get players in,,  at the end of the  day, all teams have a sliding scale of targets and relevant abilities and costs etc,  that's no different now if Rhys is working the same system, are we putting all our eggs in one basket signing wise, it certainly doesn't look smooth,  Euan East has been whoring himself about a number of clubs, a player we are allegedly interested in,  he has played a couple of friendlies for Partick and was binned, he still appears to be available, is he that good to get clubs paying over the odds for,

Panic stations or not Rhys will be forced into signing players that don't fit his or the clubs remit......  Question did Lachie Byrd or Joe Dixon fit the strict signing policy.....  You decide on that one....

Let's not be naive here,  as of 3pm on Saturday a new season starts and the euphoria of the penalty shoot out will be in the past,   let's go into this new challenge with a ' loaded gun'

  10. As you know Airdrie are having a gap year in the championship this season,  messrs McCabe and Fordyce played at this level with yourselves,  it is a massive step up from League 1 , how were they for yourselves or were they found out at that level..

Good luck this season, League 1 gets slagged off and gets little media coverage unless your Falkirk,  but it's not a bad league, helluva difficult to get out of though..

Hutts isn’t playing on Saturday we have an Emegency loan coming in plus we are still looking at a another backuo keeper

Sorry wasn't aware that a keeper was coming in on loan,   how many players do you think we need to be competitive  in this league, I know a ball hasn't been kicked etc,   but us old hats know this is a very tough league...

  12. So basically since the dramatic shoot out to finally get promotion to the championship,  we have signed one player Todorov....    O Connor and Aiken were already loaned no matter what league we were in...

As stated above squad depth and basically the 5 sub rule is going to kill us,  we played Inverness off the park for 45 mins then Dodds played all 5 subs early and turned the game admittedly we were tiring (due to no bench options). Whether Dunfermline or Morton have thin  squads also is nothing to admire or aspire to,   we were 3 players short not including Devenney (what's happening there) and there is no real traction signing wise due to the fact a lot of players have went to Ireland or old firm 21s not getting loan players the same (is this spiteful due to the vote) this close season and everyone is falling over themselves in a very shallow talent pool, no doubt you end up paying over the odds for players you need but don't really want..

Remember the Falkirk game when DJ played we were anticipating a talented understudy to Rae,  Start of the next season and nothing, with Hutts at this time gloving up for the Dunfermline game..

Surely the club or Rhys are not asleep at the wheel..

I know we can still sign contracted players till end of August and loanees till end of September,  that's not really the point though is it....

Looking forward to our Manager, Assistant manager,  First team coach and Goalkeeper coach all starting on Saturday, surely this must be some sort of record..

Why is the home top badge so small? It seems a bit disrespectful by the manufacturer.

All-red sleeve looks cheap. Why can't they just continue the hoop pattern, like is standard on... perhaps any other teams that have hooped jerseys?

    The away strip is awful.

    Who is the manufacturer

If McCabe has some signing targets and we’re close to getting them then NOW is the time to make the move.  Absolutely thrilled with us qualifying but other than the potential money boost it will give us, I really couldn’t care about the cup.  We’ve busted balls to get to this level and we need to consolidate our position in the Championship.  Don’t want the feel good factor to go with Dunfermline giving us a doing on flag day.  Don’t want to rush in to unnecessary signings but if we can get 2/3 players we actually want then we need to do business this week. And I’d be gutted if McInroy went to Thistle.   Nightmare scenario

First of all , well done to the players on getting 4 wins on the spin and topping the group,  all games were tight and could have went either way,   What I am surprised with is the team Rhys played today,  this was a classic game for giving Fellows a run at left back giving ATS a rest who has been great, but we all know he cannot last the season without a couple of spells out,  same with Dunlop see what the lad has got and not forgetting Hutts should have played in goal with Rae's suspension next week..   even with those changes we should have got a result... We have a few injuries just now don't think anything particularly long term, but 2 or 3 games out is a lot when you don't have adequate tried and tested replacements,   The league is the priority where every point must be fought for..

Massive week ahead for the club..

Our subs bench the day has the look of last season ,next week would be a big problem unless we strengthen ,

According to Rhys in the Dundee preview,  there is no under 18s this year, we will be entering the Reserve League instead which is a massive difference.. and hopes the young laddies can progress on a much more competitive environment...  Anybody got anymore info on this..

Or you could just appoint a manager that is able to do the job himself? Having a DOF means you have to get two appointments right (getting one right is hard enough), it costs more and I’m not entirely sure what a DOF at this level would do that a competent manager couldn’t do himself hence why you don’t see it very often at this level.

At big clubs when you are dealing with multi million pound contracts, extensive negotiations and a world wide scouting network it’s useful. When you are signing part-timers from the exit trials and already have a manager who can deal with it himself it’s utterly pointless.

It sounds to me a bit of look what McCabe did for Airdrie a brave appointment, kelty as well with Tidser,   we can do the same and reap the rewards,  McCabe has done better than expected, but the main difference was he inherited a team that was coming to the boil form wise,  Duffy and McLean are at an entirely different level with the team and club in total freefall...

I have seen the lad Malcolm a couple of times at Rossvale, he was big and gangly, a young Robert Jones (not cheering you up any here) type player,   wouldn't think he would cut the league up just yet, could be decent in a couple of seasons..
