I don't get people sticking up for Smith and giving it the whole 'width of a post away' malarkey. If for better tactics throughout the campaign then we wouldn't have had to be a width of a post away as we would have won the title prior to that game. Ayr handed us chance after chance to stroll that league. Shoehorning players to fit a 4-4-2 is embarrassing and it's easy for us in the stand to criticise because it's embarrassing and old fashioned. Our away form is utterly atrocious and called for a change in tactic last year but we were subjected to a 4-4-2 week in, week out. You only have to look at the games where we conceded in the last minute to drop points where every other manager would have went so defensive and taken off attacking players to see out a game but he didn't do anything at all and kept a 4-4-2 even though we were 5 minutes from a win. The embarrassment of dropping points all season when ahead of the pack is enough to see him go, then the worst performances you'll ever see in the playoffs further added to the case for him to be binned, then his recruitments in the window have further added and now we have the results against cowden and cove to further add to it. I genuinely do not understand how anyone can say we have no right to criticise Smith or anyone that thinks Smith should have half a season or even a quarter for that matter. He is out of touch with the game and has no tactical knowledge in the slightest but has now blown our budget on a make shift, injury prone squad with no width. Looks like we are in for a season of Yogi Hughes tactics of playing 4 central midfielders in the middle of the park.. Yass
