To be frank we were poor and struggling until Turner and Paton came in, then it came to life, horrendous amount of players not contributing, we have tried to keep the better players Kerr, McCann, McKay. Carrick, but they see there futures elsewhere, so it is turning into quite a bi g rebuild, Still need 10 players just to compete, there is quality about, maybe not for the wages we are paying though..... to be fair to East Fife the squad on paper looks decent and settled, although I have said that the last couple of seasons as well..

Don't panic i hear Dean Ritchie is about to be unveiled with the scarf above his head in the coming days.... I have been quite positive about signings so far. Jordan Allan, sorry not for me, but can he hit 6 goals, if so he will be as effective as Ally Roy..... So the bar isn't that high...... Falkirk will run away with this league, anybody up for the playoffs again

In season 19/20 when McKay first joined he played as a central midfield, he does look awkward in that position but was pretty effective and scored a number of goals, this past season it never clicked on midfield at all, after lockdown we played 3 at the back and it suited him and played well in the run in, He got a bad arm break a fortnight ago , he might be lucky to be available for the start of the season...

I wouldn't panic just yet, your side looks decent although I have said that the last 2 close seasons too, For the record Airdrie currently have 6 players and one which will never see a jersey...

The mood music coming from the club is positive with Murray and new captain Fordyce stating wanting to go one better this season.... This doesnt appear to resonate with resigning of the current t squad, is it down to wages , ambition ( see first paragraph) or just wanting a new challenge.... Admittedly we finished a close second to Thistle, were we the second best team in the league technically yes.. As in modern society Murray is going to be judged by his target of winning the title, I hope we don't use that as a rod to hit him with... On recruitment we have a fair!y small pond to fish in, primarily players in our own league, teams will pick off each other trying g to weaken them, we have done it already with Watson of East Fife and now a proposed trio of players from Dumbarton, this recruitment is unlikely to end with a flag day at the end of the season though. You see a lot of posts wanting championship players to improve us, why would they drop down to a barren wasteland of League 1... I would think that any league 1 club with the exception of Falkirk and Alloa would be able to compete with the Q OS and Morton's of this world for players.. it was only barely 4months ago that all championship clubs were given 500 k by Scot Gov for loss of earnings and to carry out covid testing.. League 1clubs were given 150k , that is a massive difference unless of course clubs spunked 350 k on testing... It is still far too early to call, but competitive games start in 5 weeks, a helluva lot of work to do.

The way our recruitment t appears to be heading this summer, signing Rumsby will b e a distinct possibility, we are doing the old fashioned sign players from your rivals to weaken them, so far Craig Watson from East Fife and now linked with Dumbarton deadly duo of Adam Frizzell and Rico Quitongo. . In case you didn't realise our target is to go one better and win the league...... Not with that dross I hear you say

Released & Out of Contract Players.
Passionate replied to ebobsboy's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
I believe so, Carrick is a decent player but on the slide, Stirling are paying good money for Part Time players, -
Craig Thomson at 26, you would think he should be hitting his prime, in truth he should be a much better player than he is, hasn't kicked on since we signed him, going forward he is fast, not elusive though, straight line runner head down, inconsistent at best crosse r of the ball, Defensive side of his game, he lets himself down, doesn't really get it, positioning , when to close down etc.... he is a good impact player , mainly due to his raw pace and his shooting has improved, an archetype of the Premiership youth system... good luck to him we have offered contracts to worse.
