  1. I liked Hetherington as a player and he could cover at left back if required so disappointed he has decided to sign for Alloa, also surprised as i thought players wanted to play at the highest level?
  2. Spot on this. A very good versatile player who got peed off when DC put LD into midfield and kept JC on the bench (sure it was against Queens Park) so no wonder he was fuming. Anyway that was a mistake when the club let him go, good luck to James and Danny at Spartans.
  3. Absolute NO feelings for them up the road......
  4. Gordon Marshall, Craig Hinchcliffe and Derek Gaston have ALL been fantastic goalkeepers over the years. Marshall played for us (and kept us up) in the TOP league in Scotland i.e. today's SPL, plus played for some top clubs like Newcastle United, Hearts and Hibs etc so he was a top class goalkeeper. Hinchy like Gats played for us (and kept us up) in the Championship so the 2nd top league in Scotland, would probably say Hinchy was a better reaction save type of keeper but Gats was the more solid keeper. A very hard decision to make but all 3 GREAT Red Lichtie goalkeepers.
  5. Sorry to see Hilly away and hopefully Hetherington re-signs as i like him as a player. Q- Hayshead2 to give the thumbs down (saddo) lol 36-0
  6. I would have liked Banks to stay a good solid defender who liked to get stuck in, agree as others have said he is no J.T. but not many like him about nowadays. In regards El Mhanni he has massive talent and when he first signed it looked like we had a superstar but unfortunately like a lot of players like him he was inconsistent and seemed to get knocked off the ball easily.
  7. Happy with the signing of McIntosh, experienced player at all levels in Scotland scored a few goals and has pace. Sure he also has decent a goalscoring record against us as well for his other clubs, he scored a good goal for Cove Rangers against us in the 1-1 draw up there this season. Now if we can get in a Dowds or O'Hara/Todarov and keep Shanks then that seems a decent strikers option.
  8. LOL absolute bollocks, Peterhead offered £20k which was accepted by Elgin City so i would guess AFC/Forfar/Scumtrose also offered £20k and for whatever reason he wants to play in a lower league with a crap stadium and small crowds. I would have wanted him back at Gayfield in a minute, as someone already poster Hester/McAllister what a strikeforce that is compared to ours so the AFC Board and Management have to beat that.
  9. Slater is excellent, great quality suits at decent prices......
  10. Sir Bobby Lin. Well what more can you say about him, a top top fitba player and also a top bloke and absolutely no doubt a future Red Lichtie "Hall of Famer". He would be in my Red Lichtie all time XI and that is from AFC teams that have played since the late 1960's so i cannot compliment him more than that. On top of that he has been brilliant for the whole town and the vast majority of children and woman in our town know who Bobby Linn is. There is no doubt AFC have to organise a proper send off for Bobby so that the fans can properly show their appreciation but also not to interfere with another of our legends (Ricky Little's) Testimonial year so i would suggest the club have another fun day in the summer like they did a few years ago but also invite Bobby down to it to meet the fans and get photos taken etc and even have a Q&A (either in the stand or Caird Suite) something casual so that everybody can attend to say cheerio to a true Red Lichtie hero. Lastly like a couple of other posters (and i cannae get the vision out my mind) but when i seen the subs board going up to take Bobby off for Deri Corfe that probably made Bobby's mind up that this was his final season with us and who can blame him, without doubt a big mistake made by DC and his performance in the last game of the season proved Bobby would still be a great squad player for us (60-70 mins each game) and if he does move to Lochee Utd i will put a bet on now he will score 30-40 goals next season at that level = easy. Thanks for the memories Bobby and there were many, Smokies & Wine 36-0.
  11. Thank you for the kind words, on the train on the way back to Arbroath that day we all commented (although gutted we got beaten) we said a day out to PTFC was a great day and your Social Club is a great set up, what was also funny was i met a Thistle fan in there (George) who actually plays Walking Fitba back in Arbroath with me. All the best and if you play like last night against Ayr Utd you will have a great chance to get through. Smokies & Wine 36-0.
  12. What a class act Kris Doolan is and i liked his attitude to playing football "we will always be on the front foot and will never defend a lead". Liked him as a player at the Red Lichties (albeit sadly at the end of his career) and met him a few times and he is a top bloke. Please sell Dowds to us.
  13. First of all just want to send condolences to Kris Doolan and his family after his sad news in regards his Dad. Well done on your result over Queens Park tonight and all the best against Ayr United, always liked Partick Thistle fans since following the Red Lichties home and away since the 1970's and have had a drink and a banter with a few of them over the years. Had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Kris Doolan in your social club 2 weeks ago after you beat us at Firhill in fact if any of your was there it was me who took the mic off Gerry Britton and praised Kris for his one season at Gayfield he was a class person on and off the park, he made a point to come over to me after his interview to thank me = class. Anyway all the best from a Red Lichtie fan. Smokies & Wine 36-0.
  14. READ the post correctly - Now i am not trying to say Kane Hester is as good as Ian Rush i am saying they are a similar type of forward but a good few levels apart All i am saying is they are both out and out strikers and penalty box goalscorers BUT OBVIOUSLY MANY LEVELS apart standard wise. All about opinions and i would have Hester back on board at Gayfield BUT not as my no 1 striker i would take O'Hara or Dowds before him but i think he would be great as part of our squad.
  15. Stop being a total walloper you keyboard warrior as everybody is entitled to an opinion. If you want to discuss further please get in touch.
  16. OK here is my take on Kane Hester. Would i want to sign him for the Red Lichties and my answer is YES as imo he is a natural goalscorer and i am convinced if he gets the service he would score goals for us. This might sound nuts but Ian Rush was not a great player but he was a natural goalscorer who had good players around him Aldridge was the same, our last "natural" goalscorer was probably "Shagger" McManus whereas Doris and Simon Murray were more powerhouse bustling strikers and probably our last all round great player/penalty box goalscorer was "Dibble" McGlashan who was a class act and Wighton is also a class act. Now i am not trying to say Kane Hester is as good as Ian Rush i am saying they are a similar type of forward but a good few levels apart and if we signed a player like O'Hara or Austin to play next to Hester i would be happy with that with Shanks getting more game time as i reckon he will be a good player for us. Hester has had 5 years away from us and will have toughened up and even the Ayr Utd fans said he ripped them apart at Somerset Park in the Scottish Cup and i think he is worth a chance and i would sign him for us (as well as getting a big experienced striker playing next to him). There always seems a lot of AFC fans who do not want ex-players to return but imo if you are going to return a better players then i see no reason on why not to sign you.
  17. Just like to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Championship League Title. I have a few Dees fans as mates. Smokies & Wine, 36-0. Thank you.
  18. I would take any of the 2 (or both of them) strikers that Dunfermline have let go Kevin O'Hara and Nikolay Todorov, both those strikers (especially O'Hara) has scored goals against us over the seasons and i read somewhere that O'Hara is still only 24!! Both strong and fast strikers. Anybody that says Wighton is a poor striker knows f'all about football, his first stint with us he was lethal unfortunatly his 2nd stint with us for whatever reason he was not as good but given the right service he will score goals at any level as his 20 goals for the Pars last season proves.
  19. I must admit i am absolute crapping myself for Friday nights game, hopefully the Red Lichtie players are not in the same frame of mind as me. We MUST set up for the win and not go for a draw and start with Bobby. The AFC fans hopefully generate a good atmosphere from the word go and this helps the AFC players to get the result we need. Hopefully we confirm that we are staying in the Championship on Friday night and next season DC does not make the same mistake and bringing in unknown south of England players and goes for tried and trusted Scottish players that knows this league and weather conditions etc like Dow, Hetherington etc who have been good additions to the squad. There is no doubt in my mind that at the start of the season losing Craigen/JT/Low/Donnely (never thought i would ever say this) made our squad weaker with the players that DC brought in and was a massive mistake (i knew they left for various reasons) and that is a big part of the reason we are where we are. Q Hayshead2 to give a negative thumbs down lol. C'Mon the Red Lichties one more game please to get us over the line, 36-0.
  20. Whatever happens and whatever league we are in i would still give DC/Pink another season in charge as what they have done for this club they deserve a bit of loyalty, yes this season has been terrible but if we finish 3rd bottom and stay up then that has been our object to aim for each season we have been in the Championship albeit our style of play this season has been poor.
  21. Hopefully DC has learned his lesson from the Cove game and does not set his team up "not to lose" as that is a dangerous game to play as we found up. Lets get Hilson support up front and that is why i would start Bobby Linn. I agree Bobby looked a bit of a dejected figure at Firhill on Saturday but i would put that down as he sees some loan players getting game time before him who to put it lightly put in "lackluster" effort never mind performances. Get Bobby fired up for this game and start him with words in his ear "Bobby we need a performance from you, we need you to win this game for us", he has done it time and time again for us over the years (including this season up at Fraserburgh etc). If this is going to be his last home game at Gayfield for the Red Lichties (and i hope it is not and i would be given him another 1 year contract) then he at least deserves a start to prove his worth. If Dow is fit i would be starting him as well. C'Mon the Red Lichties, 36-0.
  22. All the best to my Peh Munching Dundee FC supporting Hood Pals against Cove Rangers on Friday night, lets get the result for your team and your Red Lichtie loving neighbours. From your ex Robb Brothers/Bon Accord lemonade delivery boy......36-0. Thank you.
  23. Why would Bobby be retiring? IMO the issue here is DC has not played Bobby enough and next season (I know he would be another year older but Bobby is a fit lad) i would be giving Bobby another yea r deal as what a player to have in your squad. Another 2 players i would like to see us keep are El Mhanni (another player not used enough by DC) and Banks. A Dowds/Big Hamilton type striker is a "must" and a Nicky Low type midfielder as well. Anyway that is for next season lets get a result to stay in this league come the end of a "not great" season. IMO normally staying up is a major achievement but because of last season's style/excitement/position it has probably made this season worse than it actually was.
  24. 100% agree with this, the 1st game up at Cove he ripped us apart and on Saturday at Gayfield he caused us problems. I would also go for Meggison as well. There is no point in saying lower league strikers cannot make it like Hester, the lad at Stirling and Annan or even the young lad at Brechin City as my view is "IF" you get the service in the box a "natural" goalscorer with always score goals regardless how good you are as an actual player. Just look at Dundee FC they have signed a young 21 year old striker from the bottom club Albion Rovers who has scored 23 goals this season for next season, if it does not work i am sure plenty of clubs will buy him off of Dundee FC so it is a "win-win" situation and worth a punt. I like the look of Shanks but i would not have put him out to a struggling club like Peterhead i would have put him out to a team nearer the top of a league that was scoring goals (even in the 2nd Division). The problem we have had we only played 1 forward up front this season, someone like Hilson or McKenna up front with Adarkwa would have worked imo.
  25. I have kept away from reading the newspapers until today and just noticed that Adarkwa was not even on the bench so i take it is still injured. Another thing i must mention was the constant time-wasting by Cove Rangers which i found strange as they needed to win but it worked out in the end for them and the antics by their Goalie Fox was embarrassing rolling about in the back of the net then after the Referee speaks to him gets up and takes the free kick no problem. Felt sorry for the hard working Hilson playing up front on his own, this was a day we should have went 2 up top as well as wide players putting crosses in.
