The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread
Norrie82 replied to djchapsticks's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I think whilst we have reason for optimism the defence worries me. I don’t think Gogic is best at centre half , Taylor seems a good footballer but he’s going to need to improve his marking ten fold. The lad Bolton I’ve heard might be injured and we know Charles is decent but is he fit. Personally I’ll say I’d have felt much happier going to Easter road with Joe and Dec in our squad. I’ll get the usual ah Joe was a bombsxare and Dec was done. I’d disagree with both. Both organised and Joe led by example. Throw in the loss of the leagues top goalie last year and it will be a hard game for sure. Let’s hope the team can put on a performance and I’m hoping maybe one or two arrive to help before too long -

Absolutely he might be a good goalie. He will need a run of games tho and perhaps he’s being readied for this possibility -

I think people are perhaps upset at the way Carson appears to have left us. Taking all that away I’d say he was the best GK out of the previous 3. I’m never really keen on loaning someone else’s goalie possibly after the David Cornell episode. I don’t know enough about Hemming tho and he could be a great signing. -

Big loss - sure poor if the rumours are true but the fact remains he was a points winner and anyone who thinks we are better defensively this season I fear may be wrong. Don’t underestimate the experience that Joe, Dec and Trevor bring to a team. I’m not doom and gloom but I’d say we are definitely weaker at this point -

I get that but let’s remember how good he was for us and the points he undoubtedly won is last season. It’s not easy to replace this and we certainly are weaker in this area now -

Fair chance we won’t even know the striker - it’ll be a loan deal of a guy who’s maybe got potential or has been a good player but might have had an injury. Did the Fletcher offer never happen or was it knocked back -

Id be tempted to offer Strain the 55 k to sign a new deal. If he did then we wouldn’t lose the deal would be that if an offer comes in that hits a certain point we’d allow him to go. He wins short term but knows that he will likely get a move shortly if form keeps up. Worth a go even tho it’ll never happen will it -

The team looks weaker and this might be wrong but it is the feeling I have at present . -

Watching the match tonight and I have think saints will be able to recover the league cup section and win it . Cowdenbeath caused a good amount of problems to Arbroath and whilst we will need to be a lot better I feel we will come through this -

I think it’s obvious that Nahmani has potential to do well but I’d like a bit of experience up there with him and looking at the other forwards we have excluding Ayunga I don’t see much nor crucially do I see any goals -

I mean surely this team should still qualify. Sad that we are now actually worried about a part time team at home -

100 percent - the manager acknowledged this after Arbroath last year -

Greive and a number of players who have been on the fringes aren’t good enough. If we can’t improve this squad with proven quality I’d be more than a little worried. Yes it’s early but footballers tend to be able to show some skill and potential . We just appear a little all over the shop at the minute Ps we need goals and we look like a side that’ll score v few at present -

Joe was better than most of the other defenders at the club. He has gone but has he been replaced with someone better or even simelar? The main issue tho is our lack of goals which is worrying given we can’t score at Morton nor Montrose. The way I see it is that much of the squad is not playing well enough yet but I fear that for some they aren’t up to the grade. Hopefully the manager might try to move some in and create space for someone who is good enough -

No mate I’m just amazed that he wasn’t valued . He’s been a good player for us scoring some goals as well. Mental that he was allowed to walk -

Slower than Gallagher? Joe wasn’t perfect but he’s a threat in the opposition half as well as a decent defender. We’re weaker without him -

clear to me some of the players aren’t good enough. Big Joe was a strange one for me - possibly our best defender but allowed to go. Not seeing much from others either and up front it looks absolutely brutal. Toysi at least looked like giving it a go for the shot time he was on -

Doesn't matter what format you play it’s a competition we need to take seriously given we have no hope other than the cup. Judging by this side tho there’s loads of them not good enough to be in the team. Seriously underwhelmed with the team the past two weeks - no excuses now we’re full time and should be as the manager said beating these teams -

Totally agree and whilst Taylor is a decent player his positional play is poor at times and requires serious improvement. As for the goalie an absolutely crucial position and for me we need to make sure this is an area we cover well. -

It was picked by the fans but it was one of three poor options
